To think that most people who say they love “travel” just like posting about it?

You didn’t “immerse yourself in the culture,” you took selfies at a resort.

Ones who you are looking at photos of may be but you won't be looking at are the people who don't take selfies or post pictures and still love to travel.

OctopusFriend · 21/03/2025 20:37

No, I love travelling and I'm not on social media. I've never taken a selfie in my life or stayed in a "resort". I just enjoy travelling and meeting new people and seeing new things.

Thepeopleversuswork · 21/03/2025 20:38

What a ridiculously sweeping statement. Do you realise that people enjoyed travel for hundreds of years before Instagram arrived?

JenniferAnistonForReals · 21/03/2025 20:39

I think people can love travelling and enjoy sharing their photos

NoSoupForU · 21/03/2025 20:39

What about people who say they love travel, who don't take selfies at resorts.

I barely take photos at all because I'm just crap at remembering to, but I enjoy travel. Sometimes that's immersing myself in the local culture and sometimes it's parking my fat arse on a tropical beach.

Quitelikeit · 21/03/2025 20:39

It would be absolutely ridiculous if someone did what you are suggesting

Themee · 21/03/2025 20:41

I always think it’s someone who has got involved in the latest MLM. And goes to Dubai. Always Dubai.

This. Jealous much OP?

BatchCookBabe · 21/03/2025 20:43

Rude thread. I agree you sound jealous. Get over yourself!

Of course, but people also used to travel without feeling the need to broadcast every moment of it. Just saying there’s a difference between loving travel and loving the attention it brings.

So what if people broadcast every moment of it? It's nothing to do with you! Just unfriend them if it's so triggering for you. 🙄

Papyrophile · 21/03/2025 20:46

I like travelling, but I only post pictures to friends, people I know in real life. Nothing to Insta or FB.

My grandparents loved to travel. They would give slide shows of their travels on their return! 😁

Mine too!

Papyrophile · 21/03/2025 20:47

And my Dh's grandparents did the same.

DdraigGoch · 21/03/2025 20:49

I don't have Instagram and don't have Facebook so where would I be posting about it?

I've certainly never spent a holiday in a resort (well, my parents took me to Florida when I was seven, but that's all).

I would say that the time I was walking past a small holding in rural Croatia and got invited to lunch counts as "immersing myself".

It’s not about being ‘triggered’ - just an observation. There’s a difference between loving travel and loving how it looks to other people. But sure, if people want to treat their holidays like a content creation job, it’s their choice!

Of course - its not so surprising- holidays have alwsys been a status thing - it says I have time and money - and not so much about the going but to say you have been. I love planning holidays - its almost as good as actually going. In the 50s people boasted about their new fridges - now its experiences.

Exactly. THEIR choice. Nothing to do with you. You don't have to look at their photos. You are coming across as very jealous.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 21/03/2025 20:52

What kind of new fuckwittery is this? We can't even say that we like to travel now?!

I don't take selfies and I don't ever post on social media. I do love to travel and to learn about other cultures.

Titasaducksarse · 21/03/2025 20:53

Just walked through my door having had a week travelling around Tuscany...I bloody love to travel!

FaerieGodmother · 21/03/2025 20:53

I know what you mean. There are people who quietly enjoy travel and then people who just want to go to a destination to take a selfie and to say (as loudly as possible) they have been there.

It is a bit of a problem in some places now as people queue to take a selfie at beauty spots so they can plaster it over SM and encourage more people to go to that same beauty spot to queue up and so on and so on. SM has changed travel a lot I think and not always for the better

Quite! I don’t use FB.insta/x/tiktok/snapchat

I love travelling to learn about culture and history.

Cabbagefamily · 21/03/2025 20:56

No, that’s ridiculous. Everyone I know who loves to travel doesn’t post on social media at all.
