to be annoyed at my mate for telling me my period is only late if...

... I am beyond 28 days, even though my cycle is almost always 24 days long so to me 'being late' is it being 25 or 26 days.

she is insisting that I am only properly late once I get past 28 days. Does she mean in a pregnancy context?

You're late if it's longer than your usual cycle, whether that's 24 days, or 28 or 32 or whatever. She's talking nonsense!

minouminou · 15/05/2008 16:43

that'd wind me right up
it's just trivial enough to really bug the hell out of you, IYSWIM....like a paper cut or a gnat
really annoys me when people don't think properly!

MrsTittleMouse · 15/05/2008 16:45

She's wrong. Are you TTC? That would wind me right up if she was smuggly telling me that I was testing too early. Although I realise that it's not the end of the world really...

thelittlestbadger · 15/05/2008 16:46

Thats just silly and YANBU. It would be like someone telling me I was always late because I have a 35 day cycle.

WanderingTrolley · 15/05/2008 16:47

I think you YABU to be annoyed about it; she's just wrong, that's all.

YANBU to be irritated if she's one of those people who bang on and on and won't shut tf up until everyone agrees with them.

beaniesteve · 15/05/2008 16:51

Yes I am TTC and am also thinking I will probably get my period while I am on holiday AND while I am at Glastonbury as I have a short cycle and will get my period twice in one month.

My only hope is that because I was 2 days 'late' this month (ie my cycle was 26 days) I might be late next month. Only my work mate is telling me I am not actually 'late' at all. Meh!

Oh - and she bangs on and on about it. If I am late (Which is rare) she tells me I am not until I have gone past the 28 days.

OP posts:
MrsTittleMouse · 15/05/2008 16:52

In that case YANBU - TTC can be emotional enough at the best of times.

beaniesteve · 15/05/2008 16:53

Lol - not late now. I was, but just 2 days and I did a test but it was negative (AGAIN) so I am not pregnant.

Poor you. TTC is horrible. At least you have lovely things coming up to try and take your mind off it a bit

WanderingTrolley · 15/05/2008 17:00

I think you should stop discussing the subject with your colleague who, as an idiot, is unlikely to be helpful.

RainyWednesday · 15/05/2008 18:18

I've read that you're not late until after the last day of your longest cycle, so she could kind of be right, but if it's regularly 24 days and only once was 28 then I'd count that as a blip.

It's none of her flaming business (or mine ) though!

RainyWednesday · 15/05/2008 18:19

PS does she think your period is always early then?

ShowOfHands · 15/05/2008 18:25

Turn up to work late and breezily say 'well I'm not late because other people don't start work until midday'. Let's all make up a rule.

it's been 23/24 days for months apart from this month when it was 26 and two months ago when it was 30+.

beaniesteve · 30/05/2008 13:30

She's doing it again!

When trying to explain that I am probably going to have my period on Holiday unless I am late she asked 'is that 28 days though because you won't be late until you get to 28 days'

no no no no no... I have tried to explain with a regular 24 day cycle I will be late if I get my period after 25 or 26 days and so on, but no - apparently I won't be, I will only be late once I get past 28 day!

cheshirekitty · 30/05/2008 14:00

If your cycle is 24 days and you go over that period you are late.

Tell her a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife told you. Also tell her she is an idiot!!!!

AlistairSim · 30/05/2008 14:18

You don't work in a bank, do you?

It doesn't sound like she should be working with numbers....

ReallyTired · 30/05/2008 14:20

No one but my husband knows that we are trying to concieve.

I'm surprised that you tell your friends when your period is due. In someways I think your friend is well meaning if she is telling you wait a bit before pregnancy testing kits.

Pregnancy testing kits aren't cheap and if you are pregnant it will not harm your baby to wait until you are at least a week over your due date.

Howver I can understand you feeling desperate and frustrated to know if you are actually pregnant

Kewcumber · 30/05/2008 14:25

late is more than 14 days after you ovulated. If you have a cycle which is normally 24 and therefore you ovulate on day 10 then after day 24 you are late. However if its not unusual for you to have the occasional longer cycle meaning you sometimes ovulate on Days 10-16 then its quite possible that you aren't late but that you just ovulated later then nomal.

There's really no way of knowing until you are testing when you ovulate.

So either of you could be right!

TinkerbellesMum · 30/05/2008 14:29

They may not be cheap, but doctors use the Pound Shop ones.

My cycle used to be that I knew 11:30pm on the 4th Sunday I needed to go to the toilet! Since Tink they're totally irregular, but she's still BF. Late is later than what's normal for you, it's not based on anyone else's cycle.

wonderstuff · 30/05/2008 14:29

Why on earth does it matter to her? How strange! Fingers crossed you don't come on at all next cycle
