Not farting in front of DH

Not really an AIBU but I love hearing what others think!

Have been with my DH for 18 years and have never intentionally farted in front of him. I mean I know it’s impossible to hold every fart in but he’s never actually heard one! If I need to I would go in another room or be discreet. My mum and sister are the same and a couple of friends. Also my DH is the same and won’t in front of me unless he does by mistake!

I know it’s natural and everyone does it but I’d never want to endure someone’s else’s fart nor make them endure mine! It hardly makes you attractive does it! That being said I wouldn’t fart in front of anyone… I mean maybe the dog!

what do you think?!

Your attraction to each other can't be that strong if things like this would jeopardise it!

some of us have standards

I tried to but while pregnant with DS1, after 6 montha if marriage, I had awful morning flatulence it woke me and DH up i was so mortified. And I experinced it with both pregnancies nothing I could do. So now I don'tt give a hoot. Not intentional bit if it slips it slips.

Me too. I would rather not do it infront of him but I had awful problems with it in pregnancy and am less bothered if I do it accidentally these days. DH has more self-control these days so we've sort of met in the middle.

We fart with freedom in this house

I actually laughed out loud!

ketch12 · 16/02/2025 21:11

Christ, we are terrible. Our two year old says 'my farted' frequently as she lets one go as often as we do. We are fully comfortable with each other and excuse ourselves, but no barriers in that way.

You have misunderstood my post.

Obviously clients and partners are different relationship and it makes no sense to say that if you do something with one you must also do it with the other.

However my ex thought it would be impolite for him to fart in front of clients so he did not do it. It bothered me that he could not be show me, his partner, whose feelings I would expect to be at least as important to him as his clients’ feelings, the same courtesy.

As for the rest of my life, I cope just fine, thanks.
Having a certain preference about farting doesn’t mean my life is dysfunctional lol. And with my ex, it wasn’t a “little fart”, it was frequent, loud and noxious farting (that he could mysteriously keep under control during work hours).

I'm with you here. I wouldn't fart at work and neither would he, because it's not nice for other people. We offer each other the same level of respect.

I am the same op, would never intentionally fart in front of anyone, forcing someone else to breath in air that has just been in your arse seems rude to me.

Agree it's horrible, you should leave the room.

onlyhereforthefood · 16/02/2025 21:12

I lasted two months then couldn't hold it any more. My now husband lasted four dates!

Now we high 5 farts and rate them out of 10!

Lookwhoitisnae · 16/02/2025 21:13

This is the house of fart. I'm from a long line of healthy farters and my kids are also regular farters. Its a natural bodily function that simply means your gut is healthy and working. DH and I both fart a lot!
My mum does wee squeaky ones while she walks! She actually went to the Dr as dad thought she farted too much. Several checks later, she trumped out the Dr's with the verdict of a very healthy bowel!
It is natural and I would explode if I didnt fart regularly! Also I'm dreadfully immature as is my DH and we giggle when we fart!

I let rip, but so does he. I'm puerile and find it hilarious.
On Valentine's morning I wanted coffee in bed so I farted loudly to wake him. up. When he only stirred, I farted again and that got him properly awake, and I got my coffee.

Thirteenblackcat · 16/02/2025 21:13

If I can hold it in until I reach the bathroom then I will. Don’t need to impose that on anyone

cgk · 16/02/2025 21:15

I have enough to do without having to monitor farts. We all just fart.

Anotherparkingthread · 16/02/2025 21:15

Urgh, idk about women but there's a certain type of man who farts freely and they are not the type of men I would ever want to be friends with let alone lovers. Thank god I've got higher standards lol

Apologies for being crude but I've had his cock in my mouth. He needs to be able to put up with the odd fart.

That’s gross too

TheHangrySwan · 16/02/2025 21:18

I have IBS…if I left the room every time I farted, I’d never see my husband again.

discdiscsnap · 16/02/2025 21:20

Yes same never intentionally farted in front of dh and vice versa. Occasionally we have heard or smelt each others farts but we aim to avoid. Don't poo in front of each other either or burp.

It's nice to have a bit of mystery.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/02/2025 20:42

Just a thought. I gave up wheat a couple of years ago. I simply don't need to clench any more. It has been transformative. The eczema disappeared, the bloating disappeared, the aches and pains disappeared - all along with the flatulence.

O this is interesting… was it only wheat you gave up?
or perhaps any type of grain?

(I have both eczema and bloating recently)

BusySquid · 16/02/2025 21:21

I personally find them hilarious. If we manage to make someone gip from the smell - even better. The only rule we have is no farting when someone is eating or during any sexy time. That's rude and a turn off.

I'd rather let it out then have stomachache.

Spacehoppersrule · 16/02/2025 21:21

He has held my hair whilst I vomited, seen me actually crap myself (not intentionally, I had horrific campylobacter 🤦‍♀️) and helped me wash and dress after a major operation. I’ve done similar for him (he had campylobacter at the same time - that was……fun 🤮) A fart is nothing in this house!

mynameisjeff20 · 16/02/2025 21:22

No we fart proudly and I think it’s super weird to be in a long term relationship and not hear each other fart!! Do you not bath while the other is on the loo?! We do that all the time 🤣

ILoveQuicheandCheese · 16/02/2025 21:22

I do have a habit of farting when I cough or sneeze. All mystery gone! Any suggestions in how I can stop doing this gratefully received.

MrsJoanDanvers · 16/02/2025 21:23

If any man lifted his leg and farted in front of me, I’d never have sex with them again. We don’t fart, pee or shit in front of each other. Sure, if we were ill-I’ve had to get my dh a receptacle to pee in then get rid of it-is one thing but farting intentionally? But those who love it, crack on!

CenotaphCorner · 16/02/2025 21:24

Wheat, and all refined carbs, butter and significantly cut down red meat

TheLaughOfRustyLee · 16/02/2025 20:33

Or so you think.

Are you saying you have never farted in your sleep and he has never been awake to hear it?

That will all change when you hit perimenopause 😆

I've been through peri and it didn't make me fart any more that normal (which is only about once a day anyway).
