What would you think if you saw dogs in their own pram?

I have 3 aging dogs. The maltese is 12, the toy poodle is 11 and the Chihuahua is 14. I inherited them from my grandmother who passed a few years back. I have always loved them but they are absolutely adored by myself and children since we brought them home.

The thing is that toy poodle has always needed carrying after a very short while on walks but the other two have been quite happy to carry on. But the chihuahua is now slowing down. I know they enjoy being out (still get excited when I mention walkies etc). The Maltese can go on for much longer. And it also does me the world of good being out the house. Right now I end up carrying the dogs as and when they get tired. Dh has suggested a stroller but I don’t know why I find the idea really embarrassing. I know I shouldn’t care what people think but I do.

Be honest, what would you think if you saw a woman pushing two dogs in a dog pram/stroller?

I'd think the owner was a good dog owner who was aware of their (aging?) dogs mobility restrictions, and is treating them accordingly, still getting them outside for walks.

Mingenious · 10/02/2025 14:52

I wouldn’t think anything of it other than the dog was old or ill and needed to get out.

Sinkintotheswamp · 10/02/2025 14:53

I would think the dog is very old or post op and needs the fresh air.

Echobelly · 10/02/2025 14:53

I'd assume either old or injured dogs, or if small maybe an owner who needed to walk for longer than a little dog could manage.

I admit I was a bit WTF when I first saw dog buggies about ten years ago but I understand now they do have a purpose.

Sweetleftfood · 10/02/2025 14:55

We have a few in our park, quite obvious why they have the pram! go for it. It's a win win, more agile dog gets a proper walk and the older ones get to go out and see the world.

ShodAndShadySenators · 10/02/2025 14:56

I have seen it before and only thought that probably the dog was unable to manage whole walks and needed a lift some of the way. No judgement, why would you..?

I wonder if the older ladies mentioned above by Onlyonekenobe with prammed dog are also finding a bit of support offered by the pram helpful to them, so win-win?

RitaFromTheRanch · 10/02/2025 14:56

I'd think you were nuts but so what?

rivalsbinge · 10/02/2025 14:57

Oh it makes me thing you care for the dogs! What a collection of dogs and amazing that you took them on..

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 10/02/2025 14:57

In London, it's common in nicer parts 🤭

Do it, why not, dogs deserve to be happy too 🥰

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/02/2025 14:58

That they were old and not able to walk far.

Fintoo · 10/02/2025 14:58

I see that quite a lot. I just think it’s lovely that the dog can still be out and about with its family. And often they look very cute!

PoorLion · 10/02/2025 14:59

Do it!! They, and you sound adorable

SunLift · 10/02/2025 14:59

I think it’s adorable there are a few that take their dogs out in the dog prams near me, and one who takes hers out in an actual child’s buggy. They all look elderly or are the tiny dogs that look like they wouldn’t walk far. Nobody bats an eyelid.

thewreckofthehesperus · 10/02/2025 15:00

Definitely more acceptable these days. I would think you were a very kind and caring dog owner who wanted to make sure their older dogs were getting the best out of life.

MrsAvocet · 10/02/2025 15:02

I seea few people with dogs in prams where I live and just assume the dog is old or injured. I'm sure it's still good for them to get out and about. I enjoyed being pushed in a wheelchair after I had a bad accident a few years ago and couldn't walk for a while so I imagine immobile dogs benefit from being in the fresh air too.

Porridgeislife · 10/02/2025 15:03

I would think there’s a high possibility I’m in an area with a Gail’s on the high street.

SpringleDingle · 10/02/2025 15:04

I'd think what a wonderful dog owner who cares for their lovely older dogs.

AsLivingArrows · 10/02/2025 15:05

I'd think it was adorable

ginasevern · 10/02/2025 15:06

I've seen this fairly often. I've just assumed the dogs were old or infirmed and dearly loved by their owners.

DeerTalker · 10/02/2025 15:07

Go for it - they're so useful. My beautiful girl passed away recently aged 16. For the last year we had a buggy for her. Initially she could walk a bit then go in the buggy, then towards the end she just enjoyed being out and about with us, and the buggy made that possible. We had lots of positive comments from strangers who thought it was lovely we took such good care of her. My son in law however, thought it was hilarious and wouldn't be seen dead anywhere near it!

What would you think if you saw dogs in their own pram?
LoztWorld · 10/02/2025 15:07

I see it all the time and I think nothing of it.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 10/02/2025 15:09

Like most others I would assume the dog had mobility issues and needed help.

MakingPlans2025 · 10/02/2025 15:09

i would think it was cute. it's quite a common site around here, maybe lots of elder doggos. They get a little walk and some fresh air. What's not to like.

Nessastats · 10/02/2025 15:10

I think if a dog is at the point it needs a pushchair then you need to be taking it to the vet to work out why it can't walk. If it's arthritis then there are treatments for that. But id judge the fuck out of someone whose solution for their dog that can't walk is to just get it a pushchair and not bother to seek medical attention for it. The point of walking a dog is for it to be able to sniff. It can't do that from 3 ft in the air. If id treated my dog for arthritis and it still couldn't walk, time to face up to it's quality of life and if it's fair to the dog to keep it going.

LemonPanda · 10/02/2025 15:11

I'd think it was lovely, older dogs getting out and still enjoying life ♥️
