Do you believe there's another realm and medium's can tap into it?

I do. I believe the energy of the dead never dies, it is with us but in another realm. Sometimes it comes through to our realm. AIBU?

I am a bit sceptical about medium's though. Interested to hear other people's view on this.

It's a pile of codswallop that preys on vulnerable people.

Funkyslippers · 11/02/2025 09:57

I don't belive in it, no. But I do believe that some 'mediums' are very skilled at what they do. After all, it's their job. For example a friend of mine who'd recently lost her son, didn't even give her proper name when booking a medium, yet she knew lots of specific things about her & her son. However I went to see the same medium & she was so rubbish she didn't charge me! I just don't see how contacting the dead is even possible. Even if spirits exist, they apparently stay in the place they died, so how can they suddenly be next to their loved ones, or in the same room as a medium? It makes no sense

An oldie but a goodie.

No, OP, mediums are opportunists who prey on the vulnerable and/or hard of thinking. The energy of a living body dissipates into the surrounding environment after death.

I think I mangled it a bit 😂

Goldengirl123 · 11/02/2025 10:06

I certainly do believe that we transition to somewhere else. Spirits do exist as I have had 100% proof of this. I have had a couple of good readings from clairvoyants but the majority are rubbish. I’m not saying they are all con artists although some of them are, but some of them think they have the gift when they haven’t. The con artists are the ones that charge loads of money

WifeImprovementWorksInProgress · 11/02/2025 10:09

I'm sorry, but you do not have 100% proof. You have been 100% convinced, that's different. See the list of rewards posted up thread and send your proof to them..?

Julia2016 · 11/02/2025 10:14

The science around energy makes sense to me.

Someone upthread mentioned that the energy dissolves into the surrounding environment but how are we to know that? Why wouldn't the energy remain with the person? I get their body is dead but the soul, the spirit?

Yes I do. I think we are all born with a sixth sense but we forget/push it down to fit in with this physical world where we rationalise everything.

What "proof" do you have?

You’re confusing two things. The ‘soul’ is a religious concept. Consciousness is, to the best of our knowledge, an effect of neural processes in our brains — when our brains die, so does our consciousness. It doesn’t exist outside our bodies, or at least there’s no evidence it does.

When I said energy dissipates into our surroundings when we die, I literally mean the physical processes in our bodies — we stop taking in energy via food and using it to fuel our bodies’ processes. As we decompose, other things feed on us to generate their energy, or, if we’re cremated, we’re transformed into heat/light/ash. Not ‘soul’.

RenoDakota · 11/02/2025 10:36

No, of course not.

Elphame · 11/02/2025 10:49

Physicists are starting to develop theories that allow for parallel and alternative universes so who knows. I know I believe they exist. I like the quantum mechanics model that hints that every choice we make dictates which reality we are in so we are constantly swapping between an infinite number of realities and that they all exist at the same time.

Time was always understood to be an absolute but we now know that is not the case.

Mediums though? Most are fake, some well meaning and some downright charlatans.

What you are talking about is not science. At all.

BobbyBiscuits · 11/02/2025 11:35

Nobody can speak to the dead, the dead are dead. They have nothing more to say. They've gone. Hard as it is to bear that's what happens. You cease to exist. Which isn't that bad really. Just imagine going under an anesthetic but never waking up. It's not boring or painful. You are just no longer there.

Mediums are scum. Ripping off the bereaved and it should be illegal.

blobby10 · 11/02/2025 11:49

It brings me great comfort in this horrible, violent and negative world to believe that the essence of a person, whether its their spirit or their soul or their something doesn't die along with the body - a human being is so complex and made up of so many different aspects and emotions that I don't think they all just die/stop.

I also believe that there are SOME people who can communicate with these spirits but that they are few and far between. If you find a genuine one, they will never take money for what they do but most of the ones doing 'psychic nights' or 'readings' are charlatans or (if I'm being generous) genuinely believe that their cold reading is actually communications from other realms.

Annoyeddd · 11/02/2025 11:50

I think that mediums and fortune tellers can be very skilled in picking up information about their clients. They may do their research and will listen well to what the client says and their needs.
If a client leaves happy in the "knowledge" that their loved one is settled on the other side then they have done a good job or that in the future you will meet Mr Right and settle down in a lovely house with a family.

Magnastorm · 11/02/2025 12:09

There are two types of mediums.

Those who know it's bollocks but are happy keeping up the pretence to exploit people. These people are con artists and fraudsters.

Those who truly think they have abilities. These people are deluded.

This.

Mediums piss me off when they make it their paid job.
Some people however, are oddly prescient from time to time, so I do think that there is more to this existence than the material.

There's no such thing as a soul.

Verv · 11/02/2025 12:23

I think that mediums are 99.99% charlatans reaching 100% if they seek to profit from their "services"
But by the same token, i do think theres another realm. I just dont know if its related to time, energy, or other.

beadystar · 11/02/2025 12:24

I believe that there is more than just us. We know that energy doesn't disappear. There are also people with finely tuned sensitivities who can pick up things like others' emotional states. A heightened version of feeling tension in a room or 'just knowing' that a male is malevolent.

However- imo, 'professional' mediums are charlatans or deluded. I have seen mediums exploit people (usually not the brightest people, sorry) who are going through major bereavements, for money. They can train themselves to be very good at cold readings and saying what people want to hear. I suppose fair if all parties consent and it brings comfort, (cheaper than psychotherapy) but ethically foul. Imagine telling a bereaved spouse you're hearing messages from the beyond, making up some twaddle and then taking cash off them.
Only suitable for fairground amusement.

raspberryberet7 · 11/02/2025 12:26

nope they are scammers and should be arrested profiting from peoples grief and hopes

RareMaker · 11/02/2025 12:27

Yes to realms we don't understand

No to Karen from Barnsley being able to connect to spirit.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 11/02/2025 12:28

Sick of this "energy can't be destroyed" thing being used as justification for completely baseless nonsense.

Nothing about that statement implies that when humans die the "energy" inside them carries on in another form.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 11/02/2025 12:30

It would be nice to think that we go on in some way. We certainly go on in the hearts and minds of others for some time.

I believe some mediums are out and out tricksters, and there are some who believe they have a genuine gift. I just think they are very good at reading people using empathy, instinct, experience, signs, cues and body language rather than messages from the dead.
