Would you judge this in someone’s house?

I’m currently re-decorating parts of my house. I’ve come across a website that sells prints for the walls and I’ve found some I really like;

This house is full of love, laughter, and a little bit of what the fuck.

Pardon the mess, I decided not to give a shit today.

If you’re happy and you know it, it’s your meds!

As you can probably tell, our house is already a little bit eccentric with its decor… but would you judge someone for having prints like that on the wall with children living in the house or am I just overthinking it? 😅

That’s not genuine eccentricity though is it, it’s an attempt at it. People fall in to eccentric ways they don’t buy it.

Yes I would if there are ever going to be kids in the house.

Unless she sends them to live with the grandparents. I'll assume her kids are going to be in the house quite a lot unless she keeps them in the shed, then she has much bigger fish to fry than a few posters!!

@Rainbows678 they made me smile, but I wouldn't have them in a house with kids. It's not so much the swearing in the first one as the general attitude and the second one just comes across as a bit mean to people with mental health issues.

Loloj · 28/02/2025 12:51

Sorry but yes I would judge you - awful and embarrassing to have those types of phrases on the wall - kids or no kids. It’s far from quirky and eccentric!

Bingbopboomboomboombopbam · 28/02/2025 12:52

I wouldn’t really judge it but generally I cringe at swearing posters.

The meds one is funny tho.

KnickerFolder · 28/02/2025 12:53

Possible exceptions for genuinely comical and/or creative artwork prints - by actual artists. For example “Live, Laugh, Toaster Bath”

A client has a fantastic gallery wall in their office with some limited edition prints and small original works by household name artists. She also has one of those really naff “witty” metal plaques you get in tourist tat shops that one of her DC bought for her on a school trip. People always ask who it is by or pontificate about how clever it is as they think it is some kind of ironic piece by a YBA or something 😂

Autumn1990 · 28/02/2025 12:53

I wouldn’t have it on my walls but wouldn’t judge and it wouldn’t bother m if my kids saw it, they all learn about swear words at some point.

Nellsbell · 28/02/2025 12:55

No it’s your house! You do you! If they judge you don’t invite them back! Simple!

SnoopySantaPaws · 28/02/2025 12:57

What's the name of the website???

OldieButBaddie · 28/02/2025 13:02

I bought this for dd during lockdown when she was doing her A levels
FUCKING GREAT – They Made This

So no, wouldn't judge 😃

Cucy · 28/02/2025 13:08

I am typically what MNers would call a ‘cool’ wife/mum.

I do a lot of things that most MNers wouldn’t dream of and would say I’m the opposite of a prude.

But I personally would judge you having swear words in your home with kids.

At the very least it’s sending mixed signals about what is wrong and right, which is a basic level of parenting.

I also think it’s a bit cringe.

I saw such a cool poster that had their middle finger up but as a parent it would be embarrassing if I bought it for myself.
I know I had posters like that as a teen and it was fine but it would have been awful if my mum had it.

I usually don’t care what peoples decor is like and I think the wackier the better! But if you’re worried about being judged then I would steer clear of this one.

Cherrysoup · 28/02/2025 13:10

Naff and totally 80s. Wouldn't want to see stuff like that on a wall if my kids were going there, tbh.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/02/2025 13:10

No need for swear words on the wall. Not a good message to give yours, or anyone else's kids.

iluwn · 28/02/2025 13:14

I don't think they are appropriate if you have children or if you are likely to have children there to visit.
Visitors might not want their children to see them and then either ask what the words are or think it's ok to write swear words anywhere they like.

AuntAgathaGregson · 28/02/2025 13:15

I dislike all forms of word art anyway. If you can't express what you want to say through a painting or print, it's still a waste of time putting it up in words.

Come on. You don't really know what "most MNErs wouldn't dream of." Your post screams of needing to be special.

The swears wouldn't bother me OP, I think they just sound a bit rubbish, but if they make you chuckle why not?

I bet it's temu 🙊

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 28/02/2025 13:19

They are awful, whether or not you've got DC. Totally tacky.

WonderingAboutThus · 28/02/2025 13:24

I would judge, not because of the swear words but because of the negativity in the underlying views these sentences imply and represent. Edgy-sarcastic is not a nice mode to live your live in (except at ages 13-16 say) and I think it's not fair on the kids.

It's giving trying-too-hard-to-be-hip.

Yellowhammer09 · 28/02/2025 13:25

I would judge you, and I'd judge you even more if you had kids in the house 😆

RoWTok · 28/02/2025 13:26

It sounds like you trying to be eccentric and quirky, but you’re not.

My friend has poop art (her words) and prints in her bathrooms. In her main bathroom above the toilet one that says ‘take a seat, make yourself comfortable’ and another ‘ah flush it flush it real good’. Above the sink ‘wash ya hands ya filthy animal’. In her en-suite she has one with cats and it says ‘are you pooping’

Awful just awful

BunnyLake · 28/02/2025 13:27

I would judge because of the bad language rather than the (naff) sentiments.

TheBuddha · 28/02/2025 13:27

Yes, I wouldn't say anything though. I would aim to not give a shit about what anyone thinks and decorate your house how you wish.

The prints sound like something one of those 'I'm mad me' people (who are usually tediously dull) have - trying too hard to be 'fun'.

Applesonthelawn · 28/02/2025 13:29

I don't know about "judge" but I certainly think they are awful. I dislike any naff messaging as decor, but particularly these because they are just overly aggressive self-justification. Really horrible actually. It's almost like you have to give yourself an excuse every day. If you don't want to clean/tidy, then don't, but be comfortable enough with your choices not to have to defend yourself with naff decor.

MrsAvocet · 28/02/2025 13:29

I'd think they were very tacky but I wouldn't say anything.
