Basket ball bouncing

45 minutes of bouncing a ball, is that too much? I don’t know, I feel no at the moment but oh my god it is driving me mad! I feel I’m not good with repetitive noises so maybe I’m overreacting? I mean it’s good they’re out in the glorious sunshine but bloody hell it’s driving me potty!

Who are they?
Is it on your property?

Tbh, it wouldn't bother me 🤷‍♀️ but on MN basketballs are the work of the devil 🙄

In fact NDN is currently playing BB against my gable wall, which unfortunately isin their garden.

itsnotabouthepasta · 07/04/2025 16:00

our NDN plays basketball right by our back door all the time in the summer. It’s fucking AWFUL.

TheFlis · 07/04/2025 16:00

A bouncing basketball is a horrible, intrusive, thunking sound. We turned down a perfect house that ticked all our boxes purely because we realised you could hear a local park basketball court from the garden.

pearbottomjeans · 07/04/2025 16:01

I count that as peace and quiet tbh. Sitting outside listening to birds, lawnmowers, kids playing. Screaming and dogs barking not so much. Everyone has their own limits hence not everyone on same page!

GrandHighPoohbah · 07/04/2025 16:02

We need a bit more context. Is this a regular, prolonged thing, or more of an occasional activity for an hour or so during the school holidays?

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/04/2025 16:02

Would annoy me too, as well as banging from kids playing football in the garden.

Hotdayinjuly · 07/04/2025 16:05

Feel your pain. I have it with a football against my fence. There’s a fence at the end of their garden too but strangely they don’t seem to do it there as If it goes over it can’t be retrieved. it gets kicked over more than 3x I tell them I’m too busy to keep sending it back over . Seems to have worked and it’s happening a lot less. I don’t think can do anything but I know I would speak to my own children and would tell the to stop it.

Akela64 · 07/04/2025 16:10

It's reasonable for families to use their outdoor space for recreation during the day.

It’s not reasonable to have your wall or fence used though as many posters are describing.

Cakefolk · 07/04/2025 16:14

I have no idea who They are or where, I can just hear it. I think the problem is it was constant last summer and know it will be constant again. I too love the sound of birds and the giggles of children playing I’m not a monster! Just the god dam basket ball! I can’t even work out which direction it’s coming from!

I mean to be fair this is kinda lighthearted, I’m sure I’m as annoying as hell with my bagpipes

Ok, so they're not your children or your neighbours then.
And presumably not on your property.
Do you know where they're playing?

Not a lot you can do I guess if you don't know who or where they are.

NC28 · 07/04/2025 16:22

Stick a knife in the ball, OP. 😆

My ds who is ten plays basketball, it's his hobby and he loves it. I understand the noise can be annoying so we limit it to daytime only and certainly not past 7pm. I'm not sure we could do anymore than that. He does have a 'silent' basketball but it's rubbish it doesn't bounce properly. Sometimes dp will take him to the outdoor court.

He trains three times a week with his club and they set practice drills to do at home, he wants to keep his place on the team so he needs to do the practice.

MajorCarolDanvers · 07/04/2025 18:21

The sun is shining, the children are playing….and so the fun-sucking threads begin.

It's not him today!

The basketball noise is annoying but if it's not super early or late I think we just have to live with it. My neighbour who lets her toddlers put in the garden at 7:30am on a Saturday on the otherhand...😤

Hankunamatata · 07/04/2025 18:29

Urgh basketball bouncing is up there with constantly kicking football at fence.

I take dc to local outdoor court daily so don't inflict it on neighbours

FleaBeeBob · 07/04/2025 18:32

I have football pitch in front of me and early morning to 11pm bang of footballs and such like on the concrete floor, or they’re being knocked or thrown against the wire fence
screaming kids and adults, arguments every day

SoundOfTheUnderground1 · 07/04/2025 18:34

I'm raising 3 boys, it's hard.
If the worst thing they do is annoy the neighbors when they play basketball in their garden, I can live with that.

We lived next door to a boy with ASD who was on his garden trampoline for hours, it was really annoying, but I understood it was a coping strategy for him & his parents.
If you're still unsure if you're being unreasonable, go watch Adolescence.

Cakefolk · 07/04/2025 18:36

@TartanMammywoah thats early! While I do quietly Seeth! I am obviously happy the weather is good and we can all get out to play….better than watching telly and being on phones (like I am now 😆) actually it’s stopped it must be tea time!!

I hate it too!! And footballs on the fence 😭

DrummingMousWife · 07/04/2025 18:37

Start shouting “bounce!” Constantly as you hear it. See if it stops.
