Do you believe there's another realm and medium's can tap into it?

I do. I believe the energy of the dead never dies, it is with us but in another realm. Sometimes it comes through to our realm. AIBU?

I am a bit sceptical about medium's though. Interested to hear other people's view on this.

I believe...lol. I don't know why but I do. But I'd only admit it on here!

tuvamoodyson · 11/02/2025 12:36

No.

pootleondown · 11/02/2025 12:37

No, it's nonsense.

EveInEden · 11/02/2025 12:40

I don't believe in mediums because there isn't solid evidence.
I do believe our knowledge of the universes is tiny and we cannot say for certain what is or is not out there or what happens after death.
In terms of the universe, our time here is microscopic. I think we still believe we're the centre of it and many base their beliefs on that.

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 11/02/2025 12:41

I believe there are people who can communicate with those who have passed on but I don't believe mediums do. Those who have a genuine gift won't advertise it and will never let money cross their palms for it.

BigSilly · 11/02/2025 12:42

There may well be more dimensions than we, as humans living in a 3 dimensional world can comprehend. Quantum physics suggests that there are.
Whether spirits are trapped in them is a whole other thing, and a little woo for me.

MyPrettyLittleBella · 11/02/2025 12:43

Yes, I have had experiences that lead me to believe there is more going on that we have any idea about. No one knows for sure so no-one can say that there is nothing. I know what I have experienced and I believe other people who at one time did not believe at all until they experienced something that changed their mind.

CurlewKate · 11/02/2025 12:56

Mediums are either self deluded or charlatans.

CurlewKate · 11/02/2025 12:59

Watch Derren brown explaining how mediums do it-and doing it himself. Nobody could possibly believe in mediums after that.

SorcererGaheris · 11/02/2025 13:05

As a polytheist occultist who practices witchcraft, I definitely believe there's a spiritual realm and that people (not just mediums) can connect to it. This is what I seek to do in my own practice, communicate with spiritual entities of various kinds.

While I believe that a number of mediums have a genuine ability to communicate with spirits, I accept that some are frauds/con artists and some believe they have an ability but have deluded themselves. However, the blanket dismissal of all mediums as deliberate frauds and con artists is very unjust, in my opinion. Since I am a part of occult and alternative spirituality circles, I have come across a number of mediums and other types of spirit communicators. Many of these people are sincere in their confidence that they have this ability - they are not setting out to scam anyone, but are behaving in good faith and wishing to help/assist other members of their community. Being a con artist equates to intentional, knowing deception. Spirit workers who really believe in what they're doing are not con artists, even if their belief in their abilities is mistaken.

Mrsbloggz · 11/02/2025 13:07

I like to think there is👻

Brenzett · 11/02/2025 13:08

YES

NovemberMorn · 11/02/2025 13:09

Simp;y put....I don't know.

HoldingTheDoor · 11/02/2025 13:10

No it’s all utter nonsense and harmful nonsense at that. Once you’re dead that’s the end and you know no more.

CherryPopShowerGel · 11/02/2025 13:15

They are absolutely charlatans, and I don't believe for a second there's another realm or about any afterlife.

Tbf people that go to them are making that choice, and it's no different imo to religion promising an afterlife if you do all the right things/pray/attend church etc. so I have no issue with them offering that service.

MedusaAndHerFavourites · 11/02/2025 13:19

I don't know.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 11/02/2025 13:21

Religion, spirituality, faith, belief in the afterlife all give us comfort and hope.

But it's all nonsense. It's like multivitamins.

QuestionableMouse · 11/02/2025 13:23

No.

I believe they take advantage of vulnerable people.

Viviennemary · 11/02/2025 13:24

All of them are charlatans preying on grieving people at their most vulnerable.

PrimitivePerson · 11/02/2025 13:31

OohKittens · 11/02/2025 09:35

I do believe that the spirit lives on and walks amongst us. I often feel my dad around me. I go to a spiritualist church and it does bring me comfort.

How much are you paying them?

100A · 11/02/2025 13:31

If anyone on here saw the medium I once saw they would change their minds. Sorry, but you would. The Darren Brown thing has nothing to do with it. His characterisations did not give specific names or events or places, nor allude to particular objects. The one I saw (and I was a sceptic), knew nothing about me apart from my mobile phone number. I can't get into the specifics, but it was definitely more than 'cold reading.' It was specific names of ancestors (not named you could guess, very unusual names) places they had been, objects they had hidden - I didn't even know these things myself until I went away and spoke to relatives who told me. One ancestor 'came through' to apologise for a very specific (and unusual) incident that happened to me when I was a child. There is NO WAY the medium could have known this from just sitting there with me. There is no physical or emotionally visible evidence and it's not something anyone could ever guess or would even think of. None of my friends know. Only about 3 people in the world know and they live in another country and are in their 80s. Nobody was more surprised than me, but there it is.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/02/2025 13:32

I don't believe in mediums talking to the dead. I do, however, think that there might sometimes be a low level telepathic ability which enables them to pick up information from the bereaved and convince themselves that they are getting information from 'the realm beyond', when really they are just picking stuff up, consciously and unconsciously, from the living person in front of them.

I'd like to believe that we continue on in some way- that there's some plane of consciousness beyond this one whereby we can combine with others and exist in some form. However, I think it's highly unlikely.

pushchairprincess · 11/02/2025 13:36

Sorry - but all mediums are con-artists -it's been proven how they do it. A lot of people have made a very good living in talking to the dead.
But if it gives someone comfort, then fine.

Wendolino · 11/02/2025 13:38

I don't believe the ones who charge for it are genuine. I met a medium, friend of a friend, who was a member of a spiritualist church and she was vehemently against profiteering from spiritualism.
I didn't believe any of it until she described a dead relative of mine who she never met, never knew about and neither did the mutual friend. She just kept looking at me and then told me my relative looks after me and was standing behind my right shoulder. She gave a detail that I had completely forgotten about until she mentioned it.

I once went to see a medium with a friend as she didn't want to go alone. As an observer it was obvious she was grasping at any clues my friend gave and was cold reading.

100A · 11/02/2025 13:52

The DB video proved nothing though. He just gives a quite lengthy written 'characterisation' to various people and it's generalised enough that everyone can identify with various things on it. You see it in the video - reactions range from one man thinking it's 40% accurate, to one woman saying it's 95% accurate for her.

This is not the same as being given very specific names and events by a medium - things that nobody else could guess in a million years and you'd forgotten yourself.

For instance, the medium I saw told me that a deceased relative had come through and was talking about a particular (handmade) object with a very distinctive design and colour. She even mentioned it had been slightly damaged. She told me whose house it had been 'lost' in and where. It was not in my house, it was the house of a relative overseas and the medium just named her straight off. It was there - exactly as described and in the place described and the living relative didn't know about this item and would never have found it otherwise.
