To find the gym attire of some women completely inappropriate?

Apolo90 · 24/02/2025 19:39

I went to the gym with a work colleague after work; it’s the first time I’ve been to that particular one.

I was taken aback by the number of women wearing either the tightest leggings imaginable, barely there sports bra’s and/or shorts which wouldn’t look out of place on the beach they were that sparse.

Is this really appropriate? I’m far from a prude but I like to exercise without being forced to stare at someone’s bottom squeezed into impossibly tight clothing.

Maybe I’m just getting old.

If I wear a loose top, it rides up when I'm going fucking mountain climbers or burpees or whatever. I'm not actually comfortable just wearing a sports bra, although if I were 20 years younger and had firmer skin, I totally would.

Tight nike pro leggings are the best running leggings I've ever had. They don't budge, so I'm but running one handed while trying to yank my leggings up.

Running in warmer weather in loose shorts chafed so badly I had to walk the remaining 5k home like John Wayne. I wear cycling shorts now.

If it's any consolation, dh wears tight clothes when he goes running. I look better though.

@Blueuggboots It's not grim. You just don't like it.

You not liking it doesn't make it grim, unacceptable, inappropriate or anything else.

It's purely your opinion. Which is worth very little to anyone other than yourself.

???? This is a public discussion forum where OP has literally ASKED for opinions on this! @blueuggboots has given her opinion. Yet here you are attacking her because you disagree with it! Who do you think you are?!?

@Blueuggboots I agree with you, very grim.

I love my booty shorts, they look fab 😁

I would love to know how you're meant to avoid noticing people like this. For those of you saying you shouldn't be looking at them, where is the person meant to look? And why does the person wearing inappropriate clothing have the right to look everywhere but the other people don't?

👍

Signing out now as I’m finding this thread really depressing. Women generally have a hard enough time dealing with shitty, misogynistic behaviour from men, but to read it on here from women, towards other women, about something as inconsequential as gym clothes is particularly depressing. There’s a lot of anger on here and it’s not healthy.

I hate those leggings that go up the bum they look disgusting! Should be banned -

Agreed! They really don’t look as nice as they think they do! 🤢 There's a bloody good reason regular trousers and leggings don't do that

No-one is talking about me walking down the road with my breasts or bum out. The conversation is about women's gym wear.

Because they may potentially be appreciating your body in a sexual way.

Women are not on this earth for men to appreciate their bodies in a sexual way. It's time for change and men must learn to act like decent human beings and not leer at women when they have not been invited to do so.

And no one is saying that if a woman wears provocative clothing it's ok for men to attack her.

You are correct, I did not say that. I asked the other poster if she blamed the victim if she was raped because she was wearing a short skirt.

Your off your rocker! I'm saying no more

Tortielady · 24/02/2025 21:32

I don't really notice what people are wearing at the gym. I'm too busy trying to get through my routine, oh and grousing about the older gent who think the hip flexer is a good spot for a chat with his mates, the young gent who decides to message his gf, bf, Mum, whoever while his bum is parked on a machine 3 other people want etc. What said bum is clad in, isn't as important to me as getting him to move it!

"Sorry but you seem to be saying women have every right to dress in a sexual way but they should complain if they are viewed in a sexual way?"

This is the same misogynistic crap that tells women they shouldn't breastfeed in public or wear bikinis at the beach. Or that if a woman is wearing certain clothing she is automatically consenting to sex aka rape. Gym clothing is not sexual clothing. It's gym wear being worn in a gym. Your perception of it is sexual because womens bodies are overly sexualised by men who don't take accountability for themselves and who feel entitled to sexual gratification.

Whose talking about not breastfeeding in public? Of course women should be able to breastfeed in public. It's actually disturbing the way society has sexualised women's breasts to the extent that breastfeeding in public is seen as controversial.
I don't think I've heard anyone talk about bikini's on a beach being controversial for many many years. Definitely superceded by the awful thong swimwear at the swimming pool debate.
I think putting all the blame on men for sexualising women when some women go out of their way to sexualise themselves is actually unfair.

