I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

"Come and watch me make the most basic of crafts while telling me how much you admire me, and I gently patronise you"

Really awful.

But I wonder how she will handle the situation when he passes away. She'll need good PR to handle that surely. (I know it's not the source of the topic so please don't)

She will be theatrical in her grief no doubt publicly and speed dial her therapist. She will talk of happy memories and gloss over the rest. Late at night the demons will come, and she might well unravel out of public view as her carefully constructed ‘reality’ comes crashing down.

That will be nothing compared to the day of reckoning when her children demand to know why they have been denied a family on both sides (except Doria) and have no cousins or relatives at all beyond one person.

If you watch it in a normal way expecting it to be what MM intends it is utter drivel but if you watch Spinal Tap style it is hilarious.

Edited

The first time I saw Spinal Tap, I was told it was ''real''...I found it outrageous and also hysterically funny - when I heard it was a spoof, I was so disappointed.

''Don't touch my guitars... this amp goes up to 11''

The dimensions of the Stonehenge monument for a stage display..I did think ''Why didn't they check?!''

Yes that time will come, a cooking programme with the royal children would have been a success, when they see they're royal cousins - they will either be thankful for being spared from being a public spectacle, or resentful that they did not grow up with a large extended family - just like Harry did.

muhlezur · 05/03/2025 12:03

I actually think from her own kitchen and house would have been much more relatable, the snapshots we have seen of her kitchen look dated and look like it needs an overhaul, yes, there would have been viewers who would have sniggered at it, but I think that would have been more watchable, with comments about how they really need to update the kitchen but would find it too disruptive while the kids are young, which a lot of us could relate to, discussing the kind of upgrades she is dreaming of etc, etc.

The inviting friends to a rented house just emphasises how inauthentic she is and how her life really is a carousel of smoke and mirrors.

I can’t comment as I haven’t seen it. However was it ever about entertainment and more about publicity for Netflix?
They have certainly got their moneys worth in the UK, it’s been all over the papers/social media. That sort of advertising would have cost a fortune.
Can anyone in the US say if it’s the same over there?

There's commentary in the Hollywood-focused tabloids. Nothing in the main media that I've seen. I heard that she wasn't doing a publicity tour, and unless she sits for interviews she's not likely to hit the morning TV shows or really any TV shows. And pretty much every American already knows about Netflix so I don't see any publicity value for them.

What and you don't think this happens in lots of separated families or families where people have fallen out with one side of their family?

Fourecks · 05/03/2025 12:09

friendlycat · 05/03/2025 09:55

I think the content is extremely poor and some of the things she suggests are so basic.

She would have been better focusing on fashion, yoga well being etc.

I think she is quite savvy to focus on homewares/lifestyle. Meghan is doing this to earn money, and I imagine it's easier to make money from these types of products than yoga or wellbeing. If someone buys her jam or edible flowers out of curiosity and likes them, they will probably buy them again.

Putting aside the ethics of profiting from yoga, how do you make money off it? You could sell branded yoga mats and clothing I guess, but they are more occasional purchases. Same with wellbeing. Fashion is a bit different but I think it's much harder to be successful in.

TheWombatleague · 05/03/2025 12:13

I haven't watched it, but it can't be any worse than Kirsty Allsop making Christmas decorations can it?

There are thousands of skilled crafters on YouTube, does anybody need this?

aCatCalledFawkes · 05/03/2025 12:15

I've watched it and I think it's pretty harmless. All quite basic and some of it very obvious, a bit patronising may bebut I just can't get worked up about Meghan.

I'm surprised this brings out such strong opinions still even after they left 5yrs ago and there are so many worse things in the world going on at the moment. At least she has a job and they are earning money like they said they would.

BustingBaoBun · 05/03/2025 12:15

SerafinasGoose · 05/03/2025 11:58

She will likely fail at everything she does from now onwards, irrespective of the quality of the content. The media has made sure of that.

No one's reputation could survive such a relentless onslaught of online and media bullying, the like of which I've never witnessed before in my lifetime. It's been going on for years. Meghan Markle isn't the first, but the onslaught against her is the worst and is long past uncomfortable to witness.

The news media had everyone convinced Diana was at best an exhibitionist and at worst a neurotic (or even perhaps psychotic). The only other close parallel of our times that I can think of is Charlene of Monacco. Women who piss off the establishment in some way by daring to step out of turn are either dismissed as crazy, or as pathological liars whose every word has been so picked apart by the media that they're bound to discover some contradictory points. There's a long-standing precedent for it.

