To think I’m officially old now? What was your defining moment?!

That’s it. I’ve now officially hit old age. Went to a concert with my daughter this week and it was standing. I was on the fringes of a mosh pit and it was very annoying. My feet are still bruised, my hips and legs are killing me and I can’t hear anything. I’m still absolutely exhausted too. I’m 58.

When did you have your epiphany?

I went to M&S today and thought to myself they actually had some really nice bits in for a change, then realised I've probably just aged into their demographic 😩

BunnyLake · 23/03/2025 19:48

I had my children in my early 40s and when my twenty year old says something is so 2010 I don’t understand what he means. I have no idea what the cultural characteristics of the 2000s are. The 70s yes, the 80s yes, the 90s vaguely. I don’t know if that’s an age thing.

ERthree · 23/03/2025 19:50

When the very young barman in Wetherspoons called me dear.

Whattheduck · 23/03/2025 19:50

Buying elasticated jeans and trousers
Slip on shoes / boots
Going out with friends for lunch and a few drinks during the day and being back home by 6.00 pm rather than going out at night
Since my Dd started driving and moved away to university now there’s only myself and Dh here I’m in bed by about 8.30 reading or listening to a podcast
Going on Rightmove and looking what bungalows are for sale rather than houses

Leafy74 · 23/03/2025 19:38

I was watching porn last week and found myself thinking, 'That bed looks comfy.'

😂

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/03/2025 19:52

When my mother died. I was 61 and she was 92.

WantingMoreCareer · 23/03/2025 19:36

When my friends teenage daughter was going to a 90s party and asked what we wore “in the olden days”.

😂

DurbevillesGirl2 · 23/03/2025 19:53

When a young man passed me on the stairs and said “sorry lady”. I was 29!

Needlenardlenoo · 23/03/2025 19:53

I didn't like mosh pits when I was the appropriate age for them!

When I turned 50 my daughter went around for weeks saying that is a BIG number. Thanks babe!

I teach teenagers and once a student asked me how I stayed in contact with friends pre mobile phones (at university).

Me: I wrote letters.
Class: But when did you have time?!
Me: In the laundrette.
Class: ???

Mind you that was nothing compared to the time I had to admit to hitchhiking.

I’m a primary teacher and kids would sometimes call me ‘Mum’ by accident. A few years ago I got my first ‘Nan’.

No!! Mind you, small kids have NO idea about guessing ages!

I read somewhere recently (of course i can't remember where) that two dramatic periods of accelerated aging are early 40's and early 60's.

Ugh

Unfortunately this is true. I hadn't been to the GP for years, walked everywhere, fit, no ailments. Turned 60 and I seem to be there every few months with something new. Currently busy softening ear was so the audiologist can determine how much damage years in the mosh pit have done. Always looked after my teeth and now they're fucked as well.

I think that must be true. I have definitely aged faster since hitting my sixties. I saw a photo of me taken in 2017 when I was 55 and I look very good, now I look more like I could be that person’s mother.

ttcat37 · 23/03/2025 19:59

Mine was when I bought an organiser bag for my wrapping paper.

AInightingale · 23/03/2025 19:59

When I was 15, the media was making a huge fuss about the twenty-year 'Sgt Pepper' anniversary. The sixties seemed a light year away. Ditto Kennedy etc.

Now I realise that this year is the 40th anniversary of 'The Hounds of Love' and 'Meat is Murder.' Jaysus. 😱

It's at a gig where people are all standing in front of the stage. No seats.

Thank you !! 🙏

duckywoof · 23/03/2025 20:01

At age 55, when I came out of the supermarket and heard a family commenting on my unusual car. One of them, a teenage lad, said, "I've seen it around town before - an old woman drives it." I somehow managed to restrain myself from hobbling over and giving him a slap.

Iwannakeepondancing · 23/03/2025 20:02

Now… I’m 37! I am finding more grey hairs and I had to hold something away from me to read it… I used to take the piss out of my mum for this! Now I am her….

rickyrickygrimes · 23/03/2025 20:09

It feels like it happened the day I turned 50. I’m 52 now.

Nothing gets better any more. if I injure something - that’s it. I twisted my shoulder 3 years ago and it has basically hurt ever since, despite multiple physio, steroid injection etc.

And old injuries coming back as arthritis 😭 I broke two fingers about 20 years ago, and now they hurt like buggery whenever it’s cold.

oh and the overnight disappearance of collagen from my whole body. I walked past the mirror and saw myself: two nights later I saw Skeletor 😭😱. And everything sagged, even my knees ffs.

snowmichael · 23/03/2025 20:11

Completing the paperwork to start drawing one of my pensions :(

Inyournewdress · 23/03/2025 20:16

I don’t think I have ever been of an age where I could enjoy a mosh pit tbf.

Thighdentitycrisis · 23/03/2025 20:18

There wasn’t a moment, but it’s been downhill since 55

By that measure I hit it in my 20s!

Which probably holds true because I also found myself on a work trip in my mid-late 20s seeing girls happily stumbling out of clubs late at night with no tights and no coat and feeling genuinely concerned that, "they must be freezing, poor things".😅

TheSassyTraybake · 23/03/2025 20:21

Too old to stand in pubs and bars now. If I can’t get a seat I’m just going home - there’s booze there anyway!

70 here and still waiting for it!

I’m 66. Still waiting, fortunately 😂

Thepollonator · 23/03/2025 20:22

Mine was doing two big city breaks two weeks apart, all that walking nearly finished me off, im 60.
