Petty neighbour moaning about me getting water on his fence

I was washing out my greenhouse yesterday and some other things and my neighbour, who was out front washing his car suddenly decided that his little fairy lights along the to of the dividing fence needed attention in the middle of washing his car.

All you could see was the top of his head above the fence, it looked hilarious.

Then he decided to speak to me, "make sure you don't fucking get water on my fence."
I just said "pathetic" and wandered into my greenhouse.

Of course, after winter the fence around my garden needs painting, which I will be doing but I won't be painting my side of his fence, which I normally do and he expects it.

Would you?

I wouldn't cut off my nose to spite my face, no.

“Good job it never fucking rains” would have been my response…

He probably has a meltdown whenever it rains.

I don’t understand why you won’t paint your side of his fence - who benefits from that?

Lol...I raise your water on a fence to one leaf from our cherry tree landing in neighbours garden and her cat might eat it....cat poos in our garden and free ranges so plenty of chance of eating leaves. .the cherry tree doesn't over hang their garden....wind at fault for the one leaf ..

He sounds rude but you really need to be the bigger person and just do a rictus grin if he said something like that.
Is there a reason why he sees to dislike you so much? Just ignore him from now on. He might be having all sorts of issues. Not that they're your fault. Hope he leaves you alone!

Why would you want one fence in your garden to look awful?

It does seem you'll only be punishing yourself, if you don't paint all of the fencing facing your garden. If you don't paint the section he owns, do you expect him to do it instead? Do you want him (or whoever he hires) trampling around in your garden?

I wouldn’t allow a nasty comment to change my behaviour. Do what you always do and ignore him.

Nasty neighbours is a really uncomfortable situation. I would be trying to de escalate this rather than fuel it.

What does he think happens when it rains?

Op was it the pressure he was concerned about. Because obviously a pressure washer is completely different to just rain water.

It must be hell over at his when it rains!

I wouldn’t want to live next door to either of you. What happened to courtesy and consideration for other people?

He could have said 'oh can you please not get water on my fence' which is stupid anhway as it rains 😂
But he chose to be a dick.
I wouldnt not paint my side and have one shitty fence side in my garden though.
