Would you consider this “having stuffed yourself all day”

I was talking to a friend and she accused me of competitive underrating, which i certainly was not doing! I referred to my eating as having stuffed my face all day and she told me to get a grip and she found what I said triggering!

What I ate:

  • Scrambled eggs (2 eggs) with veggies toasted sarnie
  • Beans on toast (2 slices)
  • Half a carton of precut pineapple
  • chicken wings and celery with hot sauce
  • a child’s plate of ravioli and homemade cheese sauce (this was on top off my dinner and purely a craving, I was full so it was very much not needed)

I went to bed uncomfortably stuffed. So to me i did “stuff my face all day”

What do you think?

They never said it wasn't. Also, throughout the whole post they clearly explain that their diet is very individual to them - not the norm, but works for them. Also, it's clearly 1 muffin and strawberry is the flavour. Also, why are you being rude?

Now if you had said you had eaten all of that and added in a 'sharing' sized bag of crisps, a huge bar of chocolate and a giant cream cake then you could have said you had stuffed your face all day!! That really does just cover your 3 meals a day plus an extra 'child sized' portion (snack) so not exactly stuffing your face. She probably felt triggered by the fact you made such a comment on what doesn't really seem like that much, when she could maybe easily eat that and more!
Chocolate is my go-to a day or so before my period and I could swim in the stuff. Thank god the craving only lasts a day or 2 though or I would be screwed!

There is no way I could eat 1600 calories minimum daily. It’s more like 1200, or less. Depends on size too surely - I’m small and couldn’t eat 1600 and more daily. 600 calories is a higher calorie meal in my opinion

Same! I have to eat around this to maintain a healthy weight and I walk minimum 5k a day, but most days 7-9km. I guess we all need different amounts of food.

Yes you need to eat that to maintain a healthy weight, and that’s fine. I’m the same.

would you describe yourself as so “stuffed” though that you couldn’t face a panini the following day?

that amount for me is consciously restricting to maintain my healthy weight. It’s not overeating in any way shape or form.

the issue is the language around food. The categorising into good and bad and linking that to whether we’re good or bad. Food being “fattening” or “slimming”, the negative connotations of someone “stuffing their face” as a weak willed, greedy pig. Implying anyone who eats the same or more is a bad person.

i’d like to know what o/p eats in a normal day if that’s overeating.

How many calories do you usually eat in a day?

No idea. I don't count calories. I weigh c.10st (working to weigh just under 10st) and am roughly 5'5", exercise moderately (bell ringing, dancing, swimming, walking - have a dog - and gardening when I must) and take a UK size 14. At my age - 70s - I care more about not looking gaunt than looking very slim (though the food I eat conforms to a diet that loses me c.1lb a week) and I do not expect to be the weight I was in my twenties, when I was what is now a size 4/6 (then 10/12). I buy clothes that flatter the figure I now have (i.e. hips and bust about equal, with a waist).

It is astonishing to me that so many posters feel able to definitively state how much food would make another person feel too full!

It's not about what makes her feel full. It's about describing that fullness as 'stuffing herself all day' while specifically referencing details like 'child sized portion'.

I can see why her friend was rolling her eyes.

Get a grip, someone has seriously been triggered however how are you suppose to know if one hasn't mentioned in conversation how are you suppose to understand, your not we are not established enough to mind read.
You will be stuffed after that I personally have an ED but I don't go off at people with this when they tell me they've had XYZ for their day, just say we'll I'm glad you enjoyed it, and change topic of convo, or say I feel uneasy, again depends on the person really.

It probably depends what you normally eat. It's 4 small meals and a fruit snack which is probably similar to 2 small meals and a large dinner. Both are normal amounts to eat. Stuffing your face would be that but with lots of snacks and extras. However, if you are normally very disciplined with food e.g. 3 small meals and low carbon/ No snacks then I am sure that did make you feel full.

That lot would be more like me restricting my intake for me.....but that's why I am slightly overweight.

Definitely sounds like a very unhealthy relationship with food especially as you're saying you couldn't eat a panini the next day.

4 slices of bread isnt evil as much as you keep trying yo vilify it.

You didnt eat 2 meals. Eating the kids leftovers (child sized portion) isnt a meal.
Chicken and celery is also not a balanced meal.
Counting calories and acting as if a one off high calorie day is bad isnt normal. And no what you have described is not very high calories for a main meal.
The fact you keep mentioning you're 5'2 and usually exercise and keep track of food and exercise on an app is very telling and the constant trying to vilify your choices on here when people are telling you its not excessive.

Then she later admits that she was actually hungry at the lunch date and would have eaten a tuna salad if it was available.. so instead of saying that she didn't fancy a panini, she decided to put on the performance (for her friends benefit?) that she was WAY TOO FULL from the day before to eat a single thing.

It's performative, tedious bollocks and her friend was right to call her out on it IMO, sometimes eye rolling just doesn't cut it.

Made a performance? She was asked by a close friend why she didn’t want her usual panini and she answered. That’s not a performance.

The disparaging of OP and other moderate eaters on this thread provides quite a bit of insight into who REALLY has the issues with food. And it ain’t her.

one food is “nice” and “light”. The other is “big” “starchy” “greasy”. Positive terms for one, negative for the other.

it’s a fucking panini. A sandwich. Probably not much difference nutritionally or calorie wise than a tuna nicoise with dressing. Slightly more carbs in the sandwich, more saturated fat in the salad. I looked up costa- 450 cals in tuna nicoise, 463 in a halloumi panini.

if you fancy a salad fine. If you fancy a panini fine. But no need to present one as a “good” choice and one as “bad”. On some arbitrary judgement too, not even based on sound nutrition. It’s food.

if o/p didn’t want a panini and would have preferred the tuna salad, fine. But why not say that. “Oh I would have had the tuna salad but they don’t have it, and I don’t feel like a panini”. Simple. Why make a big performance about how absolutely “stuffed” she was the previous day? When in reality she didn’t overeat.

It's not even true though - she didn't want the panini because she was too full to eat, it's just she didn't fancy a panini and there wasn't anything else that she wanted to eat at the cafe. She ate when she got home instead. So she just made a big song and dance about how 'stuffed' she was for the benefit (or otherwise) of her friend.

I'm slim/a moderate eater btw. I watch my own weight quite closely but I don't go on about it because people who do are really annoying, and it can be hurtful to people who struggle with their weight (some of whom are people I love very much).

I’d already started to respond to this when I saw that @Whycanineverthinkofone had said it all.

You’re making a simple panini sound like some sort of Man vs Food challenge. It’s a perfectly ordinary lunch.

Your attitude to food Is really odd sounds like some foods disgust you which is a real shame it must really mess with your head that some people eat toasted bread and cheese!

Funny, I don't recall saying anything about the relative calories or nutriional value of either a panini or salade nicoise.

That's exactly what I meant above about people becoming paranoid and reading value judgments into perfectly ordinary conversations. Please don't project your issues onto my statements.

My reference was to aesthetics and relating to the OP's lack of appetite for yet another sandwich. When one has had a surfeit of starch, a cool, crisp, veggie salad (we don't know if she uses dressing or not; I generally do not) is more tempting than yet more starch and grease. Which is a characteristic of panini, I know as I had one last month!

The language you used, yes, I can see why she felt the way she did. You keep saying “she asked” and yes, She asked what you ate. After you highlighted how much you had apparently over-eaten. Which I’m guessing she didn’t really believe.

Again, OP said a child’s portion because it was her child’s leftovers! If she’d just said ‘some ravioli’ then everyone would presume she meant an adult’s plateful. 🙄
