Why would you think it is okay to put dog shit in someone's bin?

I've recently moved into a new house. It's not in the nicest area of the city, but it could be worse. I've had a bit of a rough time of it recently and am finding adjusting to my new life difficult which is probably affecting my resilience and ability to let things go.

Our bins are collected fortnightly on the day I happen to work late. Every sodding bin day at least one arsehole chucks dog shit in it after they're emptied. This week, two arseholes have done it and both bags have burst so, yet again, I have a filthy stinking bin to clean out.

I'm angry and upset, both about the shit and the fact it's really getting to me. I can't take the bins in straight away because I have to be at work!

Dog poo bags are the responsibility of the dog owner. If they can’t be bothered to locate one of the numerous appropriate bins or take it home to bury it in the garden then perhaps they should be fined heavily.

I'm not the OP but this is a photo I have just taken of our bin. I only cleaned it out a couple of weeks ago. I think you can see in the pic, but the top right corner is a whole mound of slushy dog poo that is not in a bag. Either someone lobbed in a bag or two untied or the bags split and it's leaked out everywhere. Someone also since yesterday has seen fit to chuck a plant pot in.

So yes, people really are that filthy and disgusting and I am the one who has to clean it up. ETA- my image is under review so hope it appears soon

Can't believe you admitted to doing this. You're in the wrong here.

actually i think that is fair enough

Bins are dirty and smelly anyway,

Not all bins are 'dirty and smelly' in the way you mean - depends on who is using it and how. We have a waste disposal unit so have no wet vegetable matter or rotting meat/fish in the bin at all. Anything that might be seriously smelly gets double bagged. We take care to ensure the bin is not filled with stuff likely to attract flies or maggots. So someone chucking in a bag of dog poo is actually making a bin that is not full of any faecal matter or anything that smelly immediately 100 times more dirty and smelly.

With the recycling, we take care to rinse/wash all empty food cartoons and leave them to air dry before putting them in the recycling. So the recyling bin is always dry and as clean as possible.

People look after things differently.

The poster is saying that they put it In bins that were outside awaiting on collection on bin day

calm down

Perfectly calm, thanks. I just think, like many, many others on this thread, that the poster is in the wrong.

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. I’d much rather someone used my bin than left it in the street. Bins stink anyway.

MantleStatue · 15/03/2025 12:59

Did you see my photo up thread as to what this means in reality?

Better than it being on the pavement. This doesn’t bother me at all. I would rather someone used our bin than left it on the pavement for someone to walk in. However I am also one of those people who doesn’t get huffy about visitors/trades people using my toilets either for shock horror wee-ing or poo-ing in (ie for the purpose a toilet was designed for!!).
However I have a dog and use one of those pick up pouch things to put all bagged waste in whilst on walks and then always use my bin at home. I would never assume all people thought like me. I wish more people would use on dog walks.

What a strange comparison.

I expect any visitor to my home - including workmen - to be able to use our bathroom. I don't expect to find excrement in my bin, however, since that's not its purpose. There are plenty of public bins available for dog waste. Dog owners don't need to chuck the waste into the bins (or gardens as often happens round here) of others.

The fact that some dog owners dispose of their dog's waste as soon as they can instead of carrying it until they can dispose of it at home or in a municipal bin marked for the purpose rather underlines the fact that their main concern is their own convenience.

I suppose it depends on where you live. Our landfill bins are emptied once a fortnight and there's no odour problem provided the contents are properly bagged. (Cans, etc go into the green bin and we're asked to rinse them out.) It's a bit different when someone chucks a bag of dog excrement into the mix.
