MIL calling DH during my C section asking him to order her a takeaway

As the title says - AIBU to think this is completely unacceptable? After a recent tricky end to pregnancy I was having a scheduled c section. Within an hour of the procedure MIL was calling DH asking him to order her a takeaway as she doesn't use apps on her phone. Unbeknownst to me he had done this, I only found out it had happened because shortly after when I was fresh out of surgery she called him back complaining that the items she received were incorrect. He hung up on her at that point as we're obviously not in a position to be thinking about that. It really makes me question how I feel about her as a whole and don't feel like I can forget it! AIBU to be annoyed?

If MIL messaged, does this regularly, has the same order from XYZ takeaway every time, presumably it's not a huge effort to place the order, & he didn't engage on the follow up. I don't really see what the issue is.

You're not supposed to have your phone on in the operating theatre.

Literally everyone takes their phone in. The staff will take pictures of you being handed your baby for the first time, on your phone. It’s 2025.

my sil had his phone on, but with restrictions - I think it depends on the hospital trust

don't worry about your MIL just learn from it and no that at important times get your dp to turnoff his phone

This is the first time I have ever seen the plural of mother in law written correctly on MN 🧡

...what's the possessive plural?

My mothers-in-law share a car. Today I'm borrowing my <.............> car.

....telling you, at our house, the long winter evenings just fly by.

Why was your husband spending one second of his time with his mother (in a non-urgent situation), while you are giving birth? Both of them need a talking to!!

If it makes you feel
any better moments after I’d given birth my birth mother was on the phone to her ‘boyfriend’ talking about how she missed her post grad class and was probably going to fail for the inconvenience of me going into labour on that day at the time in her car :)

When I had my DD1 in 2023, I had an emergency c-section and one of the surgeons very kindly offered to take photos on my partner’s phone for us. We both had our phones in the theatre and none of the staff cared. So maybe this was a rule in a hospital you’ve had experience with exclusively?

Also yes OP, your MIL is odd 😂 Did she have nobody else to do this for her while you and your DH were welcoming your baby into the world?! I’d make a point of mentioning this to her forever, she ought to be mortified!

How did she know you'd just had the section?

RavenhairedRachel · 13/02/2025 22:06

Selfish cow. That's all I'm saying

Says who? The anaesthetist took my DH’s phone during both of my sections to take photos and videos of us. DH has long videos of the babies getting checked too.
Literally every person I know has a photo as soon as the baby came out!

Many a day I've had to rummage in a surgeons pockets under there gown to answer it and hold it to there face. Or even Google something for them
