To knock on a door at 7am on a Sunday

Hi

My cat has been missing since yesterday evening and I’ve just found him up an incredibly tall tree up the road. I’ll contact an emergency tree surgeon asap. How early is it reasonable to knock on a neighbours door on a Sunday? AIBU to knock at 7am? They live a few doors up so I’ve never met them

Glad he came down. It's amazing how often the little buggers claim to be stuck somewhere, have you running around trying all sorts then make you look like an absolute idiot by casually getting themselves down/out and strolling past you, looking at you like you're daft.

Fwiw I wouldn't mind being knocked up at any time to help a trapped animal. A trapped and frightened animal is an emergency imo.

ClairDeLaLune · 23/03/2025 09:19

Oops just seen your update! Glad he’s home OP! What a pair of cuties 😻😻

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/03/2025 09:19

I'm glad he's down safely. I wouldn't mind a knock on the door at any time if an animal was in distress.

To those posters saying don't knock before 10am, I hope you're as respectful to your neighbours when it comes to cutting grass, doing DIY, letting children play outside in the summer etc!

Kendodd · 23/03/2025 09:19

With regard all the 'call the fire service' posts, they do come out to rescue animals if they can. They use these situations as training exercises and piss off, leaving cat dangling, if they get a 'real' call.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 23/03/2025 06:17

Why would you want a picture of a stranger's cat stuck in a tree?
That's a v odd request

Speak for yourself.

I've never seen a photo of a cat stuck up three storeys worth of tree. Gimmee, gimme.

Kendodd · 23/03/2025 09:21

Cats head stuck in patio table is perfect real life training for child's arm stuck.

farmlife2 · 23/03/2025 09:21

I'm glad you had a happy ending.

No-one better knock on my door at 7am on a Sunday, unless they see signs we are up or it's a real emergency (or there is an actual injured animal suffering). If I get to sleep in till 7am, it's a once in a blue moon thing that I'm so grateful for and really need.

Velmy · 23/03/2025 09:23

If someone woke me up at 7am on a Sunday about a cat up a tree, said cat would be removed from said tree by me chucking a shoe at it!

does the fire brigade really come out for cats up a tree. I thought that was just a Fireman Sam type story!

our house would be fine with a 7am knock, but it’s far to early for the majority. I would pop a letter through for them

I think they went through a period of not going out to this sort of thing, tax payers money and all that. Then somebody realised, actually, these are really useful real life training exercises, they can get the equipment out and problem solve.

If you knocked at my door at 7am you’d be told to bugger off if my house isn’t on fire and come back at 10! A cat up a tree isn’t an emergency.

God there’s some miserable souls on here this morning.
OP if there was a distressed animal in my garden you could knock on my door at any time! And I’d make you a cuppa and open some tuna to tempt poor little cat down 😊

WickWood · 23/03/2025 09:29

So glad your cat is safe and home! I have cats, you could have knocked at any hour and I wouldn't have minded, I'm shocked by a lot of the responses!

Igmum · 23/03/2025 09:29

Ohhh bless him so pleased he’s safe @CatRescueNeeded ❤️

She's not going to ask the tree surgeon to cut the tree down!

Thanks I’ve now realised this - I’m not the sharpest tool in the box!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/03/2025 09:35

If somebody had knocked at 7am, they'd have got me bleary eyed leaning out of the bedroom window - I'd have said 'Your cat? Yeah, sure, crack on' and gone back to bed.

As long as it didn't entail me having to climb said giant tree or having fire brigade/tree surgeon/steeplejack clumping around on my roof, it wouldn't make any difference to me whether it was 4am, 7am or just before lunchtime.

Agree! What’s wrong with everyone?! My kids keep me up all night AND I work full time but I’d still get up to help an animal in distress.

People are so selfish and unfriendly these days.

Zanatdy · 23/03/2025 06:15

give the fire brigade a call, they will come out for this kind of thing, if not busy obviously. I’d just call them now, poor cat.

You can’t get the water fairies out of bed for a cat!! 😉

The tree was in the front garden, they're was nothing the neighbours could usefully do to help and they would more likely frighten the cat into prematurely jumping. Why don't you see how selfish it would be to wake them up pointlessly - to what, keep OP company??? If the cat was stuck in their locked garage or shed - sure, by all means wake them. But that was not the case here.

I'm glad to hear the cat got down safely OP.

MsDitsy · 23/03/2025 09:42

No cats can't always get down on their own. I didn't video my cat rescue years ago but it was along these lines d OP, let us know how you get on 🙏

🤗 Awww, sometimes I don't think things through either! To be honest calling a tree surgeon wouldn't even enter my head. People have explained why - because they have ladders/experience of going up trees, but that thought would not have entered my head.

I would have done my best to do it with ladders, tuna, cat treats, calling my cat etc, and failing that the fire brigade. As pps have said, they don't mind as it's good practice for them

Kitty has been down a few hours now, and is snuggled up at home. 🤗

No, not before 10 am on a Sunday. YABVVU.

DaNightCreeper · 23/03/2025 09:53

LuckysDadsHat · 23/03/2025 06:00

The fire service won't come out for this, unless a danger to human life. A tree surgeon will climb the tree safely and get the cat out. They are not going to cut down the tree.

I think they will come out for this.

An indoor cat a few doors down got out and went up a tree and the local fire service came out and fetched it down in a cat carrier using their extending ladder in exchange for a cup of tea all round.

DaNightCreeper · 23/03/2025 09:54

They see it as a training exercise.

KhakiOrca · 23/03/2025 09:56

Aww glad he's home all curled up. He's probably knackered poor thing.

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2025 09:56

7am?

Jeez.

You have to ask?

No. I would not open the door. And if I found out you'd knocked at that time, I'd be less unhelpful and amenable due to your lack of consideration.
