What is the late night radio melancholy show called?

Was it Love Links? A story about love usually read out by the radio presenter with melancholy music playing.

Something like "Matt and Sarah went there separate ways. The years passed by and they both married other people"

Late night love with Graham Torrington ??

Jellyb39 · 12/02/2025 21:05

No, it was more of a story read to music, not always romance

Ahh I know Graham used to read stuff out people had written in for song dedications with their story of love 😂 I loved it although it was about 25 years ago…

Jellyb39 · 12/02/2025 21:25

It's driving me crackers now. I think it was called Love Links and may have been a regional show. Some slow classical music would play while the DJ dramatically and slowly read out the story. I think it did include 3 songs requested. It was read more like a story about people rather than a letter from someone. Does that sound like the same thing??

I know you said late night but it sounds like Our Tune with Simon Bates?

Jellyb39 · 12/02/2025 21:27

I've found it, PHEW!

All of this because the dog looked sad and I wanted to play that music as he eyeballed the kids sweets he isn't allowed 😂

Our Tune wasn’t late night 😄

BananaNirvana · 12/02/2025 21:30

11am on Radio 1 - loved it! 😄

Trallala · 12/02/2025 21:30

It's the the music from Romeo & Juliet, the film from the 60s

DollopOfFun · 12/02/2025 21:30

It was mid morning, did you work nights? Grin

ExtraOnions · 12/02/2025 21:31

I remember being at College … and everything stopped for Our Tune. People had calamitous lives !

TennisWithDeborah · 12/02/2025 21:34

I always remember the one where a little girl had died from illness and her parents wanted “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns N Roses because she’d loved rock music.

Very poignant.

SidekickSylvia · 12/02/2025 21:37

"She was pregnant, with a capital P"

Jellyb39 · 12/02/2025 21:38

I recall being about 12 and my older sister listening to this at about 1am, was it repeated? I could be completely muddling up memories.

@Monstermissy36 I used to love LNL with Graham Torrington back in the late 90s/early 2000s! Was it a national programme or were you a Midlander too? Bring back GT I say!

DreamW3aver · 12/02/2025 22:02

Are you young OP, no one can forget Our Tune 😁

menopausalfart · 12/02/2025 22:04

My DM would always have this on.

I listened to this as a teen and just assumed it was based at our local station. I'm now also curious!

Late night love with Graham Torrington ??

Edited

Omg I was going to say the same!!

cheapskatemum · 12/02/2025 22:32

There was Moments in Love in the evenings, I think on Capitol Radio. I'll have to ask DH the DJ's name, he has always been more into slushy tunes romantic than me. The music was Moments in Love by Massive Attack.

cheapskatemum · 12/02/2025 22:32

Meant to say, that was in the late 80s

DrFoxtrot · 12/02/2025 22:36

I used to love The Peaceful Hour on Radio City, when they read out listeners love stories and messages with Love Theme from St Elmo's Fire in the background 🥰.

Monstermissy36 · 13/02/2025 05:52

I always assumed late night love was local as i listened on our local station I think but I think it was national and just aired on local radio… I’m in Norfolk! Graham retired in 2020… yes I fell into a rabbit hole of where is he now last night 😂

Zanatdy · 13/02/2025 05:56

we used to have a late night love thing on our local radio when I was growing up. The presenter would read out a sad story with depressing music playing. It was just a local radio thing.
