Do I have to do party bags for 10 year olds?

Just that really. Taking 8 kids to Go Ape for son's 10th birthday. Do I have to do party bags or have they grown out of those now?

YABU - do the bags, tightwad.
YANBU - it's ok, you've done your party bag time, you can stop now.

I made sweet cones!

Flippinec · 11/04/2025 11:15

Sweet cones or Roblox vouchers are the done thing here

I made sweet cones!

This! Perfect idea as they get something to take home but you’re not stressing about what to put in it

clary · 11/04/2025 11:16

Easter egg if it’s this week or next. Sorted.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 11/04/2025 11:17

Yes, they'll be disappointed.

PassMeTheCookies · 11/04/2025 11:20

Sweet cones here, too. Aldi had a 1kg bag of Bebeto gummy mix for £4 last week. I made some Easter sweet cones for our Easter hunt. I made 8 cones with 125g in and it worked perfectly. The bags cost me £2 off Amazon. Really cheap and easy to make. I didn’t faff around with different layers of sweets, because gummy mix is usually a winner, whereas my DS doesn’t eat them with marshmallows/popcorn etc in.

Bag of haribo tangfastics each and a piece of cake and theyll be fine

givemushypeasachance · 11/04/2025 11:29

I think sending them away with "something" would be appreciated to borderline expected, but not a babyish party bag with cake and stickers in. Has your 10yo not been to a party recently and come back with anything to benchmark? Some sort of small fidget toy and a packet of sweets might be good.

TooFancyNancy · 11/04/2025 11:30

I also came to say a bag of sweets is perfect!

Itsjustnotthevibe · 11/04/2025 11:32

I do sweet cones or a bag of haribo for that age group.

arcticpandas · 11/04/2025 11:37

I think it depends on where you have your party. My DS 11 had his in a laser quest where they had cake, crisps, sweets etc. Didn't do party bags. If I would have had a party at home in the garden I would have made sweet bags but without the toys (those are for younger kids).

Lilacmonster · 11/04/2025 11:37

Yes probably grown out of party bags with them little toys in and what not by now, agree with the sweet cones idea or whoever mentioned Easter eggs is a great idea. You can get the small ones for £1-1.50 and they would be a cheap idea

Jessica5678 · 11/04/2025 11:38

I think it depends on your particular area and social circle - my ten year old would have been mortified if I’d handed out anything resembling a “party bag”, they aren’t the done thing by that age amongst their friends or anyone I know. Neither of my children has ever received a sweet cone either, despite their popularity on here!

I’d be guided by what your son’s received at recent parties.

Roblox vouchers for all the guests? Wow. Having spent 22£ per child (: 220£ for 10 kids) I couldn't possibly afford giving out Roblox vouchers as well. My child would be very happy receiving one though. 😁

ilovesooty · 11/04/2025 11:44

They've been to a paid for party and presumably there'll be cake to take home. I don't see why a ten year old would expect anything on top of that.

WutheringTights · 11/04/2025 11:58

Sweets and a fidget toy are pretty standard for 10 year olds round here. Sometimes we do a book instead of the fidget.

MrsPeterHarris · 11/04/2025 11:59

At that age, I did a box of Maltesers each or a big bag of Haribo & a piece of birthday cake to go.

Walkerzoo · 13/04/2025 13:37

Also organising a party and have exactly same dilemma. Following with interest

FusionChefGeoff · 13/04/2025 13:40

Something but not a full bag - do go ape do any merch??

RoundSquareWithTriangles · 13/04/2025 16:03

I gave out packets of glow sticks.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 13/04/2025 16:18

The most successful one I ever did was a huge bar of chocolate each.

InterestedDad37 · 13/04/2025 16:21

Envelope each with a guide to why too many sweets aren't good for you 😀

EmeraldShamrock000 · 13/04/2025 16:35

The most recent 10y party we attended, gave a pack of match attack cards with a bag of sharing sweets.

Hankunamatata · 13/04/2025 16:36

Easter eggs?

tonyhawks23 · 13/04/2025 16:39

Roblox vouchers is wild!surely no one does that!that's the gift for the birthday kid only!
