Someone should have told me I could do this before now

I recently visited McDonald's with my clearly more knowledgeable kids and watched them order burgers stripped down of everything bar the burger, bun and ketchup. But then I noticed there was a plus sign to add on as well as a minus to remove.

This was even where there were already onions and pickles on the burger so it means you can have EXTRA onions and pickles to the ones already included.

Why did I not know this? My mate who was with us did not know either which makes me feel a bit better but how long have I been missing this trick???

Am I being unreasonable to think my kids should really know they need to tell me these things

Here's your applause for being a better person than those who lower themselves to a McD's once in a while. Super well done 👏

They must be aghast that most of the country love a maccies 😆

Sofiewoo · 02/04/2025 13:39

I don’t understand how you wouldn’t ever think you could ask for more or less of something that you’re paying for?

Crazyladee · 02/04/2025 13:41

I've ordered extra big mac sauce on my big mac for about 30 years! It used to be a bit of a pain as you have to go to the grill waiting bay if you use the drive through, but it's freshly made. And has extra sauce!

TeenToTwenties · 02/04/2025 12:13

YABVU to want pickles.

I put extra pickles on my big mac

cestlaviecherie · 02/04/2025 13:50

You can do it ordering online too, I always get extra lettuce.

Snippit · 02/04/2025 13:50

I’m coeliac so don’t go into McDonalds, I daren’t have their salads as I can’t guarantee cross contamination.

I didn't know this either! Is this using the screen in the store? Presume you can't face to face? Saying that, not many maccies have face to face ordering now.

We did it on the screen

I am learning so much on here - this is another excellent tip. Mind it sounds as though I go all the time and I don't really go that often but might have to go a bit more often to try these out 😀

The added bonus is that these adjustments are likely to be cooked to order so you get food straight off the grill

Ironfloor269 · 02/04/2025 14:04

Sorry if it’s a stupid question, but do you have to pay for all the extra bits you add?

businessflop25 · 02/04/2025 14:04

You have been able to do this for years! It used to be a hack to make sure you got the freshest food because they would make it up specifically for you. It wouldn’t be one that had been sat in the hot cabinet for ages. My mum used to always change one thing on each of our orders when we were kids 30 odd years ago!

BobbyBiscuits · 02/04/2025 14:05

I guess you're not a regular maccers user. Yeah, you can add lettuce and pickles and mayo and stuff to most burgers. Bacon/cheese too at a cost.

I have the cheese removed from the sausage and egg muffin and add grated parmesan. Lol. Posh twat, right?

I used to remember you could get double filet fish burger in Thailand. Sadly I don't think you can add an extra fish patty over here on the screens?

Coasterspec · 02/04/2025 14:05

I went through a drive through for the first time last week. The friend I was with thought it was hilarious I didn't know what to do. They really should put up instructions !

Cloudyvibes · 02/04/2025 14:07

I found this out a while ago and was so pleased that I could add cheese to my Mc chicken sandwich and extra mayo😉 Game changer! 👏

Tangyfan · 02/04/2025 14:09

GreatGardenstuff · 02/04/2025 12:46

You used to be able to double up the mcplant burger, but then they stopped it. Not been for months as a result.

@GreatGardenstuff you can order an extra patty for the Mcplant.

whatapalarva · 02/04/2025 14:10

Is this in the UK? I am sure I have not seen this option in my local McD's 🤔

clary · 02/04/2025 14:23

It’s a myth that your McD’s is fresher if you customise tho.

LegoLivingRoom · 02/04/2025 14:25

Ironfloor269 · 02/04/2025 14:04

Sorry if it’s a stupid question, but do you have to pay for all the extra bits you add?

It depends on the burger and what you want to add. I get extra onion, pickles and sauce for free on my quarter pounder, but would have to pay for bacon. I used to be able to add lettuce for free, but they took that away.

And yes, it’s in the UK.

Redandyellowqueen · 02/04/2025 14:27

I was so glad when they did this! Saves me taking the pickles out myself, or even worse - eating one in error! 🤮

YABVU to want pickles.

And VUUUUUUUU FOR EXTRA 🥴🥴🥴

DeepfriedPizza · 02/04/2025 14:34

I used to work at Burger King when it was all about the "have it your way" slogan or whatever it was. It was only until recently, 20 years after I left BK, that I realised you could do it at McD's. It never even crossed my mind.

SpidersAreShitheads · 02/04/2025 14:35

clary · 02/04/2025 14:23

It’s a myth that your McD’s is fresher if you customise tho.

Why it’s a myth? Genuinely interested.

Surely if you’re removing stuff they can’t just get a burger that’s made up and take it off because it might be an allergy or something?

I guess maybe if you’re adding extras, they could. But they’d still have to unwrap the burger and add it on. Surely just easier to make a custom one, especially as they’re making up new ones anyway half the time?

My DC will only eat burgers that are totally, totally plain - no sauce even other than ketchup that they put on in case it’s the “wrong” type of sauce. So we’ve always had to request a special order - which has always meant pulling into the waiting slots while they make them up specially.

MarkingBad · 02/04/2025 14:36

They have whole ad campaigns dedicated to this on occasion. They've allowed customisation for years, pre app days you just asked for it.
