DLA Waiting times 2025

Good morning, I am new to this.
I applied for Dla for my daughter in October 2024. Scan date 16th October 2024.
I caved in and called yesterday, told that someone has been assigned to her case now. Does anyone have a rough idea or similar situation as to how long a decision takes after being told this?

hi everyone my daughters dla needs to be renewed by october does anyone know when i should be recieving the forms thankyou

My child’s renewal date was middle of May and I received the renewal forms in January. So around 4 months before.

Due to awaiting some evidence and waiting for someone to fill in the section of the form that someone who knows him well could fill in, I didn’t send it off until early March.

I got confirmation about a week before the renewal date that it had been accepted and the award would carry on - he was actually awarded a higher rate for the care component .
Hope that helps :)

I sent about 4 doctors/paediatricians letters in.

I honestly thought it wouldn’t be enough. I think the award was based on what I’d written in the form and what the other person (a teacher at his school) had written.

Good luck.

It should be I sent my sons off 2/3 weeks before it ran out and it was renewed five days before it ran out.

Iwanttobreakfree2 · 26/05/2025 10:16

@mumtumok I think there should still be enough time. They don't tend to look at forms until shortly before a claim is due to expire. They received my DS's completed renewal paperwork at the beginning of February. His claim is due to expire on 31st May and I am still awaiting a decision.

mumtumok · 26/05/2025 10:19

@Iwanttobreakfree2 ah thank you so much , it all confuses me and now I’ve found a letter that says it’s until the 29/07/25 so I may have got it muddled , but just in case thought I should check. So renewals gets scanned pretty much straight away I’m guessing ? And as long as they receive it before end date payments carry on till decision is made am I correct ?

I would assume so.

Iwanttobreakfree2 · 26/05/2025 10:37

@mumtumok I think they will prioritise the processing of your son's claim if they see it expires soon. I don't think payments will continue after a claim has just expired though, if it is still awaiting a decision from the DWP. I would be pleased to be proven wrong about this, but it's probably safer to assume that payments won't continue until the claim is renewed.

Renewals are usually done pretty close to the end date.

New claims are taking up to 25 weeks but I heard back in around 18 weeks last time.

I heard back in 16 weeks about 2 months ago.
