To think leaving UK is the best Option now

LeavinUK · 17/03/2025 10:51

We are thinking of leaving UK now to move to Dubai or USA. We have two young children who are in nursery, not in School yet and one will start school next year.
The reasons are the state of UK. Looking at the state of NHS, the waits are so long if you ever have to go to A&E, you can access better healthcare of you have insurance in any other country. Another reason is the ever increasing tax, we both work full time and I have the potential to earn six figures but I am staying at a flexible job to earn under 6 figures and I am forced to not get a promotion or switching to High paying jobs by the fact that I won't be eligible for 30 funded hours of Childcare which I I think is very unfair on hard working people who want to progress in career while having young children. UK doesn't feels like a family friendly country overall.
We also don't feel safe now going out to city centre etc which have become a ghost town and so much of illegal immigrants loitering around and so much increase in crimes.
Our friends who moved to Dubai are able to afford full time house help, nanny and a driver while earning similar to ourselves. While, here we are struggling with young kids and paying huge taxes. I have family in USA who are earning big bucks and paying much less taxes and being able to save and invest better for retirement while we will be working till 68 potentially 70 which is totally insane.
AIBU to feel leaving UK is the best option now and have you made a move or considering moving?

Don't know about the states, but I would advise against Dubai. I had to be there for work, the best conditions I have ever experienced financially and accommodation-wise. But the weather!!!!!! The weather is disgusting, there is no other way about it. Talk to expats who came back about the weather - if that is OK by you, then it is a different story.

Purplebunnie · 17/03/2025 11:23

Am I getting this right? You are not going for better paid jobs because then you won't get your 30 free hours? But if you had a better paid job you might actually be better off even without the 30 free hours??

If I am correct then cutting off nose to spite face or have I misunderstood?

LeavinUK · 17/03/2025 11:05

We will be only making the move after we get job offers there. We work in tech industry where salaries are high especially in Dubai and California.
Feel free to mock as much as you like but most city centres are becoming ghost towns now and really rough dodgy looking men loitering around and I have never felt safe going alone with young DC even on day times. There have been reports of such men following women and attempts of rape etc.

Ahh yes, the instant conclusion that a “dodgy” looking man is automatically an illegal immigrant and the answer is clearly to become an immigrant in the Middle East, a bastion of women’s rights.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 17/03/2025 11:25

So, you're worried about immigrants in this country but want to go and be an immigrant in another country?

Right......

jewelcase · 17/03/2025 11:25

cardibach · 17/03/2025 11:21

Odd. I’ve never felt unsafe in the daytime and rarely at night in a range of cities including London. Where have you seen/heard these reports? I mean, yes, rape and assault obviously happen more than they should but you are still more likely to be attacked by a man you know than some random on the high street in the daytime (or nighttime actually).

This.

The U.K. is absolutely fine in the vast majority of places the vast majority of the time.

Of course there are problems. And perhaps in the OP’s specific situation their life would be better elsewhere. But given their financial situation and ability to even consider emigrating, the UK is able to provide a brilliant life. I honestly don’t get how well off middle class people in the U.K. can be so whiny and can think that other countries are generally much better to live in than this one. It simply isn’t true.

Mellap · 17/03/2025 11:25

Yes it sounds like Dubai would be a better option for you. If you're keen on slavery, it's a good place to be a slave master, which is frowned upon in England. I think it would be better all round if you went there.

Boopear · 17/03/2025 11:27

Sorry, I really can’t believe that you earn to 6 figures. Even in tech which still needs a reasonable level of articulation. It is ‘illusion’ not delusion. Their not there. Are you a native English speaker?

neonjumper · 17/03/2025 11:28

how do you know they’re illegal immigrants? Do you ask them to show documentation to prove they’re not ? Just curious.

isthismylifenow · 17/03/2025 11:28

LeavinUK · 17/03/2025 11:20

I am in no delusion to think everything will be perfect and most likely I will miss UK but we are struggling even with good jobs and me not being able to progress in my career just because I don't want to become high earner due to the tax implications and end of any childcare hours funded by government. The taxes are only going to go up but very little improvement in the public services, I don't see when this will get better.

You are young and if you don't go have an adventure now, when will you do it?

Just go with your eyes open and, be flexible. It will not be home from home.

It would be better to go for a visit first though if you can.

