Basket ball bouncing

45 minutes of bouncing a ball, is that too much? I don’t know, I feel no at the moment but oh my god it is driving me mad! I feel I’m not good with repetitive noises so maybe I’m overreacting? I mean it’s good they’re out in the glorious sunshine but bloody hell it’s driving me potty!

The sun is shining, the children are playing….and so the fun-sucking threads begin.

Not all of it is “playing” though. Some of it is whacking on neighbours’ front doors or as I saw yesterday, chucking stones about. It’s not all unicorns and rainbows in South London.

YANBU. I lived next door to a serial basketball player. Drove me mad. Glad to say he's now got children. Sounds of laughter, singing, trampoline, squeaky swing, all so much better than bloody bouncing ball.

My ex neighbour’s son used to do this every night for what felt like hours. Then he got interested in girls and it stopped.

It's fucking awful. Next doors kids play basketball daily and I find myself twitching in rhythm to the ball bouncing. Apart from that they are fantastic neighbours so we just quietly grumble and fantasise about getting our kids a violin as revenge.

I'm quite tolerant of noises. Parents and ILs visit and complain about loud traffic, barking dogs, ticking clocks which I don't even register. We have a school and kindergarten a block away and I barely notice. However, I would agree that basketball bouncing is the most annoying sound. I think it's the irregular thumping together with the spring of the ball.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much you can do about it if it's not your kids. It is good they're outside getting outside. You might just have to turn some enjoyable music on loud.

My children don't have a hoop in the garden because I think it's disturbing to the neighbours. They go to the park which is very close by. If it was too far away to walk to I'd let them put up a hoop but limit it to 30 mins at a time. I don't like the sound of the bouncing either 😅

Three hours is definitely not reasonable.

Just remember, if they can make three hours noise outside, so can you. They gave you permission.

Oh look, a sensible and considerate neighbour. Well done.

I really hate the sound of it. But I think they're reasonable to play with a ball at their own home (even though it's really annoying!)

WhatNoRaisins · 08/04/2025 06:52

I think it's good for young people to be doing outdoor activities as long as it's not at antisocial hours. When you live around other people you're going to hear them.

Wouldn't bother me at all, but I'm a lot more laid back than your average MNer.
