To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:07

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

Hmm interesting. It is actually Anfield. Although now I want them to get towed 😂

I just knew it was going to be Anfield! Parking is a nightmare isn’t it. Dd had a dance event at the lighthouse and I paid to park on someone’s drive.

ThereWillBeGold · 17/02/2025 08:36

I can't believe the cheek of people who would park across someone's driveway. Especially when there is a car actually on the driveway!
It's always the same selfish people who think they can do what they want- seen it so often over the years, at schools in particular. They have absolutely no consideration for anyone else
The driver of that car got what they deserved.

Praying4Peace · 16/02/2025 23:10

I agree with you.
Alot of posters appeared to egg on the OP to contact police and seemingly got great pleasure out of the countdown to the tow truck arriving and the anticipation of the drivers reaction when finding out. I appreciate the huge inconvenience of not being able to use her car but I feel uncomfortable with the large number of responses who are seemingly gaining great pleasure out of the outcome.
Yes, the car driver and passengers were inconsiderate but no harm resulted from their thoughtless behaviour.
And OPs shopping can be sorted tomorrow

But the shopping she wanted was for her lunch today, I suppose she can just buy something expensive on her way to work. Because a selfish arsehole wants to not pay or walk a bit further to the game or wherever he was going.

I mean their needs definitely top trumps OPs.

If they hadn’t been reported and learnt their lesson, hopefully next time it’s you they block in and it’s when you need to get somewhere you deem urgent.

Far from giving OP a hard time you should be thanking her for teaching people a lesson, that means you are less likely to be inconvenienced by.

Purplebunnie · 17/02/2025 08:45

@Praying4Peace

A very entitled person has received an expensive lesson. You just don't abandon your car for a few hours and leave someone unable to get their car out. This is CF of the highest degree

My10centsworth · 17/02/2025 08:54

I live near a children's hospital and I call tow trucks on a regular basis for people-staff/parents/visitors who block me in. I used to try to be nice, I have left notes, asked those who returned to their cars not to do it again but no one cares. In the beginning the police would ask me to reconsider or tell me that they were not going to do anything as it was near a children's hospital. However, there was an incident where an ambulance had to be called for an elderly resident as her son could not get her to the hospital as they were blocked in. I usually give the people some time or don't bother if I don't have to go out, but if I need to go out, even to the shops, then I will call. I have also advised the hospital about this and they do have signs in their A&E. No longer my problem. And you can tell me that I am harsh.

Get a couple of traffic cones set up in front of your drive in future or on match days park across your own drive if you are in .

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 17/02/2025 08:19

So OP can simply change her plans, now that a stranger's illegal selfishness has prevented her from being able to use her day as she wants/needs to; but the stranger can't possibly make his plans to abide by the law when parking?

Why does only he matter?

They all matter and the people who parked the car on OPs drive were inconsiderate in their actions. My point is that the posts seemed pretty vengeful and at the end of the day, no major inconvenience other than not being able to go shopping

Not giving OP a hard time, my comments were
predominantly related to the posters egging her on seemingly taking joy from the car owners reactions when they found car had been taken away

it happens to me all the time and you loose sympathy. It’s not ok for people to park across someone’s driveway. I really was reading with glee as it happens to me all the time and it’s great to see some justice!

And lots of people seem to be gloating on that

My neighbour was blocked in by an office worker entirely parked across their drive (we have offices at end of our street and the staff often park quite inconsiderately, part hanging over drives, but never usually as badly as this ).

The police towed the car away very quickly after they were made aware of the issue. When the lady came back she told my neighbour she had been running late for work, hence parking like that. She had caused my neighbour to have to make alternative arrangements for a work meeting a 30 min drive away!

I spoke to the police at the time when they were loading the car. They don’t notify the owner the car has been towed , so the owner has to click on what has happened/ or rings the police to report the car stolen, when they then get informed what has happened to it. Oh and they also got a parking ticket!

I love that! I feel like there is a growing entitlement with parking in this country. It happens to me on a weekly basis. People are so selfish and uncaring.

itsgettingweird · 17/02/2025 09:13

Of course their gloating!!!

A cheeky fucker got his comeuppance.

An entitled twat who thought their need to park trumped someone else's right to get on and off their own property.

Absolutely we will gloat that for once the entitled fuckwit in the scenario got their just deserves.

Usually the victims who end up out of pocket or time etc.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 17/02/2025 05:18

Yes, people got pleasure when, for once, a lawbreaker isn't getting away with breaking the law. For once, the good guys won.

Yet, that fact bothers you. Maybe, someday, you'll have someone blocking your car in, and you'll get a call to hurry to A&E/police station/school for a child, partner, parent etc. and you won't be able to get out. THEN you'll understand why it needs to be stopped BEFORE the above happens.

I have similar experience and called a cab to get to where I needed to go.
Massively inconvenient but a resolvable problem. If an emergency occurred, there is 999
My point is that reaction was disproportionate to the event IMO

Praying4Peace · 17/02/2025 09:16

InWalksBarberalla · 17/02/2025 01:54

Seriously? So the OP isn't supposed to mind being stuck without use of her car for an afternoon. And now she has to somehow squeeze the shopping into an already busy workday because some inconsiderate fool parked illegally. Of course he should face the consequences of causing OP inconvenience and breaking the law.

We can agree to disagree

Praying4Peace · 17/02/2025 09:17

surreygirl1987 · 16/02/2025 23:35

You have to be kidding. This is victim blaming at its finest.

I'm not blaming anyone. I'm merely stating that IMO the responses of posters were disproportionate to the event

And the cheeky parkers car getting towed is a resolvable problem...they pay the impound fine and get their car back.

Totally proportionate...had the op damaged the car or it had been crushed then I would agree thats not proportionate but this is fixable with no lasting damage for the cheeky parker...they will just be financially and time inconvenienced like the op coild have been

Praying4Peace · 17/02/2025 09:17

The options were

  1. Report get it towed, that’s the punishment for that crime. That’s what happens when you park illegally, the tow company do not interview the person reporting and decide if shopping is a good enough reason, or ask if proof of the sick or elderly relative. They literally, arrive, is the car parked illegally, yes or no, then remove it.
  2. The OP just puts up with selfish CF motorists and adapts her life anticipating that a home game, means that they can’t use their drive and/or their car.

So, she chose option 1, which in my opinion is correct. Taught the CF a lesson and likely they won’t be doing it again.

More fool you!

Calling 999 is not an option, they don’t arrive in tow trucks.

The CF you bowed down too, is likely doing it again and again, whilst people enable them. Pathetic!

I was just going for some bits for lunch for work in the week so I'll be fine. Considering opening that bottle of red that's left from Christmas though 😂

Seems like a waste of resources if you didn't even go out in the end!

orangegato · 17/02/2025 09:44

Very satisfying conclusion to this. What a selfish cunt. I love swift justice.

Justleaveitblankthen · 17/02/2025 09:45

I can't see this 'funnel' to read all the OP'S updates 😩 Which part of the thread do you see this funnel? 🫠
Sorry if someone has already explained how to find it.
This is quite rightly a hugely popular thread and I'm so invested 🍿

3rdtimeinflorida · 17/02/2025 09:46

OP, well done for doing this. People who disagree with you have obviously never had this happen to them.

JimHalpertsWife · 17/02/2025 09:46

On the opening post there should be a "see all" bit at the bottom. It theb just filters so only OPs posts are visible.