Bye 👋

sesquipedalian · 17/03/2025 11:28

OP, if your main reason for leaving is so you can earn over £100,000, then why don’t you simply go for career progression and put more money into your pension? That way, you get to keep your nursery hours. TBH, I’m surprised you don’t know that. If, however, you feel you would have a better quality if life abroad, then go.

Swiftie1878 · 17/03/2025 11:28

Where are you from originally?

Fluffyc1ouds · 17/03/2025 11:29

Would you consider moving elsewhere in the UK? I feel so safe where I live and would happily walk around at night on my own. I love where I live but sometimes consider if I'd ever move abroad. USA and Dubai certainly wouldn't be on my list though, it sounds terrible.

arethereanyleftatall · 17/03/2025 11:29

TLDR - I don’t give a shit about who I exploit to make my own life better. Shall I move to be able to do that?

They really need to scrap the childcare cliff edge.

Two years ago it was bad, but it was just 15 hours and tax free childcare at age 3 you lost.

As of September it’s 30 free hours from 9 months and the tax free childcare.

So not only is the loss greater, it’s more likely to involve two kids at once.

This means you lose money unless you earn a lot over £100k/ are forced to put anything up to £160k into a pension (if you can).

I am surrounded by people moving to part time because of this, it’s stupid and a massive disincentive.

I’m sorry but your issue with becoming a high earner is loosing benefits the U.K (disgracefully because look at how much it costs etc…) is kindly giving to you.
All that to go somewhere where you won’t get any support at all??

Im really confused about your arguments I have to say

This is the reason. Thanks for stating that.

Australia! 🇦🇺

Davros · 17/03/2025 11:31

Whenever I read about good healthcare in the USA it always seems to be attached to a job. That puts pressure on people to keep working, come what may, and what about people who are not working, or can’t work, with a healthcare package?
I worked for a private Harley Street consultant for a while, there are very high numbers of people who travel to London from other countries to access the private healthcare, many from Arab countries. You just have to hang round Marylebone high street and you see the hordes who are here for the private healthcare (good, it’s one of our “exports”). I believe that some private hospitals do now offer A&E, it is becoming more usual.

Odras · 17/03/2025 11:32

I’m not sure if people move to the US for healthcare.

Why don’t you get private insurance in the UK?

Dubai is very marmite I think. I have friends living there that love it. I found it utterly soulless and vacuous never mind the human rights issues. It depends what is important to you in life I suppose.

LeavinUK · 17/03/2025 11:34

Many posters are mocking me when I stated about dodgy looking men who are illegal immigrants. Two of the biggest hotels in our city centre have been used by home office to house the illegal immigrants coming on boats. This was in the news and has been opposed by residents but councils aren't able to do anything. Now, you see most of them hanging around in the city centre. This is in west midlands. You can mock people for stating the truth until it comes at your doorstep.

OP posts:
DaffodilsGalore · 17/03/2025 11:36

My only comment about your move

If you feel your life will be better somewhere else, go ahead.
Please remember you’ll then become an immigrant. Just like any other immigrant in the U.K. You won’t be better than them. Just someone else who is seeking a better life financially than where they currently live.

But more to the point , seeing you’re leaving because of taxes, poor NHS etc… please ensure that you are protecting yourself to the hilt from any ‘life troubles’. Things like getting ill with cancer, getting disabled, loosing your job etc etc…

Because I think that going away for the reasons you mention to just be coming back home whilst thinking ‘it’s ok. If things go to shit, well just move back to the U.K. to be cared for’ is highly hypocritical.

So, you'd like to move somewhere with no asylum seekers/migrants?
That's going to be tough, but a gated compound would certainly solve your problems.

PeppyTealDuck · 17/03/2025 11:38

You sound like you get your information about loitering illegal immigrants from online networks. How about you have a walk around your town? Or the nearest nice town if yours isn’t wealthy enough for you?

You have lots of choices. You can work part time, spend more time with your children and claim free childcare. Or you can go for the better paid job and pay for childcare for a few years. It is not perfect but hardly the end of the world.

DaffodilsGalore · 17/03/2025 11:39

@LeavinUK peoole arriving in boats are not illegal immigrants. Theyre asylum seekers. Which is the only legal route to get asylum.

Illegal immigrants are people who came to the U.K. on a tourist visa and stayed. Those who didn’t renew their visa (or it was rejected), over stay etc etc.
These are illegal immigrants.