Eyerollexpert · 24/02/2025 21:33

My son 31 was in the sauna at the gym, two men were complaining to each other about how skimpy the females clothing was in the gym and they were.made to look at them and it was immoral and they should be told to cover up. My son rightly put them straight, women can wear what they like in this country and if they can't control themselves and not oggle then they should f off home.
A similar aged female was also in the sauna and applaud him. I am so proud I brought up such a great man💕

Come on, most of the angry responses are not from people agreeing with the op.

Grapewrath · 24/02/2025 21:35

The women in my gym all look great- happy, healthy and enjoying their work out. I wear leggings and a bra top when it’s warm. Find it weird that someone would care tbh.
Maybe go to a gym where it’s just you- they do have ones which are really quiet and privately owned.

Screamingabdabz · 24/02/2025 21:35

AnxiouslyAwaitingSpring · 24/02/2025 21:27

There's no need to be so nasty. Just because you disagree with something somebody says, doesn't mean you need to make childish comments like this. It's called a discussion forum so OP is entitled to start a discussion on it.

Agree. There seems to be a lot of defensive and aggressive (and borderline ageist) comments on this thread. Maybe it’s all that pent up gym adrenaline?

Of course people can wear what they like but when people of either sex wear revealing clothes in a venue where it’s not entirely appropriate, that’s going to make some people uncomfortable.

I’m fat, old and baggy so like to position myself on the machines that block the entire line of sight from the sweaty grunters doing weights to the attractive young woman they’re trying to eye up. I see it as my own secret subversive form of sisterhood.

BoundaryGirl3939 · 24/02/2025 21:40

I agree. Sometimes I don't know where to look.

aylis · 24/02/2025 21:40

Tight leggings? Aren't leggings supposed to be tight, especially sports leggings.

Ultimately people are getting sweaty and they should wear what's comfortable and appropriate, which is sportswear.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 24/02/2025 21:40

You’d surely expire in my gym OP.

There’s a sign specifically for the men. It reads ‘No posing in front of this mirror. No one wants to see your pants’ 😂

Redpeach · 24/02/2025 21:42

Stai · 24/02/2025 21:28

Well I’d advise you not to go to the gym in Angel, plenty of men in tight shorts, leggings, tight tops, crop tops and sometimes no tops!

And scrunch bums?

AnxiouslyAwaitingSpring · 24/02/2025 21:43

I think there's a lot of people missing the point here. OP can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think she was referring to regular Lycra shorts/leggings and crop tops? I think she's referring to those horrendous up-the-bum leggings and mesh-like transparent monstrosities??

Sowhatistheendgame · 24/02/2025 21:43

I can’t really find it in myself to care what other people wear.
Is it any worse to be staring at a sweaty arse in leggings/shorts rather than joggers?
It’s still an arse. Belonging to someone working out. Meh, I have other things to worry about.

Yes exactly my thought too

No one objects in 2025 to women wearing leggings to work out in FFS. It's this new style craze where they go up the bum... honestly if the leggings or shorts are in a flesh colour, they honestly do look like they're naked.

Cotswoldmama · 24/02/2025 21:45

I think each to there own. I get really sweaty so usually wear a sports bra and running tights or shorts. I drip with sweat after a workout, as others have said something baggy would then cling to me and be an extra layer. And maybe it's a bit vain but I have a great body from working out at the gym so why would I want to hide it?

TheseCalmSeas · 24/02/2025 21:47

Sounds like appropriate clothing for the gym 🤷🏻‍♀️

Redpeach · 24/02/2025 21:50

This faux 'i don't notice what people wear', doesn't really match up with the billion dollar sports wear industry

WashYourDamnRice · 24/02/2025 21:51

It's anti-women to not be ok with seeing the shape of random fanny flaps in the wild. Shame on you.
If you're a woman, you're jealous. If you're a man, you're a misogynist.

Lycra going up the bum crack? Really?
