... to ask you to practise parking it in a single space? Saturday afternoon in the town multistorey and the number of huge cars parked half in a second space is 🤯

Apparently it's do with the way it's set so yes it can be changed. If you can't do it ask your garage to help you.

See here for a better explanation:

Nope - I’ve spoken to the dealership about it and all of our settings are correct. The LEDs themselves are simply far too bright.

Am wondering why it’s acceptable to refer to Range Rovers as “chav mobiles” on here? I once went on a date with a man who called the bus a “peasant wagon” and I left immediately. Making judgements on people because of their transport choices is frankly odd.

Jealousy

They're too big for single spaces a lot of the time.

They're too big full stop.

Fucking ridiculous for city dwellers to have these wanky child killing machines.

If you have one, I judge you.

This. So tacky and naff too.

These threads always trigger bonkers generalisations like this 😂 is it jealousy? Insecurity? Not sure. Funny though.

These threads also always trigger the conclusion that it is jealousy or some sort of feeling of inferiority that causes people to be exasperated at the impact of massive cars and the behaviour of some of their drivers.

Is it a sense of entitlement that makes people shout ‘jealousy’? Not sure. Funny though.

Jealousy

Couldn’t be further from it! I drove lovely Mercedes SUVs for years but considering we live in the city now and DD no longer has a horse our days of needing one are long gone - I still never would’ve chosen a Range Rover though. Horrible things.

madamweb · 15/02/2025 15:59

Agree, and parking companies need to fine people who take up a second space.

There are plenty of compact cars available for people who lack parking skills

AgnesX · 15/02/2025 16:00

Thatladdo · 15/02/2025 15:40

Disabled spaces are the best option, no worries getting in or out or dings from other car doors.

Like a certain earlier poster I hope you're being a smart Alec and actually have a blue badge.

A blue badge and space being no guarantee that the person will have parked properly in it anyway.

WooleyMunky · 15/02/2025 16:05

If they could produce a car that ran on sanctimony, MN could solve the climate crisis...

Jealousy

😂 What’s to be jealous of?

No matter what you may think, when most people see drivers in their huge SUV’s nipping to the shop or on the school run, they are definitely not thinking how jealous they are!

chocorabbit · 15/02/2025 16:06

DH had spent weeks at the hospital caring for MIL. The second day a massive car was parked and he parked right in the middle of the box next to it. Despite this the driver of this monstrous vehicle couldn't open his door and when DH left late at night our passenger door had been horribly keyed by this selfish imbecile 😡I don't understand why they don't pay massive taxes to drive around and penalise them like with the ULEZ which only penalises poor people! I have never seen locally any idiot who parks on the road in a space for two receive a ticket. Has anyone? DH has almost dragged traffic wardens to tell them to give them tickets or talk to them but nothing happened.

100% agree.

And if you are designing a carpark or setting standards for them, please allow enough space. Cars are bigger these days. A lot of the reason behind that is improved safely; crumple zones take up space, and if you have three children you can't just line them up on the back seat.

So please design for the actual world. Similarly, add in some extra loos for the women if that's what you are planning.

Yours, a childless non-car owner.

And have you thought of the implications of that? Bigger car parking spaces in for example a new build school means less spaces for sports and outdoor learning. Might have implications such as the building needing to be two storey to accommodate the required parking and outdoor pe, which might mean that not or all classrooms can have direct access to outside space.

Or is could mean the DfE allow you not to meet the requirements for number of parking spaces which means lots of staff cars parked in the streets surrounding the school.

Miaowzabella · 15/02/2025 16:08

thismuchwould · 15/02/2025 16:06

100% agree.

Oh but be fair, they need a large vehicle to transport their XL bullies in.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 15/02/2025 16:09

They're everywhere, awful looking dominant vehicles, that are very dangerous in aggressive driver's possession.

All the local streets are now single lane.

It'll only get worse when american monster SUV's becomes popular.

I've seen a couple already.

Jealousy

Why would they be jealous?

Plenty of people who could easily afford them still don't buy them

Most of the people I know who have them have bought them on credit and pay through the nose for the privilege of having to panic about finding a parking space wherever they go.

I agree plus these cars are even bigger! And if they hit you you won't have a chance.

TagSplashMaverick · 15/02/2025 14:50

I have one. I live in the country. I also have to frequent the city. Am I supposed to downsize to a ghastly little Geewhizz when I hit the city limits? 😂

If there’s a shitload of free spaces in a supermarket car park, I’ll often straddle two spots because it’s too big for a single space without being damaged by other parkers. I do park far away from the shop though, I’m not a lazy decker trying to park on top of the door.

Interesting you say ‘I live in the country’ and not ‘I’m a farmer (or other reason to need such a big vehicle)’
We live in the country too. Lots of people have massive 4x4s in the countryside who really don’t need them. Plus they tend to be the worst drivers who take up the most room on narrow lanes not wishing to scratch their darling status symbols. Whereas people who use them for work purposes know they get scratched and pull into hedges appropriately.

thismuchwould · 15/02/2025 16:12

Chipsahoy · 15/02/2025 15:21

I agree city dwellers and even town dwellers don’t need them. But sometimes us farmers have to go into the city. You can usual spot us though, truck or suv will be covered in mud.

I live in a semi rural area and can vouch that you can spot the working vehicles from the arses who just want stupidly big cars very easily.

That's why they buy them. It's all about status and they are absolutely deluded to think we envy them!

notnorman · 15/02/2025 16:13

We bought an xc90 outright as we needed 7 seats and a boot.
The amount of bitching and cattiness by other women who I had considered friends was unreal.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 15/02/2025 16:13

I don't think so, the trend started with MC mummies, then wags, now anyone who has access the finance loans of 50,000.
Not a typical xl bully owner.

And of course the driver doesnt just skip away if they kill someone.

You would think incidents like this one would give people pause.

If the driver had been driving a sensible sized car it would have caused anywhere near the same scale of tragedy

They are literally killing machines
