Supermarket staff wearing a keffiyeh

I saw a member of staff wearing a keffiyeh today in Sainsbury’s. Do you think it’s a bit too political for a member of staff to be wearing, whilst wearing their work uniform?

How do you know it was a keffiyeh? It could have been a Kurdish puşi scarf or the Arab scarf which looks similar to keffiyeh. Either way- mind your own business.

I'm embarrassed for you. Why make this thread ?

Because OP is a goady fucker that’s why.

Sunnyside4 · 08/03/2025 08:09

Up to them and as long as their employers don't mind, then I either get on and do my shopping in there or walk away.

ilovemoney · 08/03/2025 08:09

Loads of people in the uk think this is a symbol of freedom and not supporting of rapist baby killing Hamas. They are so desperate to virtue signal. People in this country are so woefully uninformed about the Middle East and this particular conflict.

Remind me, did that war start with the Ukrainians attacking 15 Russian villages, murdering or abducting up to a quarter of the residents of those villages, burning people alive in their homes and beating them to death with farming tools?

October 7th was horrible and indefensible. But the conflict started long long before this.

Yes.

And how many lives did you save by doing this?

You're so very smart aren't you 😒
Some of us really care and want to show we do, contrary to what the media want people to think

It was clearly not cultural. It was political in this case.

It's a scarf. MYOB

Bromptotoo · 08/03/2025 08:17

@Alpaccas how can you possibly tell that it's worn for political purposes?

If it really bothers you report your concerns to the manager.

What genocide would that be? There has been no genocide of Palestinians

A lot of people would disagree with that statement.
Even before the current conflict water supplies to Palestinians were extremely restricted and I never understood why the western world ignored this when action should have been taken.

TempestTost · 08/03/2025 01:38

So... you were making statement about a serious and very controversial political conflict.

How is that not political?

Its not controversial to be against ethnic cleansing over decades and decades. Bizarre that anyone would say that not wanting bombs to be dropped on civilian areas with mostly children is 'political' But I guess Palestinians are subhuman to many people and they don't even see the humanity there

Bloody hell it’s too early in the morning for this.

AuntAgathaGregson · 08/03/2025 08:03

Would you object to a supermarket worker wearing a turban or a kippah?

The uniform policy is readable online. I doubt a scarf is within the guidelines, but other items are.

Did the disgraceful, unrelentingly cruel treatment of Palestinians begin on 7th October 2023?

Jacquettes · 08/03/2025 08:33

I’m amazed that people give a shit how other people dress. I’m nearing 70 and there are much more important things in life to be concerned about. I’d rather live and let live.

Comedycook · 08/03/2025 08:35

Coolasfeck · 08/03/2025 07:08

There’s a major effort from some quarters to paint all Palestinians as subhuman terrorists, and to try and make everyone forget about them. This way it will make it easier to kill them all off with minimal resistance.

It won’t work.

What "quarters" are trying to do this as you say?

Serpentstooth · 08/03/2025 08:35

Any comments to make on the sacked Reform MP? He sounds right up your street OP. Write to him and leave MN alone.

Bepo77 · 08/03/2025 08:35

Ultimately OP I guess we all carry the trauma of the Israel-Gaza conflict differently, and if yours is struggling to buy a can of beans in Sainsbury’s when you see someone wearing a scarf then fair enough

scorpiogirly · 07/03/2025 23:29

I wonder if many people on this thread would classify Hamas as a terrorist organisation? Genuinely curious.

I would absolutely class Hamas as a terrorist organisation. They are abhorrent and the 7th October attacks on Israel were horrific.

I wouldn't really care about someone wearing a keffiyeh in Tesco though. I don't see it as a vote of support for terrorists.

thiswilloutme · 08/03/2025 08:54

ButchCassidysSundanceKid · 07/03/2025 23:16

It'll be because it's Ramadan. I work in a college and on Fridays many of the lads wear it in preparation for Friday prayers, but not the rest of the week. You're reading far too much into it as being a "political" statement and are making assumptions based on prejudice, be that intentional or subconscious.

You are very naive if you think they are not wearing it as a political statement.

If they are wearing it as part of their religious observance then this is even more worrying - they are being radicalised before your eyes.

Girasoli · 08/03/2025 08:58

White people with British accents can be Middle Eastern too.

Itisbetter · 08/03/2025 09:00

I've been seeing more young women wearing keffiyeh performatively. Including a couple at an event about Israeli history, put it on very ostentatiously after the event had begun.

OMG performative AND ostentatious!!!!! The absolute exhibitionists
