To think singles walking holidays are full of older people?

Mumsday · 15/03/2025 09:39

I’m early 40s, single and would like to do a walking holiday abroad where I’ll meet people my own age (male and female).

Am I wrong to think this type of holiday usually attracts much older people? I’m sure id meet lovely people but I don’t really want to spend the week with people in their 60s and 70s.

Solo holidays for younger people are often ‘adventure’ holidays (ie. bungee jumping/rafting etc) and I don’t really fancy that.

Has anyone successfully gone on a singles holiday for people my age? If so, what travel company?

i am not the annoyed one so i cannot respond

She never elaborated on her annoyance? You never asked why?

HelenWheels · 16/03/2025 16:28

but i dont need to explain it here, quite an unnecessary argument

LittleBigHead · 16/03/2025 16:29

Basically, you’re looking for a walking holiday which is a dating opportunity. Why not say that?

No old women required.

One can always rely on MN for the ageism.

Does anyone want to walk with you @MadKittenWoman ?

Was that necessary?

F*ing hell, I should think it was because she had to pay extra, not that mysterious is it

Exactly. It's interesting to see how invested and confrontational some posters insist on being.

I agree with you on the ageism, but that wasn't the point I was making. I thought that comment was unnecessarily unkind and implied that the poster in question was so unpleasant no one would seek out her company.

Try HF Holidays. I know three people who have met their partners through this company, all different ages.

It does have a reputation for standing for 'husbands found'

Westfacing · 16/03/2025 17:08

My sons are in their 40s - an organised walking holiday is something that they and their contemporaries just don't do.

I am looking for a solo holiday where I can meet people my own age. That is not ageism.

I’ve reported your post because for various reasons I find it highly offensive.

Thanks so much for all the recommendations - I’m now leaving the thread as I think it’s been derailed by some nasty people.

Fair enough. It was a nasty jib at another poster.

But if @Mumsday had titled her post "What are good holiday companies who arrange walking holidays for people in their 40s?" it might not have read so rudely. It would have been positive, not a negative "I don't want to mix with old people."

And she wouldn't have got so frustrated in trying to explain herself. Of course it's not unreasonable to want to mix with people your own age. And it's fair enough to want to walk with a party of mixed-sex people. But the OP's starting point was: "I don't want to holiday with old people & particularly old women."

She might reflect on the fact that one day she will be "old." I hope she does get old - it's miles better than the alternative!

Try Large Outdoors - despite what pp have said - plenty of men in their 30s and 40s on the trips I've been on. Especially the New Year events.

You're still being deliberately provocative I see.

This is odd

if you see my posts i came on genuinely interested in recs. and then asked a question and another poster swore at me!

TorroFerney · 16/03/2025 17:58

When we trekked in Nepal I was in a couple and there were two other couples, everyone else was on their own or in a same sex pair ie friends. So even on a non singles trek it was more singles. Age wise I’d say between 30 and 60.

Ketchupbroc · 16/03/2025 18:01

What company @TorroFerney and would you recommend?
