Just been listening to this Spring Statement. What a load of total waffle. About how great things are going to be. Absolute and utter nonsense.

I find it chilling that this awful woman is apparently eager to get more children into foster care.

With all the problems there are in this country, why is she eager to fund children being removed from the care of their parents?

Many children are abused worse in care than they ever were in their own families.

I'm no longer prepared to pay tax in this country or employ British based staff so I won't be funding it.

strawlight · 26/03/2025 14:02

A private school in her constituency has just closed down after 270 years and the locals are fuming. Won’t be surprised if she gets booted out as their MP.

I don't think I can be bothered to explain to someone who seriously believes that Johnson was ever a credible politician.

I don't think I can be bothered to explain

I think that's what you meant.

indigovapour · 26/03/2025 14:06

NDornotND · 26/03/2025 13:43

Well, the country voted Labour, we got Labour. If you don't like it, you should probably crack on and campaign for your preferred alternative.

Genius. You appear to be saying that no mere voter can criticise any government for anything they do, ever. This thinking business isn’t really your strong suit is it?

WhitegreeNcandle · 26/03/2025 14:09

I’ve just listened to it all. Sounds quite good bit two things strike me. No word of how all these amazing things are going to be paid for. A lot about defence but it really worries me as a country that we aren’t self sufficient in energy and food and our water systems are a mess. We can’t get

No, not at all, you criticise away. I meant if you're unhappy and want to change things, you'll probably need to do something beyond criticism.

Her attempts to gloss over the things that really matter are nauseating. Where are measures to help education (primary, secondary or tertiary), or the NHS?

Edited

Five hospitals in my region are getting billions in rebuild/refurbishment costs.

yossell · 26/03/2025 14:11

Her cuts shouldn't be a surprise: she's been cosplaying as a Tory for years. What is a surprise is the incompetence. Her only plan was to grow the economy out of trouble and then she delivered a budget which was anti-growth.

We now have 3 right wing main parties to choose from, none of which have any kind of desire to tackle the inequality which could help ordinary people and the vulnerable from being squeezed into poverty. I despair.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 26/03/2025 14:15

Dymaxion · 26/03/2025 13:36

My mortgage rate is still high after her disastrous budget of last autumn,

I thought mortgage rates shot up after the Liz Truss debacle ?

They went up again (by smaller amounts) in the autumn. I fixed a rate start of September and they went up not long after and still haven’t come down to what they were before yet.

Are you a woman, Anna?

If so, please never use this “Rachel From Accounts” shit again, it is offensive and reductive. It implies women are only good for low level back office jobs, should know their place and get back in their box.

For what it’s worth, I think RR has made some terrible decisions.

Nonsense. It implies that Rachel Reeves is only good for low level jobs blah blah blah. Which based on her performance so far, isn't unreasonable.

Do insulting names used against male politicians apply to all men ("30p Lee", "Free Gear Keir")? Of course they don't.

Rachel Reeves' woful performance as Chancellor and the lies on her CV led to her being called "Rachel from Accounts". To suggest she shouldn't suffer the consequences and associated ridicule brought on bt her failures, because it reflects on all women is absurd.

This.

I think she's got a shit job on her hands tbh, as have Labour more generally. People wanted change, but the state of the country doesn't give any room for that. So instead we've got more austerity in all but name. They're politicians, not magicians.

@Meadowfinch , aren’t there cuts to some services associated with education? As to the NHS increasing the financial burden on GP’s and associated services is hardly going to be helpful.

I miss having Boris as PM and Rishi as chancellor

This is a joke right..

Paganpentacle · 26/03/2025 14:19

sunbum · 26/03/2025 13:12

Totally agre with you. She comes across as chippy and insecure. I know many professional women with more gravitas and warmth. Like many in the Labour party she strikes me as someone that was promoted too high too quickly to serve diversity targets. As a professional woman in a very male dominated environment, this annoys me immensely as it does womem who are good at their jobs a disservice and makes it harder for us to be taken seriously.

Why does she need gravitas??

Paganpentacle · 26/03/2025 14:21

Meadowfinch · 26/03/2025 13:16

How will my household be £500 better off?

My council tax is up by 5%, my water bill has shot up (Thames Water), My mortgage rate is still high after her disastrous budget of last autumn, every service I use from chimney sweeps to car mechanics is much more expensive because of her NI hike.

The woman is talking complete rubbish. She's either a fantasist or a barefaced liar.

Probably the former, but quite possibly the latter. Roll on 2029 and we'll be rid of these idiots

OK... I'll bite.
What do you suggest she does to balance the books?
The Tories had long enough...

Geetf · 26/03/2025 14:21

WitchesCauldron · 26/03/2025 14:18

No. I think Boris was a decent PM and rishi was a better chancellor than he was PM.

Devilsmommy · 26/03/2025 14:24

ilovesooty · 26/03/2025 13:34

Whatever he was, he was totally unfit for office.

He was done for fraud so seems very politician like to me🤣

You want to be better off , you need to get people into work and you need to get work to pay.

it seems some people want a “magic money tree” but RR wants to not crash the economy - I mean it didn’t go well when Liz did that

i am impressed she sticking to her guns and strict financial boundaries

The closure of that school is nothing to do with her.

Glad to see the vote is yanbu majority at least.

So irritating, no accountability blames everyone else.

This is such bullshit. Female politicians are not immune from criticism and criticism of politicians in this country has always been quite rude and personal - think of Spitting Image for goodness sake!

She’s being criticised for being a shit chancellor and people are poking fun because she embellished her CV. Calling it misogyny diminishes the very many genuine examples of that issue.

abnerbrownsdressinggown · 26/03/2025 14:31

I really dislike the misogynistic undertones to much of the criticism about her. I really, really despise the 'Rachel from Accounts' moniker.

However, I also think she is a shit chancellor, which has nothing to do with her sex.
