To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:07

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

But the car isn't there, it's been towed?!

Ummm ok???! I didn't know?? 🙄

LillyPJ · 16/02/2025 18:34

You could leave a message on their windscreen, pointing out that they blocked you in, but that wouldn't prevent someone else doing it in future. However, it might help them be a bit more considerate about where they park their car. Maybe it's best, when you know there's going to be a game, for you to park across your drive so others can't.

Or you could read the updates ....

Blimey, Op has only done about a dozen posts-hardly that hard to read through them!

Does the "see all" not work for everyone or having Op's posts highlighted?

This is a fast moving thread, could you either tell me why, or tell me the tone you posted the secret answer?

I literally answered it three minutes before you asked.

LillyPJ · 16/02/2025 18:41

Me too. People seem to think parking laws don't apply to them or they're too unimportant to bother with. When someone parked outside my house, I politely pointed out that there were double yellow lines which are there for a reason (dangerous junction near a sharp bend). They just laughed and said, 'But it's Sunday.' I hadn't realized the law didn't apply on Sundays ... (And, by the way, this road is busier on a Sunday because of local attractions.)

You have confirmed the stadium and where you live on this thread. You admit you lied to the police about needing to go out and care for your elderly mum. In reality you just wanted to get groceries for your lunch at work, and you didn’t do that in the end.

If the police knew the reality was that you’ll be chilling at home with wine, chances are they wouldn’t have got involved.

So whilst it’s cathartic having an inconsiderate driver being towed, it just comes across as a waste of resources. Now you’ll potentially have an angry or drunk group of football fans on your doorstep, potentially requiring further police intervention. Football fans generally aren’t the most reasonable people, their initial reaction will likely be worry or rage (ie was the car stolen?)

Whilst everyone else is happy to watch on with popcorn, the truth is no one here or on the neighbourhood group chat will protect you if things go south @Parkingdrama00

By the time the car was towed it would have been too late to go shopping - she said early on that the shop would be closed by the time the game was over (probably by 4 pm on a Sunday). And she did also say that she was planning to buy some stuff for her elderly mum too.
It's none of the CF's business what exactly she planned to do or if she did it in the end. He inconvenienced her, and that's anyone needs to know.

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 16/02/2025 18:44

Good on you op! All those that feel sorry for him, do you usually let people walk all over you? He didn't consider the op did he! Might stop him being such a dick head next time by blocking someone in on their own drive, who might have a real emergency. Zero sympathy for him. If he can afford to see Liverpool play I'm sure he'll have the money for a taxi.

WhamBamThankU · 16/02/2025 18:45

Great outcome!! I live near two schools and the parents are unbelievably selfish. Sometimes when I get home I can't park anywhere on our -long, wide- street so have to go for a drive for 10 minutes to let them bugger off. They park with gaps between them but not enough for a car, on dropped kerbs, some of them look abandoned! I wouldn't mind doing the drive round if my autistic child wasn't expecting to go home once he sees our street.

Yes but the thread is massively long, and you can read OP's updates only rather than assuming you are saying something that hasn't been said and responded to already.

I literally answered it three minutes before you asked.

I’ve found it now! Amazing you couldn’t use the three words in that to explain, you used more in your two posts since then.

Are you always so belligerent?

So, you’ve lost it, very careless, where was the last time you had it? Start there?

Was it last parked across a drive? If so, it may be yours?

Cyclebabble · 16/02/2025 18:47

I have a cousin who lives on the estate next to West Bromwich Albion. On matchdays there were signs up saying that there was no parking on the estate and that any non resident vehicles that parked there would be towed. As in OPs cas they regularly towed cars away- even if they were not blocking anyone in. Yes it is harsh, but you really cannot complain if you parked deliberately where you should not and get caught.

I learnt so much from this post @Parkingdrama00 thanks for asking thr question and thanks Mnrs for explaining what to do.

Best bit of advice I've seen on here for ages.

And to @Parkingdrama00 wind your neck in.

Yes I agree noone would come to anyone's aid, but the AH shouldn't have parked across someone's driveway. They should have paid £20 parking cos now it'll be a few £00 to get their car back 😎🤣🤑 lesson (hopefully) learnt.

I assume you meant to tag someone else in with the second @ mention here? 🙏

To assume makes an ass of u.

It was more than likely a kopite.

I prefer Alan Rickman's 'Assume nothing apart from the occasional air of intelligence', used it often back in the classroom days!

Don’t be so ridiculous! They acted because OP was blocked in, the car was parked by a total selfish cunt!

OP doesn’t live in bloody Greendale 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!

It's irrelevant what she said! If my drive were blocked in this way and I suddenly had to rush someone to A and E, such as my OH making a mess of separating burgers with a very sharp knife years ago!, then I don't want to wait for the offending car to be removed so I would be phoning for the tow truck as soon as it was parked.

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 18:58

No more updates, I think that's the last of the drama. What a strange day! I am settled with a wine and the curtains are drawn so nothing else to be seen.

Thanks for all the advice and following along with me.

Exactly

Cyclebabble · 16/02/2025 19:02

Just to be clear the Police would have towed this car anyway. It was not relevant if the OP needed to look after her mum or not. Police have arrangements for match days to move cars out the way quickly. The car was blocking a drive. The two truck took it to the pound. According to the Merseyside Police website the release fee is £160. However (big but), the pound is not open until Monday am. So a day off work potentially and a trick back up to Liverpool from Wolverhampton....and Wolverhampton lost. Not a good day for the rogue motorist.
