To not sleep with my boyfriend because he had norovirus?

Letskeepthisbetweenus · 05/03/2025 16:19

My BF caught norovirus last week, d and v. His last synptoms were at the weekend - d on Saturday and v on Friday.

I am going away for three weeks tomorrow morning to Indonesia for work, and I am taking two planes and a boat. Tonight will be the last night we see each other before the three week gap We really want to sleep together but I just don’t want to catch it, especially as I am about to travel.

what do you think are the chances?

It is an awful sickness. 3 weeks isn't long really,
or 3 weeks with the first week travelling with norovirus.. no chance I would. You'll be back home before you know it.

Crunchymum · 05/03/2025 16:26

He should be long clear now? 48h from last incident was Monday?

That said I am emetophobic so I'd be waiting a while longer.

Letskeepthisbetweenus · 05/03/2025 16:27

Last diarrhoea was Saturday, last vomiting was Friday. So we are past 48 hours but I still really don’t want to get it

My last bout with Noro put me in the hospital so I would not be seeing him at all. He could still be shedding the virus.

HardenYourHeart · 05/03/2025 16:46

Technically, 24 hours after the symptoms are gone should be fine. However, what's the rush? You'll be back in three weeks and he will likely still feel rough recovering from noro.

CalicoPusscat · 05/03/2025 16:55

Well I wouldn't want to sleep with me last week when I had it. And yes it does take a few days to start to recover.

He should rest and get plenty of fluids and start eating again, if he hasn't already. You're not away for long.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 05/03/2025 17:04

The 48 hours is a minimum not an absolute rule and I believe people can be contagious for longer. If you do see him I'd meet out somewhere , not go to his, as think contaminated surfaces etc can remain infectious for longer

Tagyoureit · 05/03/2025 17:07

God good no!! How positively icky!!

Imagine he does pass it on to you and it hits mid flight?? 🤢🤢

Not worth the risk

You're not gone that long

beadystar · 05/03/2025 17:14

You'll be fine for three weeks. I wouldn't see him. Imagine V&D on a plane. Hard pass.

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/03/2025 17:16

If you've been spending time with him, touching one another, touching the same things he's touched, then you're at risk anyway. I'd have totally avoided him, not just not slept with him.

Have you seen him in this time at all ?
Have you been near each other kissed ! Or is this just about sex

Sandsnake · 05/03/2025 17:26

I wouldn’t risk it. Noro is unbelievably contagious and the 48 hour thing is a rule of thumb and not precise. My parents once caught noro from us four days after we were last sick / had diarrhoea! There’s obviously a chance that you’ve already picked it up from him but I’d still try to minimise risk by avoiding close physical contact contact. Good luck - hope you don’t get it!

TumbledTussocks · 05/03/2025 17:28

I would wait and see him when you get back

If you're going round anyway and he's still contagious you'll get it anyway.

Overitallnow · 05/03/2025 17:29

Not a chance I would.

Didimum · 05/03/2025 17:32

I think you’re being way past over-cautious. You’re 120hrs past last symptom.

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/03/2025 17:33

Has he scrubbed every surface and washed his sheets?

I wouldn't it would ruin your holiday if you got it!

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/03/2025 17:34

After 48 hours he should be fine.

WhatMe123 · 05/03/2025 17:39

I wouldn't I'd assume he's still shedding virus when he goes the loo. They say 48 hours but it can be much longer than this. It's not been too long at all op

gamerchick · 05/03/2025 17:41

He'll probably be alright. But it can live on surfaces for ages, weeks in water. If he can give his touch points and bathroom a good clean, change his bed etc then it'll probably be alright.

BruisedNeckMeat · 05/03/2025 17:58

Not worth risking it.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 05/03/2025 18:00

I wouldn't. Not worth the risk. Noro can hang around for two weeks.

OkayLetMeKnowHowItGoes · 05/03/2025 18:06

Would you regret not having nookie more vs shitting yourself on a plane?

Simple choice to me.

HelmholtzWatson · 05/03/2025 18:10

If you're that worried, why see him at all?

sixtyandfabulousofcourse · 05/03/2025 18:17

Just had it and it took me 4 days before I felt right again. best not take chances as I understand where you are going is high risk anyway
