Do your job we don't all have printers

Am so sick and tired of being expected to do people's jobs for them. Just got an email asking me to print out this 30 page contract thingy saying I need to print it and sign it and get it witnessed and post it back within 5 days. Why can't they post it to me? I don't mind signing things electronically but it will cost me a lot to get all that printed . It's just happening more and more not just printing but everything you try and do you have to download an app or fill in loads and loads of stuff and just so time consuming. Anyone else finding this.

Depends what the contract is for really. If you don’t have a printer can you contact them and tell them that and ask them to send you a copy in the post?

UnderHisEeyore · 20/02/2025 13:24

Yes! I am always amazed that companies expect homes to all have printers, even when they are possibly the most notorious bit of "tech" for breaking down. I have bought 5 printers and none have lasted more than 2 years and I simply refuse to buy another and have the space taken up and cost of ink. I feel the same about it as you - just another way to pass on the cost and work to the customer.

Yes!!! I have had 2 printers both broken now and I'm not buying another one.

I'm having an ongoing "discussion" with them. It's not their policy to send out printed versions

I guess the question is who will this contract benefit? If you are going to get something out of it, then you'll have to jump through the hoop.

It is faster to print out yourself if you can, as it removes the 5 day delay due to Royal Mail unreliability.

The assumption that everyone owns a printer and can afford the ink to print out lengthy documents is so frustrating. If they want a hard copy signed, they should send it in the post.

I can't even go to my local library to print documents as it's closed down due to LA cuts.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 20/02/2025 13:49

Can they not use DocuSign?

INeedAnotherName · 20/02/2025 13:49

I agree with you. It's got to the point where I don't give out an email so they have to post the documents. The most recent one was a conveyancing solicitor and EA.

Also I can't read those large documents properly on my phone and I'm not buying a laptop to read and then a printer 😡

Yes. It is possible. I believe there are weird things called phones that can be used.

You could always tell them it's not your policy to print docs 😆

Velmy · 20/02/2025 13:54

Ask them to send it via DocuSign.

whirlyhead · 20/02/2025 13:54

What I usually do is just print out the signature page and send that back signed and witnessed. Then they can print the other pages out if they need them.

Whatisthisbs · 20/02/2025 13:55

Definitely agree with you on this OP. Half my working week is taken up chasing other people to do their jobs, and the other half is navigating technology 🙄

Throughthebluebells · 20/02/2025 13:55

I have been told that HMRC have been insisting on printed signed documents. It is crazy when so many people don't have printers now. They really need to move into the modern world!

Ha ha that was also included! I'm supposed to book a 30 min meeting. Well no as their office is 300 miles away 🙈it's a tenancy for my dd if anyone is wondering

NameChangedAgainn · 20/02/2025 13:58

Ask on your local Facebook group to see if anyone can print it for you? I've done this for neighbours who don't have a printer.
At work I send out documents by email for clients to print and sign, but if they ask I will post a hardcopy out to them so it's very annoying that this company won't do that for you!

Flamingoknees · 20/02/2025 14:00

Secondary schools expect this, for some homework too. Very annnoying. I do have a printer, but these days it isn't used enough, so the cartridges dry up, and they are expensive, so I don't bother any more.

That's what I do and they oblige.

I do intend to get a printer eventually.

Unorganisedchaos2 · 20/02/2025 14:12

Not quite the same but the people we brought our house from had a printer (connected to a desktop ala 1998) but refused to print anything as that's what they were paying the solicitors for 😅

It must have added a few weeks to the whole process but part of me admired them
