Sick of Vinted not helping buyers

I bought something on vinted and it is SNAD (significantly not as described) so i let the seller know that the item has arrived and that the pics they used in listing did not show the faults and that nowhere in their listing did it state any wear & tear / faults / i was replied to with a tsunami of abuse about how i should wear glasses and why i shouldn’t have expected what i paid for to be anything other than what i received 😳 i then told the seller they left me no other alternative but to raise a dispute but vinted have asked me to return to seller at my cost… so im now baffled as it seems that anyone can do this and just keep getting the item returned to them to resell with no consequences til maybe eventually someone cba to return.
AIBU- vinted is for secondhand goods suck it up
AINBU- vinted is allowing scammers to sell here

I would never buy anything worth more than £30 on there, because of the poor buyer protection.

It's best for people wanting to offload clothes cheaply, then you often get a bargain. I only buy brands I know.

I love it and am a bit addicted.

I am a good seller too, I don't sell my bobbly worn out clothes only fit for the rag bag going to charity. 🙄😂

MyCatNamedCookingFat · 16/02/2025 14:24

And they need to be honest, buyer protection is their fee and profit. And often ridiculous for lower cost items.

3girlsunder3 · 16/02/2025 16:05

I’ve been scammed too -but as a seller. Does anyone know how to get past the ai bot and speak to a real person? Sold a £40 book for £20 ( out of print so rare) - buyer has claimed damaged in transit due to poor packaging, had a refund and refused to return the book! Vinted asked her to return it but only if she wanted to !! She has sent photos of the opened packaging to Vinted and claimed that’s how it arrived - but sent me photos showing just the corner of the jiffy envelope was torn and no damage to book inside. Got nowhere with Vinted not and laughed at by the buyer ….

I know stuff is cheap on Vinted, but I don't buy anything I don't actually want, so it is very frustrating when someone sends something SNAD then uses the "you got it for cheap, suck it up" excuse. It's really not worth the cost of sending it back which means you're stuck with something shit that you did not want while a twat gets to keep your money grr.😡

exactly what happened to me… it a
was also a different size yet vinted still side with them… infuriating 🤬

99% of my buys and sells on Vinted have been fab, but I’ve had a few shit ones, on both sides as a buyer and seller. I’ve had someone not state in the description or show in the photo that the black top had a huge bleach stain on it and listed it as in ‘very good condition’ then refused to refund it, and Vinted did the same and asked me to return, but I’ve had the same issues with being a seller too, more to do with people lying and saying they’ve not recieved something when I know they have and then wanted a refund and to keep the item and Vinted have been shit on that side too 🙃

Same here, I sell huge bundles for about £5 of almost new baby clothes (had a habit of buying loads of new baby stuff with my first that was never worn as he grew out of it 🙃) I’ve learnt to buy second hand on Vinted for my second as they grow so quick but then people have sent me poo stain covered baby grows and list them as “very good conditon” or “new without tags” 😂

@Doggymummar I’ve seen a couple of mentions of whatnot on this site in last few days, so I took a look. Looks horrendous!!! Very SM leaning and or Temu! what on earth is good about it?!

Popfan · 23/02/2025 18:27

I've just started selling things on Vinted and so far it's been great. I don't see it as a way to make money really, just a way to clear out clothes and of you make a bit of money too that's good too. I did take a bit of a risk and buy a Michael Kors bag which was more expensive but it's beautiful and I'm really pleased with it!

PatientVesta · 11/07/2025 12:22

I've been scammed twice now. Tried to buy Ray Ban sunglasses for my children, both times they were counterfeit. Clearly it is illegal to sell counterfeit items but apparently I have to pay to return them, WTF?

3rdtimelucky73 · 12/10/2025 22:59

In my experience, eBay sides with the buyer and Vinted the seller, regardless of fault or fact.

I bought a pair of 'worn once' Dr Martens off Vinted, when they arrived the seller had glued thick orthopaedic insoles into them. I couldn't get my feet in or the insoles out. Vinted sided with the seller despite the photos I sent.

I gave Vinted an awful review on Trust Pilot and 6 months later I got an email from them on TP asking for the transaction ID and then an apology for their oversight and a full refund through Vinted.

