I bought something on vinted and it is SNAD (significantly not as described) so i let the seller know that the item has arrived and that the pics they used in listing did not show the faults and that nowhere in their listing did it state any wear & tear / faults / i was replied to with a tsunami of abuse about how i should wear glasses and why i shouldn’t have expected what i paid for to be anything other than what i received 😳 i then told the seller they left me no other alternative but to raise a dispute but vinted have asked me to return to seller at my cost… so im now baffled as it seems that anyone can do this and just keep getting the item returned to them to resell with no consequences til maybe eventually someone cba to return.
AIBU- vinted is for secondhand goods suck it up
AINBU- vinted is allowing scammers to sell here

I buy through Vinted no problem but we're talking kids clothes at £2/3 value each so I take my chances.
I did have a huge hassle as a seller though, my parcel was somehow mislabelled and my buyer received adults clothes when I sent children's clothes (the adult clothes were not from me so not my mix up!)
I had to pay the shipping to get the incorrect parcel back, then Vinted refunded my buyer and told me they couldn't help me.
So I lost the money from my actual parcel as it disappeared, lost the money from the shipping and the buyer was refunded. And it's not actually free to shop on there as the buyer protection is just the same as eBay's seller fees - but least eBay has a customer service department and is now free so eBay wins now!

Yeah, they could at least be honest that it is buyers fees and not buyer protection. I’ve only had one snad item from there so I think I’ve been lucky, it wasn’t expensive so I sucked it up and left bad feedback. I never spend more than £20, although it would pain me to loose that amount. I think I’ve been lucky so far.

ACynicalDad · 15/02/2025 22:43

I got a specific form of wording from the back about a payment and then they helped. Until then, shit.

This thread reminded me of my first ever (disastrous) vinted purchase. I bought a Nadine Merabi jumpsuit that the seller claimed was in "fabulous" condition having been worn once for 2 hours.

It arrived absolutely stinking of stale sweat and the sequinned areas were badly pulled/coming undone. There were a couple of fairly dubious looking stains too. She'd listed the size incorrectly too (it was actually a size smaller than she said) and she'd neglected to send the promised suit bag with it.

When I contacted her I got a torrent of abuse and she accused me of wearing it for whatever event I'd bought it for and trying to return it (stinking of my own sweat) afterwards. Even though she could see from the delivery tracking that I'd had the bloody thing for about half an hour before I messaged her to complain.

She then decided I'd trashed it as it didn't fit me - she came pretty close to saying I was too fat for it. This was in response to me saying it was labeled a size smaller than she'd claimed. I never even tried it on - the smell was too vile.

I had an absolute nightmare with vinted customer service but did eventually get my money back. She listed it again. She got the size right second time around but still claimed it was in "fabulous" condition.

It didn't put me off vinted and I've bought (and sold) loads since then but I'm way more cautious about how much I'm willing to spend.

I have the opposite problem- sent an item in PRISTINE condition, as all my items are. Seller has said it’s “significantly not as described” and sent a picture of it looking damaged- this is two days after receiving the item so the damage has clearly been done since she received it. Vinted automatically believe her! So all I can do is ask for her to pay to send it back and I’m left with a damaged item.

Wolfhat · 15/02/2025 22:51

Ive had great experience with it but im only buying second hand kids clothes. Had a parcel today for £50 total bursting with baby/toddler clothes, practically full new wardrobe for next size up that looked brand new. My ones must be feral lol very little I could resell. Bought lots (all kids clothes) and only had one that had a stained tshirt in with a bundle but that was clearly a mistake more than anything.

Slatkater · 15/02/2025 22:56

EBay’s customer service is non existent. I sold an item on eBay and the buyer claimed they hadn’t received it so I refunded them. A few months later they sold the exact same item on eBay. Three phone calls to eBay, they agree it is my item that was sold, (photos with identifying marks) promise they will refund/contact me/consequences for the buyer etc. Nothing has happened. No refund, no consequence for the thieving *.

FallOfTheHouseOfUtterlyButterly · 15/02/2025 22:57

Did have an issue where an item I sent apparently got returned to the delivery shop I'd sent it from. Like the tracking showed it picked up, taken to a depot then scanned in

Shop was hugely unhelpful and said they couldn't check if it was there because I didn't have a code

Vinted refunded buyer and, fair play, opened a case with the shipping company

Which funnily enough spurned them on to deliver the item!

Vinted then said they couldn't do anything so to relist the item and ask buyer to buy again so I could get the money!

Luckily the buyer was accommodating but it could have left me without the item and the payment because the shipping company said they couldn't do anything as it had been delivered

Ang3leyes · 15/02/2025 23:11

I bought a needed winter coat for £50 on vinted, I wrongly assumed it would be good for that price but the string tie thing around the waist was all shrivelled and id already clicked everything was ok before i noticed, now I will only buy things for a few pounds

sparrowflewdown · 15/02/2025 23:16

The problem is if you leave them negative feedback they usually then write a terrible review about you to try to silence you.

YANBU it is not a great system.

Hopefully people will go back to eBay now there are no seller fees for normals.

Problem is, eBay is dead. You can literally hear the tumbleweed. I’ve got a ton of stuff listed on there that’s had no traction whatsoever - I think I’ve sold about 3 out of 30+ items in the last 6 months.

But the second you upload on Vinted, it flies out of the door - it tends to be lower value stuff but I’ve sold 15 items since Tuesday. There’s such high traffic on there it’s very easy to get stuff moved quickly.

