to think more negative effects will come out from Ozempic use?

Just read that the 30 year old singer Avery has been diagnosed with osteoporosis due to Ozempic use. Looks like this could be the start of many conditions coming out.

I know Ozempic is incredibly helpful for a lot of people but losing weight but then having osteoporosis does not seem worth it.

AIBU?

Yep, Mose miracle weigh loss solutions are just glorified eating disorders

No they're not

SilenceInside · 22/02/2025 19:54

@SergeantDawkins it wasn't healthy for me to be morbidly obese and it isn't healthy for me to be obese, as I am now. I don't want to be thin, I want to be a healthy weight. Because that's healthier than being overweight, obese or morbidly obese.

Pebbles16 · 22/02/2025 20:04

I will also point out (as I do ad infinitum on these threads) that Ozempic is a licensed drug for people with diabetes. It is NOT licensed for weightloss. The drugs for weightloss are Wegovy and Mounjaro.
No one should be using Ozempic for weightloss as it is depriving people with diabetes from accessing their medication.

Just because people don't post about it here does not mean they are not concerned about other prescription medication. I have been concerned about many other prescription medicine also.

Oh really? How thoughtful of you. Which medicines in particular have you had concerns about? Can you give us a run down of the names and why you’re concerned?

SwingTheMonkey · 22/02/2025 20:14

Twiglets1 · 22/02/2025 17:32

I got it from a private pharmacy in the UK for weight loss. I’m not diabetic.

You won’t be given it again. It’s no longer licensed for weight loss alone. Only type 2 diabetes.

SilenceInside · 22/02/2025 20:14

@Pebbles16 how would people be getting Ozempic, legally, for weight loss if it isn't prescribed for it? What is the route for them getting it and harming diabetics in the process?

Nobody in the UK is legitimately prescribed ozempic for weight loss. Anywhere. It’s only available for diabetics.

SilenceInside · 22/02/2025 20:18

I wonder what @Pebbles16 is referring to then? How are people accessing Ozempic in the UK and harming diabetics if it's not available, and people are prescribed Wegovy for weight loss instead?

Its prescribed off label, people are being and will be given it.

Whats your beef here?

Erm… I don’t have any ‘beef’. Just fed up with hearing all of the horror stories of ‘ozempic’ when very, very few of those using WLI are using ozempic.

What an odd thing to pick up on in a thread full of inaccuracies and fallacies.

SilenceInside · 22/02/2025 20:37

@soupyspoon so Ozempic is being prescribed off label for weight loss, instead of Wegovy which is the exact same medication, which is intended for weight loss. Presumably prescribed by a private doctor? Why would they prescribe Ozempic rather than Wegovy in that situation?

MontagueLeo · 22/02/2025 20:39

Ozempic and Wegovy are the same drug - both are brand names of Semaglutide.

Ozempic is the branded preparation marketed for the management of diabetes, while Wegovy is marketed for the management of obesity. However, it’s exactly the same stuff

Evilspiritgin · 22/02/2025 19:40

I think like nearly everything else , bad side effects will come out at some point

i was on holiday in the us last year and they were showing adverts for wegovy and the list of side effects and drug interactions was amazing

That’s because US advertising regulations require a lot of information when drugs are advertised. You’d see that for Lemsip (US equivalent) if you watched enough ads.

If any of these threads is started in good faith, it reveals far more about the (wilful?) ignorance of people on the potential side effects of all drugs than anything else. Read the information leaflets, people.

Much of the stuff people are buying off hairdressers etc is not actually the genuine drug. There are huge, huge problems with fake WL drugs worldwide, even sneaking into reputable supply chains in the US. So far there’s no evidence that I know of that this is happening with UK stocks being distributed by reputable pharmacists.

Dueanamechange2025 · 22/02/2025 20:41

Twiglets1 · 22/02/2025 17:10

Only one person made that comment about the magic wand @Dueanamechange2025 & it certainly wasn’t me. I think most people on this thread aren’t minimising how hard it is to lose weight. And having tried Ozempic myself, I know it’s not an easy fix.

Sorry I wasn’t saying it was you. But the comment comes up on every thread about the risks. That’s why people struggle to hold a proper conversation about the risks.

But its just a name for the active ingredient, marketing. Its the same thing

The horror stories are bullshit as we all know but people are using both Ozempic and Wegovy depending on what their prescriber uses. Simple as that.

Aintnobodygottime · 22/02/2025 20:46

Here you go - Sudafed. IABU to worry that people will give themselves convulsions taking this dangerous medicine when they could just blow their nose more often and sit in a steamy room?

Ive no idea, who cares, its only the name of the prescription they are using.

I dont know why threads like this fall into hostility and quibbles about why people are using this or that. Its the same stuff. Is there such consternation about whether someone is using plain old ibruprophen or sparkly neurophen. Who cares, it does the same job.

Im on an anti epileptic medication, although Im not epileptic, you want to see the side effects of that one!!

Farellyo · 22/02/2025 20:52

Maybe, maybe not. If it's prescribed responsibly for weight loss within the guidelines etc then the risk benefit as the person will be obese if prescribed it will still be in favour of the medication as obesity has so many health risks and implications.
