To think Lucy Connolly has been made an example of?

Have any of you read this article about Lucy Connolly who tweeted inflammatory comments following the Southport murders? I have to admit that at the time I was fully supportive of having her locked up, with the key thrown away. But reading this article made me view it all a little differently. Surely she has done her time?

Yes there are plenty of videos of protestors literally calling for the genocide of Jews. No repercussions whatsoever.

The opposite of real is fake. You asked me if it was real or not. I said it was and proved it to be so.

I have never said it was about me, how odd of you to think that. Again, more deflection!

I asked you to clarify if your friend had been stabbed 71 times (you said you had suffered trauma from her death) – I didn’t ask you if a random stranger had been stabbed 71 times. You have made no attempt whatsoever to ‘prove’ that you had any sort of relationship with the murdered woman. You haven’t even described her as a close friend.

I had already said my friend when I first posted it. The words were actually typed there for you to read. What clarification did you need from me saying my friend to you asking if it was real or imaginary. Listen you got pissed that your gotcha didn't work now coming up with random excuses as deflection.

Dumbdog
Look at the example Brianna Ghey’s mum sets. She lost her child in the most horrific circumstances and moves through life with grace, forgiveness and compassion.
She has been where LC has been

Although Brianna Ghey’s killers were given life sentences, as was the man who stabbed the women 71 times. Whereas, the doctor most at fault in the death of Lucy Connolly’s child was allowed to carry on practising, despite objections from the GMC.

In addition, Keir Starmer has supported Brianna Ghey’s mother and also the parents of the woman who was stabbed 71 times. I remember now that Starmer invited Jane Clough’s parents to the Labour Party Conference in 2021 and talked about their loss in his speech – he also invited Brianna Ghey to the House of Commons. What has Starmer done for the Connolly family?

'I’ve read worse things than that on Twitter, i must say. The foul language that JK Rowling is regularly subjected to, makes me flinch.'

Exactly.

If only the police were more consistent with their arresting and charging of tweeters.

AzurePanda · 13/04/2025 12:15

@Gloriia not to mention the incessant death threats made against JK Rowling.

And my first reply to you was to suggest that your trauma might reduce the sentence for the hypothetical crime you suggested you may have committed. Then as an afterthought, I wondered if you were also talking about a hypothetical trauma.

Listen you got pissed that your gotcha didn't work

It wasn't intended to be a gotcha and you are the only one who seems pissed off.

But moving the conversation on a bit, and relating your trauma to Lucy Connolly - how did your trauma affect you? Did you need counselling and were you diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder as Lucy Connolly was? Also, do you have any children of your own?

I'm not pissed off. You'd like me to be but your little efforts will not do that to me.

How did my trauma affect me? Nope I do not need calling abnormal so no diagnosis as I do not believe in labels for mental health. I prefer not to use stigma and believe in a trauma informed model of mental health not pathologising trauma and calling people abnormal as it is not abnormal. I manage my trauma on my own for all trauma I have dealt with. I know the score and know what works for me. My trauma causes trauma responses which are unique to me. None of which have ever made me focus on wanting to kill a whole ethnic group that are nothing to do with what caused my trauma.

Nope no children of my own, never will have. Why do you ask?

Also why are you asking as you clearly said you didn't want this to be about me and now you are making it so.

Feelings and emotions do not have a time scale on them. People can be triggered by anything at anytime.

Knee jerk is exactiy what it sounds like, a sudden reaction. She thought about it and then deleted it.

She had a history of anti asylum seeker and racist rhetoric on her social media account. I would hardly say it was out of character for her.

In his sentencing remarks the judge said that she still hadn't taken on board the serious nature of her offence.

So what if she has a history or anti asylum seeker comments, many people do. Understandably so. 600 arrived yesterday I've no idea where they're all supposed to go.

We can only hope her appeal is successful. You shouldn't get a custodial sentence for a nasty tweet, or as we keep on saying if that's the case then half the people posting online would be banged up. She and others were made 'examples' of.

AzurePanda · 13/04/2025 15:49

There is no law against racism.

They don’t just pluck people off the street to “make examples of”. She plead guilty to the charge of stirring up racial hatred. The sentence was within the guidelines as has been mentioned about 400 times on this thread. She was caught and punished for something she, by her own admission, was guilty of.

I’m not sure anyone said there was did they?

Being a racist is unpleasant. But as long as you keep your racist thoughts to yourself, there’s no crime. When you start to voice those thoughts, that’s when you could find yourself on the wrong side of the law. Better not to judge people by the skin colour, their religion or their country of origin and you won’t have any issues 🤷

Yes and as we've said 400 times whether she was badly advised whatever it was wrong.

You must have seen this isn't just on mumsnet there is widespread condemnation for the heavy handedness of her case.

Hopefully the appeal will be successful.

The point is that her history of anti asylum seeker comments was irrelevant to this case. Unless she had been persistently inciting violence.

Well forgive me for not taking your opinion on the rights and wrongs of the law over her barrister, who I presume has significantly more experience with the law than you.

Well as I've said it isn't just my opinion there had been widespread condemnation of how this poor woman has been treated and the ridiculous sentence. Her barrister maybe needs to go on a refresher course.

It could be that her lawyer was incompetent.

It could be that he didn’t disclose the very likely outcome of her plea.

It could be that she was just too arrogant and arm chair lawyer (like plenty on here to actually listen).

She has form for arrogance. “The tweet bit me in the arse LOL”. Planning to “play the mental health card if they arrest me”. Planning to continue childminding despite being de registered.

I don’t know if her lawyer has form for incompetence.

Gloriia · 13/04/2025 17:51

'It could be that she was just too arrogant and arm chair lawyer (like plenty on here to actually listen)'

Or, she was possibly terrified and in a state of shock. Went along with the advice of the professionals thinking they knew best?

That isn't arrogance, it is regret with a bit of self mockery chucked in.

There are far worse people saying much more offensive stuff online.

The people in the hotels people tried to set light to were probably terrified. Connolly seems to have a lot of kindred spirits.

There has been widespread support for the flat earth movement online, doesn’t mean it’s correct.
