so I'm in no way, shape or form "woo" buuutttt just been sitting on side of my bed texting on my phone and my soundbar for TV (which I've had for 4 years with no issues) just decided to launch itself onto the floor, has hit my foot and cut it, picked it back up thinking how weird 🤷🤷 went back to my phone and a bottle of water, tube of face cream and a lip balm on top of my chest of drawers then launched themselves across the room, pretty freaked out by this point but still being rational in my head, picked phone back up carried on messaging back a friend, looked up to think what I was trying to type and felt a big tap /slap and literally saw my phone fly in the air and land other side of room, trying hard to think rationally but feeling pretty spooked right now
😭there's a rational reason for all this, yes???

I don't know where you live but have you checked your local news to see if there have been any earth tremors in the vicinity or heavy plant building machinery nearby. Only suggesting this as I thought I had been dreaming or hallucinating once when I was woken in the middle of the night, bed jolted me out and onto the floor. No one else noticed and thought I was either drunk or barmy. Following days lunchtime news reported a sizable earth tremor a good way off from my home but said some people in my area may have felt it depending on the geographical terrain their homes were built on.

Just say "stop it I'm trying to relax here!" in a really firm voice. You need your mum voice. They shall leave you alone.

This is interesting, another exorcist talking about demonic attacks

I find that interesting only in the sense that it’s comical.

When I lived in Conwy we had an earthquake- so they definitely happen. However I think ghosts are real too (even though I don’t want to believe it!) According to my mum when I was a child I asked who the old woman was that sat in our ‘story chair’. When asked to describe the woman I described my mum’s nan to a T. I had never met or even saw a picture of her and it was her chair!!
My cousin also had an issue with things unexpectedly moving - bolts coming undone; toys being moved; similar things to what you described. She spoke to a friend who was a spiritualist, she recommended talking to the ghost at telling it that it was scaring her kids and herself …. It worked!!
I totally trust my mum and my cousin, so I have to accept that there must be ‘spirits’ of some kind!

Yes - there is a rational explanation for it and it's nothing 'supernatural' or 'paranormal'. It's just a strange but unexplained event - and you might never get to the bottom of it. It does sound very weird though, and slightly unsettling!

A strange but unexplained event does not sound like a rational explanation to me, if it's unexplained???

A strange event will have a rational explanation but that doesn't mean we know what the explanation is. It's fine to say 'We don't know how that happened.' It's not fine (or rational) to jump to the conclusion that it's something paranormal. People used to explain lightning and eclipses etc by resorting to paranormal causes; we have now discovered the real, rational causes.

CRCGran · 17/02/2025 10:17

I used to work with a guy who was a registered paranormal investigator for many years. He has spent a lot of time in the most supposed haunted buildings in the UK. His findings are that there's always a rational explanation to these things, mostly strong magnetic activity coming from the earth. He's seen doors open and things move along shelves, and heard strange noises, always accompanied by a surge in natural magnetic activity. He was never a sceptic, and would love to have found evidence of a ghost, but never did.

MrsGrimble · 17/02/2025 12:46

I'm a sceptic who once would have loved to find evidence of ghosts, the afterlife etc. In the early 1980s, I spent two years touring spiritualist churches and booking private readings from mediums, trying to find out if a missing relative was alive or dead. None of them could give me any solid information of any kind - they couldn't even give me a name without me telling them. A "psychic artist" even drew a portrait supposedly of my relative, which didn't remotely resemble them, while assuring me that they could see my relative looking over me. Another medium told me that I shouldn't be asking such questions of her because my relative, if dead, would contact me in their own way.
About ten years ago, I discoveredt that my relative had died in 1978 - before I had started consulting mediums. How did I find out? By searching an online database of death certificates.
Yes, I still like to find evidence of truly supernatural acivities. But eyewitness accounts of things "flying" off surfaces (what exactly does that mean - actually flying and if so what distance - or just falling?) that have so many mundane possible causes simply don't convince me.

Burn sage, it's supposed to cleanse the house, x

Starling7 · 17/02/2025 17:29

Who were you messaging? What about? Perhaps someone who has passed over us trying to protect you from someone / something?

Nopedontsweatit · 18/02/2025 02:43

As a teenager, I talked my parents into buying me a Ouija Board.First time I used it was with my best friend during a slumber party. It got weird fast and, afterward, creepy stuff happened. I ended up burning it and didn't have anymore weirdness. My dil was into watching haunted house shows on TV, and weird stuff always went on in their house. She finally stopped doing anything spiritistic and the weirdness stopped too. If u have anything that's been used for contacting the spirit realm, even if u weren't the one using it, u should get rid of it. Don't give it to somebody else, destroy it. Sometimes u can bring something supernatural into ur home unintentionally when u buy an item from a thrift store or yard sale that was used in a supernatural activity. When u bring these things into ur home, it's like u're sending an invitation to the spirit realm. If u have more than one such item, u need to get rid of all of them. I'm sure this all sounds stupid to an atheist, but if u keep having unexplainable things happening in ur home, maybe give it some thought?

You'll laugh on the other side of your face if it happens to you.😨

A friend of mine had a similar experience when a small ornament of a bird launched itself off her mantlepiece and landed on the rug in front of the fire. She was alone at the time watching TV.

It never happened again.

What I notice with ghost stories and potentially supernatural stuff, is that on almost every occasion the person in question is going through some kind of stressful change in life even when they are feeling no obvious stress symptoms day to day.

There is often a bereavement or someone is very ill, they have just moved in somewhere, they have started university, there has been a marriage break-up, there is a teenager going through adolescence, or they are having problems in their job or career.

I guess a believer would say there are spirits trying to help or show you something in a difficult situation. A sceptic (and I fall on that side of the fence in spite of what I've seen myself) would say it is all coming from our own minds.

Isn't that one of the theories for poltergeist activity? That it's caused by strong emotions/puberty/possibly menopause and it's manifesting into you moving things around without realising you're doing it?
