To ask how often you look at your bank account?

I’ve seen people say they check their balance every day, while others barely look at it unless something goes wrong. Some swear by keeping a close eye on their money, while others say ignorance is bliss.

How often do you check yours? Do you think it’s better to monitor it regularly or just go with the flow?

Every morning.

On pay day, I transfer my wage into several different accounts (home, holiday, savings, etc). Then each morning, I transfer back any direct debits that are going out the next day. It means I rarely have a lot in my main account and hopefully protects me if my debit card is stolen or cloned. Food, clothing, etc is put on my credit card and paid off every month.

Are you me?!

Only difference is that I transfer our salary into a flexible savings account rather than different pots for holiday, home etc. Everything else is the same.

We make about £80-100 from the interest each month.

I have more than one bank account

One sends me text messages with the balance to my phone

One I check minimum 3 or 4 times a month via a different method

However I keep a close eye & do not go over drawn

TimeForABreak4 · 11/04/2025 16:50

Generally every day, unless I've been really busy or am away.

ErinAoife · 11/04/2025 16:56

Most daytime make no unauthorised transactions go through. I know so many people who had fraudulent transactions and did not realised for a few days

Cati482 · 11/04/2025 17:00

I check mine daily but mainly because I’m using my credit card to pay for everything atm to build up Avios points towards our holiday next year, so have to keep tabs on my current account to make sure I can pay the credit balance in full.

NetflicksAndSleep · 11/04/2025 17:16

Every day. Sometimes multiple times a day if I’ve been out and about and lost track of what I’ve spent.

Oblomov25 · 11/04/2025 17:36

Normally once a week.

we are the other way round, I check daily and my husband spends willy nilly with no clue what’s in the account! He used to be a very high earner and we didn’t need to worry about money at all, but these days it’s very different and his head hasn’t quite caught up with his actions. I sometimes really regret having to be the “grown up” and having to keep him in check. (Not saying your husband resents you by the way, I’m just easily annoyed!)

Haha, I’m sure he does some of the time! That’s why the spending money is separate. I like to have full control of what I allow myself to buy. If it was up to DH even water would be rationed.

it’s very good to be around a “grown up” so there’s no way he begrudges you. He’ll be glad even if it is secretly.

Most days…. to make sure we don’t go overdrawn!

ohtowinthelottery · 11/04/2025 17:50

Daily. DH once had his card cloned. I spotted a payment going through for £29.99 which I didn't recognise. Turned out he'd had his card cloned and the £29.99 was actually a monthly subscription that had been set up on his card by the fraudsters. I was lucky to spot it as it went through on a day we'd been Christmas shopping and both used our cards loads (joint account). Fortunately the bank were able to cancel the subscription immediately and refunded the initial payment but I did wonder how many people had fallen for this and not noticed £29.99 going out of their account every month.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 11/04/2025 17:56

I have them on apps so check the balances and transactions daily to ensure all is as it should be.

PrettayGood · 11/04/2025 18:00

Most days, I reckon. It’s so easy with apps.

In the old days, before apps, I used to be fairly oblivious.

We’re going to a quiz night on Wednesday and have to pay cash. Cash! I had to spend some time searching for a bank card today in order to go to a cash point. Seems archaic.

sparkellie · 11/04/2025 18:14

At least once a day. I have a bit of a thing about it. Partly because we struggled for money when I was young, so I became very careful about tracking what I was spending and it gives me a sense of security, and partly because I actually enjoy numbers and balancing money against last month, managing savings and budgeting spending for the week/month. I have notifications for money in/out, but still like to check!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 11/04/2025 18:17

Every day. I like knowing what's what.

EmmaEmEmz · 11/04/2025 18:19

Multiple times a day.

I don't keep money in my current account so swap money beyween savings and current when I need to pay for something

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/04/2025 18:19

Daily- I keep check on everything that goes out

Cel77 · 11/04/2025 21:45

Twice or more every day. I'm very stretched financially and have had to rely on PayPal,Klarna,Clearpay etc... I'm always checking I can pay a bill, or if a direct order has gone through.
It both reassures me and allows me to keep on top of my constant juggling with money.
