To ask how often you look at your bank account?

I’ve seen people say they check their balance every day, while others barely look at it unless something goes wrong. Some swear by keeping a close eye on their money, while others say ignorance is bliss.

How often do you check yours? Do you think it’s better to monitor it regularly or just go with the flow?

Every morning, it’s fallen in to routine to check all is as it should be.

Goldmember · 11/04/2025 12:31

I'm an accounts nerd so I check every bank/ savings and credit card balance every day and update my complex spreadsheet. I'm on holiday at the moment so I'm having to note down spends until I get home.

RockahulaRocks · 11/04/2025 12:32

Every day. I also have an app where I have envelopes and enter all my transactions so I know what money I have left for spending, travel, monthly bills etc. DH takes the piss mercilessly but I quite enjoy it!

Boredlass · 11/04/2025 12:32

Once a month when I pay my credit card bill. I get paid weekly but it might as well be monthly

Gliblet · 11/04/2025 12:33

Weekly but I also have it set up to send me a notification every time a DD is paid out, money is transferred in, or a payment out clears - I do manual swaps between accounts because not all my payments are on easy intervals to automate so I have a good look through my online statement whenever I'm logged in to do something else.

Perhapsanothertime · 11/04/2025 12:35

No specific routine and no real reason to check it. I know my current account always has about a 3-4K buffer in it and all my important bills go out at the start of the month after I’m paid.

I may check to ensure my buffer is still sufficient if I’ve had particularly high credit card spend in a prior month from holidays or new tech, but other than that I only usually open it to make manual payments to people. Other times I might see if my buffer is too high and move some money elsewhere.

I probably should inspect it more closely but I’ve thankfully never had a problem.

TallulahBetty · 11/04/2025 12:35

Several times a day 😳

Mumble12 · 11/04/2025 12:36

Multiple times a day

kolesaf · 11/04/2025 12:44

A few times a month. Never had any issues with fraud so I'm not anxious about checking it, and there's rarely anything unexpected. Pretty much everything is set up as a DD or standing order and there's a healthy buffer so I don't worry about not having enough for outgoing payments. I don't tend to make debit card purchases from that account so most transactions are the same every month.

iamnotalemon · 11/04/2025 12:46

Every few days usually, just to keep track and make sure that nothing has come out that shouldn’t have etc.

DH checks everyday with his morning poo. I’m a keep tapping the card until it stops working kind of girl. Check more than once a week and am always surprised and how much has gone.

we are the other way round, I check daily and my husband spends willy nilly with no clue what’s in the account! He used to be a very high earner and we didn’t need to worry about money at all, but these days it’s very different and his head hasn’t quite caught up with his actions. I sometimes really regret having to be the “grown up” and having to keep him in check. (Not saying your husband resents you by the way, I’m just easily annoyed!)

notacooldad · 11/04/2025 12:48

Everyday.
It's a good habit and has done me some favours by doing so.

AlteredStater · 11/04/2025 12:51

Maybe once a month or even longer, but could be more often depending on whether there's been a larger than usual credit card bill or I've had to pay trades people.

Clarinet1 · 11/04/2025 13:04

Sometimes multiple times an hour if I’m expecting money in - rarely less than a couple of times a day - Tight budget!

mondaytosunday · 11/04/2025 13:06

Three or four times a week usually. Some times several times a day if moving things around or expecting a payment etc.

LivLuna · 11/04/2025 13:06

Very regularly for a number of reasons including fraud and maximising the amount moved to savings.

StripyPanda · 11/04/2025 13:08

múltiple times a day usually but definitely at least once a day as i don’t trust my details being stolen or cloned and then i have to try and recoup any monies… so i would rather spend a few mins wasting my time than be oblivious to someone spending my money and having to recoup thousands

LazyArsedMagician · 11/04/2025 13:09

Most days, but tbh I have notifications set up so if anything pops up that I don't recognise I'd go in to specifically check.

I'm also paying off some debts so will quite often log in just to make a small payment. Every little helps!

bettydavieseyes · 11/04/2025 13:10

It depends. I don't spend much using my card as I prefer to budget by using cash so I don't check it daily but I do keep an eye out to see what bills have gone out so I can cross them off my list and sometimes make transfers to my 21yo who is at uni. If I'm doing something with the DC or going somewhere I will be using my card, I will check my bank beforehand.
Probably about twice a week.

Blueberrypot · 11/04/2025 13:11

Couple of times a day if online shopping. Daily if not.

Rarely, everything is set up as direct debit so I mainly just have a look at it when I need to set up a new payee and things like that
Should really be doing it a lot more!

MissPobjoysPonies · 11/04/2025 13:12

couple of times a week or more - I have work expenses going through so check to make sure I have already accounted for them and then that they’ve arrived in :)

I have two separate accounts but I have all wages and expenses paid to the same account.

GroovyChick87 · 11/04/2025 13:12

Every morning before I get up.

CustardySergeant · 11/04/2025 13:13

Once a month when I pay my credit card bill.

weareallalittlebitthesame · 11/04/2025 13:13

Pretty much every day. I don’t have much money so I need to know what I have before buying something/planning anything 🤔
