Would it bother you if your dh/oh smoked weed all day?

NDN, they seem like nice people, very quiet neighbours, both working full time, have children in the house, but the husband gets in from work and goes straight out to have a smoke.

At the weekend he seems to smoke weed all day long. He goes off driving after he’s been smoking too.

Smoking weed seems to be so common these days, you can smell it when pulled up at traffic lights, coming from people’s homes, people standing near playgrounds and even near the school at pick up time.

Has it just become so normal that most people are fine with it?

The smell of weed doesn’t bother so no, I would not care. I also would not care about them smoking around their kids. Although that’s some pretty potent weed if it makes all the rooms in your house smell of it.

You should definitely have a word with them about that.

Edited

Perhaps if you’re used to the smell you don’t notice it 🤷‍♀️

The neighbours that lived there before smoked it and it came through the walls and floorboards.

This guy is smoking it in the back garden and it wafts up into our back bedrooms.

I don’t think people who smoke weed realise how strong it smells and how much it carries. There’s a house we walk by each evening and you can smell it from outside. It absolutely stinks.

My dd works in a nursery. One toddler so badly came in smelling of weed the manager mentioned it to the gdm who did collections usually.. Now the girl comes in freshly sprayed with cheap perfume...
Hopefully other factors will prompt a call to ss.

Newtess · 30/03/2025 19:28

I would hate it personally, the smell is vile. I feel sorry for dc growing up in it. They have no choice.

But it's not YOUR DH, or any of ours. Maybe he has a condition which causes chronic pain. Maybe he has anxiety or another issue and is self-medicating. It's not really any of your business.

Would you say that if he was driving about under the influence of alcohol?

user1497787065 · 30/03/2025 19:35

I keep reading about smelling weed everywhere and I still have no idea what it smells like. Can I not smell it or is it never around me?

I do notice it. That’s why I said it does not bother me. If I did not notice I would not be able to comment on whether or not it would bother me.

But as it is an issue for you I am suggesting you speak to your neighbour.

whyamiawakestillitssolate · 30/03/2025 19:46

One of our near neighbours smokes weed but I just don’t go out in the garden with the kids if I can smell it.

I personally couldn’t be with anyone who took any illegal drugs or smoked in any way - it’s not a lifestyle I understand.

Yes I do know that we can complain to him, or report him for driving.

Im more surprised though that there are women who are content to live with a man who seemingly so bds all evening and weekends popping into the garden for a smoke. And that they are ok with exposing their children to it.

Yeah same, I can’t understand it. Well I understand it’s an addiction but it would be a deal breaker for me.

I don’t think anybody here has said they would be fine with their partner smoking all day / evenings / weekends?

Mind your own business

If my neighbour smokes it all the time and I can smell it in my own garden then it damn well is my business. It's antisocial.

Mingenious · 30/03/2025 20:05

I wouldn’t be in a relationship with someone like that because they’re boring as fuck and they stink!

No but the neighbours wife seems to be 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn’t care about him having say a joint of an evening. I don’t view that as any different to having a glass of wine or something.

all day every day and driving after is a bit different. It’s basically like being an alcoholic and I wouldn’t be ok with that either.

Comedycook · 30/03/2025 20:15

I wouldn't have even dated a man who smokes weed let alone married one. It's vile.

I saw a woman pushing a buggy with a toddler in it and smoking a joint on the high street the other day...grim

It smells like a stinky ferret if that's any help. If you've walked past someone and thought 'wow, they must have been cleaning out some animals this morning' - chances are that's it.

In fact, ferrets smell nicer.

StMarie4me · 30/03/2025 20:32

No, because he wouldn’t be my partner anymore.

I only know one person who does this. His life is an empty shell. He only cares about weed. His paranoia is growing and he will never work or anything.

Do you want that life?

That might be true, but he should not be self medicating with weed and getting behind the wheel of a car, it's totally unfair on other road users.

Yes, it becomes the business of everyone around you when you choose to drive under the influence.

gamerchick · 30/03/2025 20:42

I wouldn't be with someone who smokes dope. I did back in the day and they're shit, lazy people and boring to be around

SP2024 · 30/03/2025 20:43

Absolutely not normal. And not something I would tolerate. Weed makes people anxious, paranoid and moody. It’s made out like it’s nothing but actually I think it causes a lot of lower level mental health issues.

BornSandyDevotional · 30/03/2025 20:43

It's not 'all day' if they're out at work as per your initial post.

The smell gives me migraine instantly so I'm not a fan when my neighbour is out chugging away on gear in the garden.

I wouldn't have the faintest idea whether he'd be over the limit for driving.

The resident drunk couple who fight endlessly just up the road are far worse.

Maybe they aren't keen on you either?

YANBU for being an interfering old busy body.

billysboy · 30/03/2025 20:44

I have sacked a few guys this last 12 months for smelling of weed as they have been smoking it
I have never known anyone who smokes weed to be “ dynamic and a go getter “

Fayruh · 30/03/2025 20:56

One of my best friends is addicted to weed (although I don't know if he'd admit that). He smokes daily, spends around 300 pounds a month on his habit and says he will never quit. He's not motivated to find a partner as I think the habit just consumes thing. It's actually really sad as he has never had a girlfriend and also misses out on so many life experiences.

Are you stoned yourself because your post makes no sense and you also don’t seem to be able to read very well.

I said he smokes it all day at the weekend. I know this for an absolute fact. He starts at 10 in the morning.

Wtf are you on about ‘interfering old busy body’.

In what way is it being an ‘interfering busy body’ to notice that my ndn is getting stoned all day inflicting his stinky smells on us and his children and to wonder why his wife puts up with it.

Unless you think it’s fine for children to grow up living with potheads?
