Would it bother you if your dh/oh smoked weed all day?

NDN, they seem like nice people, very quiet neighbours, both working full time, have children in the house, but the husband gets in from work and goes straight out to have a smoke.

At the weekend he seems to smoke weed all day long. He goes off driving after he’s been smoking too.

Smoking weed seems to be so common these days, you can smell it when pulled up at traffic lights, coming from people’s homes, people standing near playgrounds and even near the school at pick up time.

Has it just become so normal that most people are fine with it?

They are not nice people. They are racists indirectly, they are happy to see young men stabbed and Mexicans (and others) killed.

I would be calling the police the moment he set foot in a vehicle.

You don’t know where he gets his weed from.

I have a family member who gets his weed from a father at his kid’s school. But he does not sell weed. He just just his own little private plants and shares a small bit with good friends. No stabbings or Mexicans being killed.

(The accusation of racism is hilarious though, weirdly especially given the thinking behind it…😂)

But it's not YOUR DH, or any of ours. Maybe he has a condition which causes chronic pain. Maybe he has anxiety or another issue and is self-medicating. It's not really any of your business.

Or maybe he's just an arsehole

ItGhoul · 30/03/2025 17:24

It would bother me if it was every day, yes. I don’t think it would bother me if it was just now and again. I wouldn’t be joining them but I probably wouldn’t care if my partner smoked the occasional joint. The last time I had a relationship with someone who smoked weed was more than 30 years ago, though!

I don’t really have any opinion on what other people do. My next door neighbour is a seemingly habitual weed smoker but he’s lovely, seems to function perfectly well as a family man and he works full time. The same can’t be said of the neighbours on the other side, who also smoke weed, although far less often than the nice neighbour does.

JHound · 30/03/2025 17:25

Oh I would only care if my partner smoked from weed all day.

I don’t care what my neighbour does.

WhatMe123 · 30/03/2025 17:29

Would never have formed a relationship with them in the first place it's a deal breaker for me tbh op

theallotmentqueen · 30/03/2025 17:31

honestly big red flag for me if children are in the house. You shouldn't be under the influence of drugs when looking after a child, period.

Loveheart13101 · 30/03/2025 17:53

All the people saying myob or that you don’t care what your neighbours do.

So you’re perfectly content with having weed smell wafting into your garden all Summer and through your windows? You don’t care if your kids bedrooms stink of weed because of a neighbour smoking beneath them?

And you wouldn’t judge someone in and out the garden all day smoking weed then nipping off in their car. You wouldn’t judge them for smoking weed around their own children either?

I find it really strange that everyone would have strongly negative views of a drink driver, but not a drug driver? The OP said he drives. That’s illegal and kills. So it is her business

Meadowfinch · 30/03/2025 18:00

Not for me. No drugs except those prescribed by a doc. And having left an alcoholic, any more than a couple of drinks on a night out and I'd be heading for the door.
I wouldn't date someone who drank a bottle of wine a night so weed is definitely out.

I reckon people like to just make out that they’re really cool and liberal.

People also fall over themselves to make excuses for people too.

Op, if you are genuinely worried about pothead neighbour DUI, report him and his registration number on your local police website. You can do so anonymously.

WeeOrcadian · 30/03/2025 18:04

Fucking gross, and I'm all for medicinal cannabis

I hope you report him when he's stoned driving

readingismycardio · 30/03/2025 18:06

I really hope it hasn’t become normal.

Bumblebaee · 30/03/2025 18:06

It wouldnt bother me personally if he smoked weed. It would bother me if he smoked all day and didn’t do anything else (work, look after the kids or himself, wasn’t ambitious or motivated. Would also bother me if it affected his normal way of living (so if he turned violent/ spiteful/ depressive).

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 30/03/2025 18:06

Er no

And if he really drives after it I would report it

nadine90 · 30/03/2025 18:06

Occasionally, on a weekend evening, without children around, it wouldn’t bother me.
Around kids (or impressionable young adult dc), or on the regular, no I couldn’t tolerate that.
If you see him get behind the wheel after smoking it, I would treat that as drink driving and report. He could kill someone.

No, not normal.to me.
Definitely couldn't be with anyone regularly doing weed, it's absolutely foul.

MrsSunshine2b · 30/03/2025 16:59

The OP hasn't said anything about him driving.

2nd paragraph of the OP

I would call the police everytime he was behind the wheel

tollouse · 30/03/2025 18:20

Mudkipper · 30/03/2025 17:02

Everyone I've known who smoked weed in any quantity has been unreliable. They don't do anything. They can't keep a job. The weed has stopped being effective for them, so they've moved on to something stronger. They've had personality issues.

In short, I wouldn't stay five minutes with someone who smoked that stuff.

I am a professional with a post grad and I've never been out of work. You'll be surprised how many people do it who do hold down jobs. I'm not unreliable either nor have i ever done any other 'drug'.

I do know people like you describe but I'm good friends with a prolific smoker(far more than me!) Who's a successful IT professional for example.

As I've said I do only do it now and again, and I don't have responsibilities (other than work of course and I'd not do it if working the following day).

Please report the drug driving. Give them his reg and call when he goes out

tollouse · 30/03/2025 18:26

Problem with reporting drug driving is that the police can't do anything about it unless they literally catch him doing it. The chances of them having a unit available when the op may ring and say 'Joe Bloggs at number 10 is driving with a smoke in his hand' is slim to none. They're not going to keep one on standby while they're stretched to capacity as it is,just in case.

Dearover · 30/03/2025 18:43

Police on the Isle of Wight seem to catch people most days. Perhaps because they don't like dealing with the aftermath.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 30/03/2025 18:53

I couldn't, I'd lose respect for him

Maybe if he did it as a one off on a lads weekend or whatever but every evening in my house, nope

In my 20s, I had one friend who smoked every evening and would insist on calling me, only to giggle and not be able to comprehend what I was saying. It made her very dumb, and I wouldn't want a man like that

cramptramp · 30/03/2025 18:54

It would bother me if he did it once every ten years.

The smell of weed doesn’t bother so no, I would not care. I also would not care about them smoking around their kids. Although that’s some pretty potent weed if it makes all the rooms in your house smell of it.

You should definitely have a word with them about that.
