AIBU to Think My Feet Are Betraying Me?

So, after losing 4 stone on Mounjaro (yay me!), I decided to celebrate the slightly warmer weather by slipping into my favorite ballet pumps. Except… my right one promptly fell off. I kid you not, there is an entire inch of space in it now!

I’ve been a size 7 since I was 12, so the idea that my feet have shrunk is blowing my mind. I tried the highly scientific method of drawing around them to compare, and they look the same size. My partner even tried to measure them, but she tickles me even when she’s trying not to, which resulted in me repeatedly kicking her (not on purpose, obviously).

I’m now considering going to a shoe shop to get my feet measured, but do they even do that for adults? Am I going to have to pretend I’m a very large 10-year-old? Also, if I lose more weight, will my feet continue their disappearing act, or am I doomed to be permanently lopsided?

Has anyone else experienced this, or am I just one step away from madness?

Could your ballet pumps have been stretched out/overstretched from wearing?

SkaneTos · 21/03/2025 22:52

And, of course you can get your feet measured in a shoe shop! Even if you are an adult.

Good luck!

I thought the same at first, but I tried on another pair of summer shoes, and there’s definitely too much room in my smaller foot to wear them comfortably as well.

Have you... Tried another pair of shoes? It's not really surprising though, is it? If you're heavier your feet are likely to be a bit more puffy, so when you lose weight they'll slim down.

Luddite26 · 21/03/2025 22:56

I was an 8 in my teens went to a 7 then a 6 then a 5 with weight loss. Back up to 6 now. No idea why.

Do you know who does that? Is this a Clarks thing, or do I need to find a specialist in rogue foot shrinkage? I’ve never seen adults getting their feet measured, and I’m not sure I’m ready to be the main character in that scenario!

Oh, that’s interesting! I’ve always been a size 7—whether as a slim teenager or an overweight woman in my late 30s, my feet have stayed the same. Until now, apparently!

Several years ago I lost 6 stone and my shoe size dropped from a size 7 to size 6 - 6 1/2 - depending on the make of shoe, so you are definitely not mad. Also, my head appeared to shrink as my hats were looser.

I've had mine measured when buying running shoes.

HRTQueen · 21/03/2025 23:04

I’ve lost 3 1/2 stone

and my feet have slimed down and some of my shoes are now too big 😊

100PercentFaithful · 21/03/2025 23:05

You can buy your own measures to measure feet at home.
i have one and it’s great when needing to buy kids shoes.

I wouldn’t be so surprised if both feet had shrunk, but it’s just one like my left foot got the memo and my right foot said, “Nah, I’m good.” It literally feels like a full-size difference, with an inch or so of space in my shoe! I’m shocked it hasn’t been more obvious in the boots I wear most days, but I just tried my favorite trainers, and now I can’t unsee it. My right foot is basically swimming while the left is just minding its business!

Running shops are not easy for the overweight to go into it's not so easy I'm interested in other options before I put myself in that position. It's a great suggestion though thank you ❤️

Amazing loss, well done 👏 did your feet shrink down equally or are you a bit wonky like me?

You can print off foot sizers for free from the Internet. They even have a little ruler on them so you can check that it has printed out at an accurate size. Used them all through covid to buy shoes online when my DC were growing like weeds!

Any shoe shop, because they regularly measure kid's feet.

Oh that's an amazing plan is it an amazon buy or can you recommend anywhere better?

Just Google "printable shoe size chart for adults" and there's loads of options. They do widths too.

Do they go up to a 7? I never thought about adult sizes! And if they are happy to do it too

equally
but right foot has always been slightly bigger
thank you (the wonders of Mounjaro)

ClowningArounds · 21/03/2025 23:20

My feet shrank in pregnancy. Which was surprising because everything I read said they're supposed to grow if anything. My wedding shoes for example now slip off my feet. It's bizarre and I can't really explain it. Surely the size of your feet is based on your bone structure, which shouldn't change much?! (mine wasn't related to weight loss).

Wow that's really unusual! Mine were huge they puffed up and nothing fitted. I ended up in flip flops because of them being so swollen but they went down almost immediately after having the baby.
