Someone should have told me I could do this before now

I recently visited McDonald's with my clearly more knowledgeable kids and watched them order burgers stripped down of everything bar the burger, bun and ketchup. But then I noticed there was a plus sign to add on as well as a minus to remove.

This was even where there were already onions and pickles on the burger so it means you can have EXTRA onions and pickles to the ones already included.

Why did I not know this? My mate who was with us did not know either which makes me feel a bit better but how long have I been missing this trick???

Am I being unreasonable to think my kids should really know they need to tell me these things

I used to work in Maccers mid to late 90's and we did this. You just had to ask at the till, so I guess I always knew. Thinking even further back my friends used to get no onions or pickle in their burgers in the 80's.

I guess you're not a regular maccers user. Yeah, you can add lettuce and pickles and mayo and stuff to most burgers. Bacon/cheese too at a cost.

I have the cheese removed from the sausage and egg muffin and add grated parmesan. Lol. Posh twat, right?

I used to remember you could get double filet fish burger in Thailand. Sadly I don't think you can add an extra fish patty over here on the screens?

Just here from Thailand to confirm they still do those 😁

They do some great stuff. At the moment they have a "cheesy" burger which is like a cross between a big mac and a cheeseburger with a really yummy sauce.

Oh and don't get me started on the banoffee pies. Basically the apple pie, but banoffee flavour 🤤

Why it’s a myth? Genuinely interested.

Surely if you’re removing stuff they can’t just get a burger that’s made up and take it off because it might be an allergy or something?

I guess maybe if you’re adding extras, they could. But they’d still have to unwrap the burger and add it on. Surely just easier to make a custom one, especially as they’re making up new ones anyway half the time?

My DC will only eat burgers that are totally, totally plain - no sauce even other than ketchup that they put on in case it’s the “wrong” type of sauce. So we’ve always had to request a special order - which has always meant pulling into the waiting slots while they make them up specially.

I think it used to be the case when they had a load of stuff prepared that sat on a warming plate. Nowadays every order is “freshly” made. They take the pre-cooked burgers, load them up and heat them through.

I always get a little tub of extra gherkins if I ask

Bc it’s all made fresh

Here's your applause for being a better person than those who lower themselves to a McD's once in a while. Super well done 👏

Tut tut

you forgot the 🎖️

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 02/04/2025 14:48

If you ask for extra, or without, anything you tend to get a freshly made burger. So I always ask for bacon and cheese with my Whopper at Burger King for instance.

Aposterhasnoname · 02/04/2025 14:51

Trovindia · 02/04/2025 12:19

You can add bacon to the hamburgers as well. My son loves that

Wait. What?? How did not know this.

B1indEye · 02/04/2025 14:52

Nosaucelikemintsauce · 02/04/2025 12:18

Yabu to eat anything from there..

Are you a bot?

Why does anyone think this is worth posting every time McD is mentioned?

hairyunicorn · 02/04/2025 14:52

An extra slice of cheese, ketchup, mustard and onions on a triple cheeseburger. Yum!!

Filling like a Big Mac but under £3.50

Spangers · 02/04/2025 14:52

The customise feature is great, I remove the ice from my Diet Coke as they always put too much in.

One of my DC prefers a plain cheeseburger too.

The best McDonalds trick is to order a vanilla milkshake and an espresso, mix together = coffee milkshake

We used to be told to make them from scratch, due to allergies, in the 90's. So yes it would have been fresher at our store but I can't say across the board. I find it is a lot slower these days as you have about 1/3 of the staff, and they all look half dead, so the old "3min turnaround from order to customer" we all had to adhere to is well and truly dead now.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 02/04/2025 14:55

Fucking love their pickles.

Jujujudo · 02/04/2025 15:11

They do this to me with my iPhone! They know all these cool tricks that are so useful but I obviously don’t know about! Like, why aren’t you showing me all this!!??!!

IKillUnkillablePlants · 02/04/2025 15:13

I went to grab a cheeseburger last week, overheard a staff member saying a woman had asked for no sauce, onion or pickles on her cheeseburger, but was coming back in 5 minutes to collect it. Not long after, my cheeseburger arrived, as I went to eat it, discovered no sauce, onion or pickles, the best bits! I took it back explaining they must have given me the wrong one, they gave me another.

All good, except, they then rewrapped the burger I had manhandled and popped it in a bag ready to hand over to the correct woman 🍔😶

Hoggyhoghog · 02/04/2025 15:22

I’ve always customized my burgers because I know it’s at least a bit. Not in the UK. The McDonalds in the UK is bad really bad!

skyeisthelimit · 02/04/2025 15:40

I love the customisation because I remove the pickle, onions and mustard, although the last couple of times I have been in, there has been onions :(

The funniest thing was when I had a free double cheeseburger with points, so I claimed that and removed 1 patty. Somebody came to my table and asked me if I wanted no patties. I said no, it comes with 2 and I removed 1 so it should have 1. it turned up and had 0 patties in it.

The next time I had the same offer, I removed 1 patty and again they gave me just a bun with ketchup and cheese in it.

Mcds I know for sure is always made fresh. The brand is battling the idea that it isn’t as a lot of ppl customise to get a fresh one but there’s no need.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 02/04/2025 15:45

GreatGardenstuff · 02/04/2025 12:46

You used to be able to double up the mcplant burger, but then they stopped it. Not been for months as a result.

I doubled the McP last week. Check again, it might be available again in your store.

Tigergirl80 · 02/04/2025 15:46

I only know from ordering on the touch screen. They changed the recipe about 10 years ago and found they are a trigger for ds cluster seizures. So it’s usually nugget or a wrap.

Tigergirl80 · 02/04/2025 15:50

But I do remember ex’s daughter asking for a plain cheeseburger. So I’ve always known you could ask for it without. But didn’t know you could add anything else extra other than cheese.

OneTC · 02/04/2025 15:52

Certainly since at least bk did "you got it your way" you've been able to take stuff out of burgers for years at bk and maccas.

Adding stuff only happened relatively recently

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 02/04/2025 15:52

You haven't mentioned the best bit which is that if you order extra pickles and onion it is FREEEEEEEEEE

Extra ketchup on the burger is also free, whilst ordering it seperately can be 10 p

Another "add on" I like is adding another sausage patty to the "single mcmuffin and drink" deal which is normally £2.79 (London.) This turns it into a double mcmuffin but you get to keep the deal for only a little extra (I think it is £3.49 total)

lovemycbf · 02/04/2025 15:54

Megifer · 02/04/2025 12:23

Yabu I couldn't possibly manage extra items, I'm already full after merely inhaling the aroma from outside.

🤣

clary · 02/04/2025 13:33

I have this and have never been charged extra. Are you sure? Are you in the UK?

Yes UK! I will try this.
