To think I’m officially old now? What was your defining moment?!

That’s it. I’ve now officially hit old age. Went to a concert with my daughter this week and it was standing. I was on the fringes of a mosh pit and it was very annoying. My feet are still bruised, my hips and legs are killing me and I can’t hear anything. I’m still absolutely exhausted too. I’m 58.

When did you have your epiphany?

61, still waiting to feel old.

Grey pubes? 🤣

In which case that would be 41 for me 😭

MidnightMusing5 · 24/03/2025 04:18

When my elderly neighbour of 20+ years, called me Hen, instead of Chick (like he used to ) It actually stopped me in my tracks 😂

StarlightLady · 24/03/2025 04:20

Keeping my glasses on when having sex 🤓

Smallsalt · 24/03/2025 04:36

When I lost my Top C (and B and A) and had to drop to Mezzo soprano at work😳.
But I think I have always been old. Never been to a night club in my life!

We must be an old type of family. My 16 year twins went really grudgingly to a sleepover on Friday...... I mean they seriously didn't want to go. Today, cranky as fuck saying they are never going again and how much they value their "down time" and how they hate not being in their own beds and why are people bouncing about at night rather than going to sleep with a book😁

sashh · 24/03/2025 04:41

I am 58.

I was diagnosed with Arthritis at 26. I felt 'old' at about 30.

Littlewasp · 24/03/2025 05:48

When the nurse at my GP practice was saying I was due for a smear test and added "oh and this will be your last one", she forgot to add the "before you die" bit.

mjf981 · 24/03/2025 06:06

Oh I'm feeling it at 41.
I do gym classes and my flexibility is going downhill rapidly. Squats? How do the youngsters manage to get so low?!

MyMachine · 24/03/2025 06:50

Define 'old'? As individuals we'll always be 'older' than someone younger..

I held a lunch yesterday for 12 people, the youngest being 17 and the oldest 84, and the oldest and the youngest there bonded over Russian techno (the oldest hadn't listened to any Russian techno, but is really into his music, and they talked about the emotional impact of music and the 84 year old he's going to have a listen to some Russian techno, because why not? If you're into music, you're into music, so it pays to be open to new music).

Age ain't NOTHING but a number. Yes, our physicality grows longer, but our curious nature about the world? That's the thing.

You're either interested or you're not.

I've always been a contralto.

Think I might be a baritone these days...

The general comment is, 'why is your voice so deep?'.

I get mistaken for a man on the phone constantly.

I just resonate darling!

This weekend. Did my back in yesterday somehow. Can hardly move now. Reminds me of my mother! I'm 40 😭

This year at 44.I started a job in a secondary recently and I feel old as fuck.
I don't know what the "cool" words and sayings mean. also when you work in a primary you get the little ones saying things like "miss you look about 18"
It's a smack to the ego that's for sure Blush

At an art class when a chatty fellow student asked "So do you still work at all?"

I was 50, with no prospect of early retirement on the horizon.

Just the other day I was asked that question - at 70 I had no right to feel affronted but did! Grin

Well that's where you're going wrong.

Age is nothing to do with ego.

Age is merely the passage of time.

No more, no less.

If YOU conflate youth with goodness, then that's you that's doing that.

Fuck that noise.

Love your posts, I love getting older. There’s so much negativity on here about aging, it’s a beautiful cycle we go through if we are lucky enough to. Too many women on here think youth = better/beautiful, with that attitude they’re gonna feel shit for the rest of their lives. I wouldn’t be 20 again if you paid me

Blingismything · 24/03/2025 10:01

When the morning after the night before is awful. Aching, hoarse voice, feeling dreadful and taking the whole day to recover.

IcedPurple · 24/03/2025 14:59

I've just discovered a new one.

A while ago had to buy paint to have a room painted. When I bought one can, I was happy to find that there was a 10% discount that I hadn't expected. Later, while the painter was painting the room, he told me that there wouldn't be enough paint so I had to go back to the shop to get another can. This time it was full price, and when I asked if there was a discount, I was told no. I just assumed that the discount had expired and thought no more of it.

However, just now, when clearing some receipts out of my bag, I found that I had been given a 'senior citizen' discount on the first can! I'm 55 so hadn't thought I was quite there yet! So while it was nice to get a few quid knocked off the price of a can of paint, I'm slightly relieved that I was asked to pay full price next time round! I'll put it down to the first checkout guy needing to go to Specsaver's and leave it at that.

You need to do some flexibility classes. If you're struggling at 41 it's not looking good for your future. Luckily at your age you'll see very quick results.

I'm 54 and can squat very low.

rosemarble · 24/03/2025 15:10

I actually can't wait for my next birthday as I'll move up an age category in running events. I'm 50-54 now. In Sept I'll be 55 and racing against people nearly 60.
I was gutted that I turned 50 during lock down and missed the sweet spot of being at the bottom of the age cat.

Willow12345 · 23/03/2025 16:02

Me too @worrisomeasset!
That was a shock 😄 I’m 54.

Why? 54 is a perfectly reasonable age to be someone's nan

WavyRavey · 24/03/2025 17:51

I'm 33 and myself and my husband realised this year, whilst sitting in bed drinking tea and reading books together, that we used to have a huge circle of friends and go out drinking all the time, much happier now 😂

Dragonfly97 · 24/03/2025 18:00

Finding out i can get a bowl of soup & a roll for £5 in Asda cafe when I turn 60 later this year! To be honest I'm quite excited about the benefits of getting older! 😄 I've been working since I was 17, and I'm looking forward to slowing down a bit!

I went to a pharmacy today for some over counter medicine, the assistant asked me how old i was, i laughed and said 56, i think i’m old enough, she served me then she apologised and said, sorry, i had to ask as people over a certain age, we have to advise you that we can’t sell it to you and refer you to your doctor 🙈 i couldn’t bring myself to ask why and what the age limit was 😫😂 it was obvs older than the 56 as she sold it to me so i’m presuming she thought i was 😱

Yeah, this happened to me when I tried to buy canesten at age 54. Apparently if you’re over 60 they can’t sell it to you. Was mortified.

MannyTeddy · 24/03/2025 18:22

I make noises when I get up and sit down now, I'm 48. 😂

elliejjtiny · 24/03/2025 18:29

Forgot to add I went to a wedding and I was there because I am friends with the bride's mum rather than friend/cousin/sibling of the bride or groom.

Someone said it was lovely that a "nice young couple" had joined our church as there weren't any at the moment. I was about to protest that they had forgotten about dh and I, but then realised that after 20 years of marriage dh and I are no longer a nice young couple, although hopefully we are still nice even if we aren't young anymore!
