Do you get your children anything for Valentines day

Or do any activities with them?

I’m seeing it more and more as a thing for kids to be involved in, as in crafts or getting heart cupcakes..do you do things like that?

No? It is a commercial overrated marketing event as it is.Theyre too young anyway

WonderingWanda · 12/02/2025 22:19

I usually get them some heart shaped chocolates or jelly sweets so they don't pinch mine.

FionnulaTheCooler · 12/02/2025 22:19

I've got DD a card, I was in the card shop looking for one for DH and saw a sweet "daughter" one that I know she'll like, and a little net thing of chocolate love hearts. I know it's all a money making racket but it will make her happy.

Elpheba · 12/02/2025 22:19

I’ll do a special breakfast- heart shaped waffles, chocolate covered strawberries etc. I will give the kids a card and have got them a heart shaped bath bomb, some fun bath foam and a heart shaped lollipop. Just a bit of fun and my DM used to do similar for us when we were little.

maternitylleave102 · 12/02/2025 22:19

I got my 2 daughters a little bit of something as they both recently came out of long term relationships and I want to cheer them up.

I've also got us all some pretty heart pjs

HeebieJeebeez · 12/02/2025 22:20

Yes. But I have since my adult dc were small. Like a heart choc lolly or similar

This year a cupcake and heart chocolates.

fourelementary · 12/02/2025 22:21

Yes. Even as a child I got a chocolate heart shaped lollipop and I’m in my 40s! So it’s not a new thing really.
I get my kids a sweet treat of some sort or more- depends really. This year I’ve gone bigger but that’s because I really love the new Emma Bridgewater love heart range so… any excuse!!! Can’t really go wrong loving your kids… and telling them so on Valentine’s Day. ❤️

warmheartcoldfeet · 12/02/2025 22:22

Never have done before. But now you mention it, I might make him some heart shaped biscuits for after school.

LordBuckley · 12/02/2025 22:23

Of course not, why would you? Valentine’s day is for adults.

MellersSmellers · 12/02/2025 22:24

😂😂
Errr No!

Whatnowthenfordone · 12/02/2025 22:25

I find the concept absolutely bizarre and am surprised at the amount of people saying yes!

Valentine’s Day is for romantic love/the person you’re shagging. It’s not for kids.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 12/02/2025 22:26

One of my kids was so nearly a Valentines day baby, but popped out late on 13th. So we don't do Valentines day as a separate celebration but it's massively annoying that going out for a family birthday meal isn't possible

BondStreet · 12/02/2025 22:27

Yes, my DC and DH like to make a fuss of me so I’ve got them each a little balloon, some cupcakes and some chocolates. Didn’t spend very much at all but I know they’ll love it. It’s a bit ridiculous I know.

Trainstrike · 12/02/2025 22:28

I don't, but I find it interesting because I've always seen Valentines Day as more for kids/teens. So I think it's more normal for a parent to do a special breakfast or something than it is for adults to commemorate it in some way.

steff13 · 12/02/2025 22:28

Usually a small box of chocolates each. My mother did it for me when I was growing up, so I've just carried on.

It’s for romantic love. How could it be for kids?

PercyPigInAWig · 12/02/2025 22:29

As a child we always got some kind of heart themed sweets or chocolates. I remember my grandma making a heart shaped cake one year.
DC have been doing Valentines themed crafts in childcare setting this week.

Hollyhobbi · 12/02/2025 22:30

Yes. Just two heart shaped raspberry blondies that came with the shopping delivery today. They're both adults but living at home with me still as we live in Dublin and
rent costs are crazy here

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/02/2025 22:31

No, but I may get them a helium balloon for Ascension Day.

Halycon · 12/02/2025 22:36

Some posters here are saying they remember getting a little Valentines treat as a kid.

I know it’s a Hallmark Holiday and all that, but it’s nice that people have those fond memories and I don’t see the harm in it. They’re probably smiling at the memory, feeling all warm and fuzzy.

I did get my DS (3) a Kinder Egg, a dinosaur keyring for his backpack and a card. I know he’ll love them and my aim is to raise him to be thoughtful and kind, so I need to demonstrate that.

MaryGreenhill · 12/02/2025 22:36

I bought both my daughters red heart earrings and a matching bracelet from Primark
I am always getting them something little though

cariadlet · 12/02/2025 22:36

No.
Never did it for my now young adult dd and my parents never did it for me.

Valentine's Day has been a celebration of romantic love between adults for centuries.

When I was young (way back in the 80s), I didn't know anyone who sent or received a card or present until secondary school (when it became an awful popularity contest). Turning it into a day for kids seems weird to me.

Caerulea · 12/02/2025 22:38

Absolutely not! In fact, this is the first year I've bought DH a card in the 21 we've been together.

And I only got that cos it sings a song about bums & has a spaceman inside with a gold vibrating bottom & I know it will make him laugh

mitogoshigg · 12/02/2025 22:40

Really? No i didn't, it's about romantic love, why would it be about children?

VisitationRights · 12/02/2025 22:40

Yes, I do. We got treats when I was a kid, and exchanged cards at school, so I celebrate with my children. I’ll do pancakes for breakfast and give them each a little chocolate.
