To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:07

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

Can you say what colour the car was?

Have you "lost" one after being at the footy 👀😉😂

Read update, nice one OP 👏But so many people on here now need to calm down and untwist their knickers about illegal parking. It was fun but now it's just tedious, banging on and repeating everything.
Leaving the thread so doesn't matter what happens now.

Thanks for letting us know.

Leave a note on their windscreen saying you've posted about it on Mumsnet, and the AUDACITY of their action has generated 25 pages of angry comments so far.

I wonder if he's still searching ...

You have confirmed the stadium and where you live on this thread. You admit you lied to the police about needing to go out and care for your elderly mum. In reality you just wanted to get groceries for your lunch at work, and you didn’t do that in the end.

If the police knew the reality was that you’ll be chilling at home with wine, chances are they wouldn’t have got involved.

So whilst it’s cathartic having an inconsiderate driver being towed, it just comes across as a waste of resources. Now you’ll potentially have an angry or drunk group of football fans on your doorstep, potentially requiring further police intervention. Football fans generally aren’t the most reasonable people, their initial reaction will likely be worry or rage (ie was the car stolen?)

Whilst everyone else is happy to watch on with popcorn, the truth is no one here or on the neighbourhood group chat will protect you if things go south @Parkingdrama00

Tell me you’ve never been to Anfield without telling me you’ve never been to Anfield

I'm not saying I think @Parkingdrama00 was wrong to call the police. I'm not saying that the car should not have been towed. I am just capable of seeing the other side of a situation and feeling a little sympathy for someone who made a bad decision that has spiralled into a huge problem. Their probably rash decision to block a driveway will cause inconvenience and expense way beyond their expectation and I can imagine that they didn't forsee it at all.

They're learning an expensive lesson, and to be honest, their mates will probably be glad that they've learned it for them.

. Their probably rash decision to block a driveway will cause inconvenience and expense way beyond their expectation and I can imagine that they didn't forsee it at all.

How can any rational, considerate person not fore-see an issue by blocking someone’s driveway whilst they went to a football match.
They didn’t have to park for an emergency, they chose to park there because it suited them. That in itself is beyond entitled, to them not to for-see an issue arising because of their choice is laughable.

Consequences have actions. He gave absolutely NO consideration to the OP and whatever the outcome in terms of cost is entirely his fault.

BIWI · 16/02/2025 17:53

@EarthSight have you RTFT?! The car has been towed. No windscreen to leave a note on.

Don't be dense. The tow company wasn't sent or funded by the police. And she didn't lie, she said she needed to help her mum. And even if she did lie - so what? The car needed to be removed. How was OP to know what the driver was doing? It was only a guess they were there for the match. They might have been staying for several days for all she knew. Don't make excuses for shit behaviour.

And write the note with a head tilt and tinkly laugh.

Like the driver would give a toss about this place.

Yes but if OP leaves the note where the windscreen may have been, it might stay there for the CFs return.

Hopefully it’s a still night in Liverpool.

NovemberMorn · 16/02/2025 17:59

MJconfessions · 16/02/2025 17:16

The police thought OP was caring for her elderly mother which is why they acted. OP admits that was a lie.

The OP isn't the one at fault here, why are you trying to make out she is?

Many people nowadays don't seem to realise their self entitlement often affects other people. Actions have consequences, as this bloke has found this out.

Harsh though the outcome may be, he will think twice in future ... he is a better man, and others are saved from his inconsiderate parking.

Win win. 🤗

murasaki · 16/02/2025 17:59

Mrsredlipstick · 16/02/2025 18:01

As a disabled person I would be able to apply for a dropped curb. Sometimes this was the only way to get a dropped curb. How do people who park illegally know you don't have disabilities? You may need to leave your home urgently.
I'm just about to buy an accessible property and will have a parking bay allocated outside. What's the betting I'll be ringing the rozzers frequently?

Highly amusing thread OP.

Bloom15 · 16/02/2025 18:06

Well done OP - I am in Liverpool too and happy our excessive council tax means something is done to idiots like this. I used to work at Anfield and people (fans) just didn't care. It's mostly terraces too which makes it even more cheeky!

Whammyyammy · 16/02/2025 18:07

Excellent news. Well the inconvenience and fee for rhe tow/release and a couple of hours wasted may teach the selfish driver a lesson.
Karma

The OP has not wasted police resources. You cannot block someone in, you cannot park over a dropped kerb. OP called the police, the tow truck arrived promptly and took action as should happen. It was very likely in the area due to the match and knowing there would be several calls about this exact problem. It makes no difference what the OP is / was doing, there could have been any array of reasons why she needed to get off her drive way quickly.

You’re exaggerating the possible consequences for the OP. Protection? From what, someone who spends half an hour scratching their head wondering where their car is, then realises it’s been towed and legally so?

DaveFromIT · 16/02/2025 18:09

Fairly sure the clubs themselves pay for match day policing and parking enforcement anyway.