Vinted and FB Marketplace have virtually killed eBay (it’s the only reason seller’s fees have gone) - & whilst I’d far, far rather be selling stuff there in terms of customer service and buyer/seller protection, it’s a lot of effort for almost no return.

Rainyblue · 15/02/2025 23:22

I prefer the layout of the Vinted app to the EBay app which I find too ‘busy’.
I have quite a few things listed on Vinted but haven’t sold anything for a while, I wonder if the scammers are putting people off?
I have generally been lucky with things I have bought but I never spend more than £20. I did once go over this and bought a leather jacket that was a different size to the listing, and I had to pay to return it which I was a bit annoyed about, the seller should have paid as it was their mistake. I couldn’t understand why I should pay postage as I could prove it was the wrong size to the listing! Plus I couldn’t then leave a bad review.

I've sold loads on eBay recently, a holiday week, jewellery, phones.. It's not dead at all.

I've been put off vinted and would rather buy new now. I'm all for second hand but not when you end up out of pocket. Vinted sides with the seller. I bought an item and the seller sent the wrong item, I was shocked when vinted told me I had to pay for the return even though the seller admitted they sent the wrong thing. Luckily she did cover the cost but it was annoying and I imagine many won't be so generous!

Same here, I bought a top for £2.50 and they sent a completely different top instead which was a child’s age 10, different colour, style everything.

I was shocked I had to pay to return which cost more than the cost of the item but I did if out of principle.

The seller said she’d send the correct item when she received the return but she never did. She just cancelled and refunded the original order so I was left with no item and out of pocket after paying to return, it’s a scam

chubbybubbyandmrwrinkles · 16/02/2025 00:40

I was going to post about Vinted the other day! Have no idea what to do...buyer said SNAD when I sent a toy in perfect (new) condition. She sent pictures and the plastic has been smashed to bits. I'm trying to find out how to claim 'damaged in transit' but have been going round and round in circles with Vinted Support and Evri.

North789 · 16/02/2025 02:04

I’ve sold on Vinted for a few years, bought a few things and haven’t had any issues before but I would be very reluctant to buy or sell anything of much value. I am finding that sellers are trying to make things a lot more expensive than they should be, very close to retail prices even though the item is often still available. Who is buying this stuff! Also people being very optimistic with the condition of their items. I saw a Sezane cardigan on there for about £70 had a stain and a hole in it, listed as very good 😂

PandaTime · 16/02/2025 03:16

I know stuff is cheap on Vinted, but I don't buy anything I don't actually want, so it is very frustrating when someone sends something SNAD then uses the "you got it for cheap, suck it up" excuse. It's really not worth the cost of sending it back which means you're stuck with something shit that you did not want while a twat gets to keep your money grr.😡

TheIvyRestaurant · 16/02/2025 03:35

This is why I now only buy books on Vinted. Absolutely sick of getting dog hair covered smelly clothing in the post to be told to go and die by the seller when I complain

AliciaSoo · 16/02/2025 06:18

I only tend to get kids clothing or I got some maternity jeans for example, as you can't really get them in physical shops much anymore and they cost a fortune. I've bought some new Levi's with tag included that came as described. Also bought breast pumps with rrpps of £500. BUT I also don't get anything from people with low start rating. I'm actually devastated cause someone left me a 3 star review just because the scarf she'd bought from me (new and pristine) had come in a clear bag :( and my only other bad review (automatic from Vinted) was waiting a response from a buyer, time passed and actually went beyond the sending time.
So now my rating is 4.8 star overall and it's nagging me!
But yes, overall, I don't get things from people with low star rating. And the things mentioned were the only things I've ever bought worth big value. Anything else is just kids clothes/next size up etc

BeeMyBaby · 16/02/2025 06:34

Ive had a good exp returning an item, i had bought this activity pad and a swimtop, the activity pad came with a few pages completed even though it was listed unused, i opened a case (i didnt bother telling the seller directly), and took photos of the few pages, and got my money for the pad and all the postage back, even though i had bought the swimtop too. Only think bad is that quite a few times sellers dont bother to send the items or cancel the order so you know to find something else so you just have to wait a week for it to time out.

modgepodge · 16/02/2025 07:41

ill tell you one good experience I had with vinted. I ordered something to an inpost locker, then failed to collect it within the 3 days, i just completely missed the emails and didn’t realise until it was too late. My fault entirely. Item was returned to sender.i then got a full refund including the postage! Couldn’t believe it. I assumed I’d get the item refunded, but lose the postage. But no, I got the whole lot back.

ruralwanderer · 16/02/2025 09:00

I buy and sell a lot on Vinted and it's usually all good. I bought a coat this week though that was not a described, immediately raised an issue and was granted a refund with return postage at the sellers cost. I posted it back yesterday so hopefully I'll have the money back this week.

JustMarriedBecca · 16/02/2025 09:08

I've had one item go missing and I got neither item nor money.
I've also sold something, it sat somewhere. Then got returned to me but the buyer never got notification to pick it up. Now Vinted are telling her it's arrived and sent her a photo of my house where it's been returned to. We're both working on making Vinted release the pending fee back to her. But nothing. I'm not refunding her from my balance as the sums not in my account. That's a Yodel delivery.

Viviennemary · 16/02/2025 09:12

I 've never bought anything on vinted. From what you've said it sounds too risky. Ebay is fine. But I usually only do buy it now. Can't be bothered with auctions any more.

Gardenbird123 · 16/02/2025 09:31

I have sold on Vinted - I do my best to describe accurately and sell at a low price. So far all my feedback has been good. I contacted one buyer as I wasn't sure she had realised the jeans were petite length - she was pleased as she was 5ft 8ins tall 😁