Smallsalt · 12/10/2025 23:36

I bought a top that was in slightly worse condition than expected.......mainly a bit stretched so top buttons didn't line up with holes.
I would have worn it but flagged to Vinted. Would have accepted partial refund as it wasn't terrible just not in the excellent condition claimed.
Within a few hours I was fully refunded and not told return item.
Still not sure how it happened as it's at odds with what I have heard re buyers having to return faulty things at their own expense.

I had a jacket described as new with tags and it was. But the zip was a faulty as the plastic bit that slots in at the bottom of the zip was fraying so it was impossible to use the zip. It had poppers though so I could use them.
I mentioned it in my review ( gave 4 stars) and the seller apologized profusely and offered me a partial refund but I told her not to bother as the jacket was lovely and it was no real hassle to use the poppers rather than zip and it was a gorgeous jacket for the money .

I have bought loads this year due to weight loss. My experience is mainly positive.

That's probably because that's what the seller chose. I sold a jumper once that I had never worn, but it had been in the cupboard and it had some moth holes which I had not noticed. I was mortified as it was a genuine mistake, so when this was reported with photos, I immediately refunded the buyer and said they didn't need to return it, as there was no use for me anyway. So yes, it all depends on what kind of seller you come across.

Holluschickie · 13/10/2025 10:03

Oh god. I made my first Vinted purchase a week ago. Still waiting for delivery. It's only £ 26 and from a five star seller.

Charity shops have become awful and overpriced, and I see so many gorgeous pure wool coats on Vinted, but scared to go further.

Unicornmagic568 · 23/01/2026 20:40

I've had to issues with vinted recently

One bought a jumper stain on it seller nor vinted interested £8 down the drain it's a white jumper for context 🙄

2nd smartwatch was brand in box won't charge it's from a pro seller even worse and vinted again fobbing me off on the other hand I've had several good items but this has put me off this year massively so won't be using them again and will go back to eBay now

SurferRona · 24/01/2026 17:49

I have a current issue with Vinted too. Have used for years and bought 100s of items, all good. Very few issues and support have been very good.

BUT last item I bought was clearly poor quality counterfeit from a scammer.

Royal Mail initially posted to a wrong address so I had to track it down myself; worried about the 48hr window to accept or flag issues, I told vinted support I needed an extension so I could retrieve it, and then I could check etc. I updated the support to say I had tracked it down at a neighbours AND VINTED THEN RELEASED MY FUNDS AT THAT POINT. Then, when I actually managed to physically check it later that night, I found it was a poor quality counterfeit piece. ☹️. Seller is just ignoring me, I’ve escalated to legal@vinted. I cannot believe they just released the funds without giving me an opportunity to review the item. I’ll come back and update here, but I think they breached their own T&Cs with me in how they run transactions. I’m annoyed enough to be thinking about small claims court if they don’t find in my favour- despite the relatively small amount.

HelloMama · 31/01/2026 19:37

I'm sad that people are so aggressive when communicating on Vinted. I've bought and sold 100's of items on vinted and until recently, had no issues at all. Sold a fairly expensive leather handbag - perfect condition, dust-bag included, etc; buyer received it and said it was damaged -covered in scuff marks and had ink stains inside - and took photos, which I think were done using AI? I asked how they'd like to resolve it and they said they'd accept the bag for £10, as that's all it was worth! When I asked them to send it back (stupidly, as my cost - as I was mortified there may have been issues that I hadn't noticed...) I got a barrage of abuse about time wasting, scam artist, conning people, etc! It was so hostile and awful, I couldn't quite believe it.

I also sold a top that the buyer said in a message that they didn't like as "it wasn't what I thought..." and said they didn't think the photos showed the colour correctly. Offered a return, so they paid to send it back (this is for a £3.50 top). I then got a whole load of abuse once they realised I wasn't including the return postage in the refund. Vinted is not NEXT catalogue or Amazon, where you can buy stuff, try on and return if you don't like it? I've bought a few things on Vinted that haven't turned out like I expected, sometimes due to the seller not being truthful etc, but I've chalked it up as experience and either given to charity, or re-sold with a better description. What I haven't done is contacted the sellers and threatened and abused them, all for the sake of a £7 pair of gym leggings. I just don't get it.

Netcurtainnelly · 31/01/2026 19:55

The whole vinted thing got lost along the way.

It was meant to be for people to sell their clothes very cheaply and buy cheaply back.

Now it's too big and wants to sell everything.
As usual the owners have made millions and not invested in customer services.
Laughing all the way to the bank.