Hence half the objections people are coming up with upthread are merely salacious media gossip without one shred of evidence to back them up, then claiming it's the woman's 'own behaviour' that's instigated their relentless tirade of dislike. Don't these people ever get bored?

I feel genuinely sorry for Markle. And Charlene Wittstock. Nothing on earth would induce me to live in the kind of gilded cages they inhabit, not for all the money in the world.

Edited

I love your post. How dare anyone female step out of line and walk away from the revered royal family. How dare anyone need time out from an adulterous marriage like Charlene.

I admire Meghan greatly for not giving up and keeping on. After all, the tirade of negativity, abuse, name calling and sneering is on a level never seen before. I bet you every single member of the Royal family is very grateful the media has her as a punchbag because they can get on with their shady activities with the media not picking up on it.

I said on another thread... Sarah (divorced 30 years from a disgraced member of the RF but living on a Royal estate) has recently done some hook up with a meditation app and is pushing people on IG to sign up and get one year's free! And she was at a signing one of her dreadful Mills & Boon and crowned a simpering fan with a plastic tiara and put it on IG. As Duchess of York. Can anyone even begin to imagine if Meghan had done this?

She is a scapegoat for them all. Good on her with this lifestyle series, I hope it works out for her, she deserves it.

I like a bit of pap which is what it is, so plan to watch some when I've got the time.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 05/03/2025 12:16

I'm ambivalent towards Meghan. She's a famous actress (formerly) of a show I never watched, now she's married to the King of England's son who will never inherit the crown (unless something really, really bad happens), and yeah, that is it. I haven't seen it, and I doubt it will be my thing. I'd rather be watching Netflix's true crime documentaries or dramas over a lifestyle show anyway. Horses for courses. Good luck to her if it's a hit, if not, ah well, never mind.

dottiehens · 05/03/2025 12:16

I won’t see it as not a fan but she would have some backers and that is fair enough. ( We all know of some that defend her and will follow her whatever she does)
Actions have consequences. I wish them the best but it is obvious they are struggling as the majority do not care anymore.

Except what you have said is not true. She does have contact with other relatives, including some of the in-law family.

But I am also a child who only had contact with a few people from my extended family because they are mainly serious criminals. My single mum wanted to keep me well away from them, so I have not seen them since I was a baby. And its fine. Not everyone has a loving functional family. For some people distancing from family is looking after their children.

The point the poster was getting at was how the children will react to having this 'smoke and mirrors' upbringing - and don't start me on the surrogacy rumours - Harry had is parentage questioned for many years - and grew up with lots of family - the children are being set up for a massive media circus in time.

Crazybaby123 · 05/03/2025 12:25

I would have watched a show if she did one about fashion, shoes, style. Living in LA. Restaurants etc.
I can't stand this weird instagram playbook show. If i want to watch a cooking show then I prefer a proper chef. The other stuff like making a candle, boring to watch someone do it and not actually hard to need a show about how to melt wax.

Wagered incorrectly. I haven’t seen it and have no plans to. I think you’re unreasonable for posting TV show reviews in AIBU when there are at least three other sections it would be better suited to and there’s already another thread on the show with 100+ posts if you do need to post your views on AIBU. Your post wasn’t so insightful it needed its own post…

👏👏

She should have done something about fashion, beauty and yoga, maybe with Doria. Would have watched that and MM knows that stuff. It's all very Trad Wife.

Yes something like this would have been interesting.

Instead we got a complete and utter borefest. I managed 15 minutes before turning off.

If it's a lifestyle blog she shouldn't be doing it on netflix, that's not what netflix is for

Eh? Since when can you not have televised lifestyle shows?!
On Netflix or anywhere? There's plenty of lifestyle type shows on there.
What a load of rubbish lol

CreationNat1on · 05/03/2025 12:40

International Women's Day is coming up this week, and we have a bunch of vipers who have nothing better to do than stoop over a cauldron of sensationalised hate.

Sad.

LipglossAlly · 05/03/2025 12:41

I am really enjoying the show so far, as any other show it may not be everyone' s cup of tea, but for the love of God, I can't understand why a wholesome lifestyle/cooking show would inspire this amount of vitriol/ criticism.

Just get to show you that the issue is not Meghan Markle per se or what she does and doesn't do. There is just something deeply wrong and broken in the societies we live in if so many people feel comfortable with partaking in this kind of relentless bullying year after years.

I am not surprised that the Trumps of the world are rising to power.

Anyway on a lighter note, the content is lovely and I am also open to buying some of her products. I think there are many people like me that enjoy this type of content and will literally buy into her brand. I feel these latest business ventures have a good chance at being extremely successful.
