Why would you think it is okay to put dog shit in someone's bin?

I've recently moved into a new house. It's not in the nicest area of the city, but it could be worse. I've had a bit of a rough time of it recently and am finding adjusting to my new life difficult which is probably affecting my resilience and ability to let things go.

Our bins are collected fortnightly on the day I happen to work late. Every sodding bin day at least one arsehole chucks dog shit in it after they're emptied. This week, two arseholes have done it and both bags have burst so, yet again, I have a filthy stinking bin to clean out.

I'm angry and upset, both about the shit and the fact it's really getting to me. I can't take the bins in straight away because I have to be at work!

I find it really weird how many people really care about this. It's a bin, for rubbish. An outside bin. It should not have any impact on your life, I doubt id even notice if somebody put it in mine as I'm not out checking the contents of my bin and it's emptied by the council. If your bin was completely full preventing you from using it or, as the op said if the poo isn't in bags I could understand it but usually one sealed bag of poo, I see no issue.

IdasFlowers · 14/03/2025 14:57

I'd hate that. I've seen people on local Facebook groups justify their skankiness by saying the council own the bins so they're allowed to do it. Grim people

buttercupcake · 14/03/2025 15:01

I absolutely hate this. The bizarre thing is that I have a dog, but still don’t want another dogs crap in my bin! As a dog owner I would never put my rubbish in someone else bin.

HelenWheels · 14/03/2025 15:02

i wouldnt do it, it is so rude

Darkclothes · 14/03/2025 15:04

@ByPeachPeer ...if the poo isn't in bags I could understand...

You clearly missed that part where the poo bags split into the OP's empty bin!!!

BigDahliaFan · 14/03/2025 15:04

I came back from holiday to find our neighbours had filled up our green waste bin with black bin liners full of rubbish. I was a bit jet lagged and narky - she wondered if it was someone else's rubbish - I had to point out there were empty boxes with her name and address on....

The OP says the bags have burst meaning she has to clean the bin. I don't have a dog and would absolutely notice if someone put dog shit in my bin

TinklySnail · 14/03/2025 15:13

The council owns the bin. In my area they actively encourage using ‘any bin’ .
If it bothers you I’d move it somewhere the public can’t get to.
I don’t use other people’s bins and will carry it home. I totally understand the irritation it causes.

Oncewornballgown · 14/03/2025 15:13

YANBU I have dogs and wouldn’t do this. My dogs, therefore, their mess is for me to pick up and responsibly dispose of, in either my own bin, or a proper dog waste bin. They generally do their business at home but not always. I would not use someone else’s bin or a normal public waste bin as I consider it antisocial to do so.
No one likes walking around with full poo bags but you can get containers to keep them in until appropriate disposal is available.

Oncewornballgown · 14/03/2025 15:15

I have also had people dump them into my bin so I bring the bin in as quickly as I can.

Same. Sometimes I find wrappers and bits in my bin that aren't mine but I'd rather them in there than on the street, same with dog poo. I also didn't realise people clean their rubbish bins, especially not every few weeks. It's a receptacle for things that are literally rotting, of course it might smell a bit but just don't hang around next to it?

Ooh, I will investigate the gravity locks further! Thank you!

I would sticker it and gravity lock it personally. I can imagine that people will dump their shit on top of it if they can't open it due to a gravity lock.

Flossflower · 14/03/2025 15:18

Someone did this to my sister. She saw them, ran out of her house, turned the bin upside down and chased after the woman with the bag. She then threw the bag of dog poo into the woman’s bag and told her to take it home. We are quite militant about dog poo in my family.
why can’t people just take it home with them? Surely if you own a dog take some responsibility.
We now have to pay for our own bins. The argument that they are council property does not work.

caramac04 · 14/03/2025 15:22

Disgusting. I would never put my dogs crap into someone else’s bin. It only goes in mine prior to collection as I don’t want bags splitting in my bin.

Joystir59 · 14/03/2025 15:27

It wouldn't bother me if bagged and tied. You know that you don't own the bin right? It belongs to the local council.

Joystir59 · 14/03/2025 15:28

I have two dogs. We keep a separate smaller bin just for bagged dog poos, which only gets emptied into the general waste just before collection.

shellyleppard · 14/03/2025 15:30

@ArtfulBear could your neighbour kindly move your bin for you??

Yes it belongs to the local council, but it is provided to the householder for their domestic waste only.

Noshowlomo · 14/03/2025 15:33

Because dog owners assume they can leave their dog shit all over the pavement.. so why not put it in someone’s bin for it to split and stink 😡

DinoLil · 14/03/2025 15:34

My bin was emptied this morning. I have a massive McDonald's collection of wrappers, drink cartons and general crap in it already. Private garden, near town centre. Have had dog shit in bags too.
I can't be bothered to get excited about it. Rather in my bin than left on the street.

Aaron95 · 14/03/2025 15:37

Why do you clean out your bin?

It's a bin. It lives outside.

MajorCarolDanvers · 14/03/2025 15:39

It’s a bin. Wouldn’t bother me. It’s what bins are for.

I personally don't want my bin to smell - many people have to have them near their windows.

Also, I sometimes have to remove sacks from the bin and drive them to the tip if the bin collection is disrupted.

The interior of my bin is clean because I only put bagged litter in it. I use decent thick bin liners so that there's no splitting.

I think it's pretty reasonable to want to have it clean and for dog shit fuckers to keep away from something that's nothing to do with them.

It's a pretty normal thing to do:
