Ainu to think Angela Rayners has been set up to fail on her 1.5m homes target ?
you can barely get planning permission through for a small extension in under 10 weeks let alone 1.5 m new homes
Every month that goes by the shortage compounds
I wonder if Kier has set her up to fail

mowmiaow · 09/02/2025 22:13

Reform are utter twats hellbent on impoverishing the middle and working classes and giving it all in backhanders to their billionaire mates, all the while being propped up by Putin and Musk.

Anyone who can't see through this needs a serious talking to.

Farage already ruined us with Brexit. Let's not let him fuck us over even more.

Disgusted by the far right propaganda on MN the last couple of weeks. Putin has his bots out in force at the moment.

It was never going to happen. I work very closely with social housing providers, they are very keen to build more homes but they simply don’t have the funds to build that many. There has been no increase in grant funding, all their cash is going on remediation works to their existing stock - cladding, damp and ESG targets. They’ve also been absolutely floored by increases to NI and NMW. Most of them have reduced their development plans. There are also simply not enough construction workers.

@LostittoBostik I don’t care when anyone is educated but when you hear the chippiness coming off the front bench it’s pretty obvious that they do. Phillipson and Reeves both felt less than at Oxford hence where this bile comes from Rayner was pregnant left school at 15 is now a grandmother at 41 is this really a good look for the front bench. Lammy thinking a man can grow a cervix Starmer gas lighting all the rioters it’s a bloody mess

If you think we don't need someone who desperately needed state intervention in her childhood, who has worked in the most crucial public service at risk of collapse (social care), who has brought up a disabled child, who like many in this country experienced being a young mum and a young grandmother, has been a social housing tenant and an adult in the cabinet to help make decisions about these crucial issues of health, wellbeing, economic growth and social mobility .... well, i dont know what to tell you.

Other than that whether it's "a good look" is totally irrelevant

The problem that so many posters on this thread have with labour's education policy is that they know if we have restoration of social mobility it means it goes in both ways

I'm being manipulated? I don't have TikTok, X or Facebook accounts and don't read any news outlets apart from FT, BBC and Sky. And Guardian occasionally when it goes to my newsfeed. If you check my posting history I've been absolutely consistent in my views.
And you know what - it is democracy for you. To be able to express views which aren't necessarily aligned with ruling party or even majority. And my views are absolutely based on facts and evidences. And some very basic understanding of economics and finances.

I don’t think you’re being manipulated 😂.

Before plunging into threads with clickbaity titles and themes, I’d just recommend people advanced search the usernames of the OP and make a judgement based on the kinds of threads they are on/ have started.

I used to really love Mumsnet, not because it was an echo chamber amplifying my own views but because it was a load of intelligent women to chat to.

It feels much less like that kind of a place now, although thankfully you can still find good convo on some threads. I’ll not be going near politics, news, chat, or AIBU from now on - it’s low value stuff by and large now.

No, it's because they have screwed over children with SEN, introduced a damaging policy mid year, and managed to make elite private schools even more elite, whilst enabling them to claim VAT back.
Politics of envy at its finest.

LostittoBostik
the cabinet is 98 per cent state educated?

Anneliese Dodds, Keir Starmer and John Healey attended private secondary schools and/or private sixth forms, Hilary Benn and Lisa Nandy attended private prep schools and David Lammy's state boarding school fees were funded by an ILEA scholarship.

Louise Haigh also attended a private secondary school.

Louise haigh isn't in the cabinet.

Starmer's school was state and converted to independent while he was there in his last year, and as an existing pupil he didn't pay fees - I don't think that counts, but feel free to disagree

Healey went to a private sixth form but sat his O levels at state.

Either ways it's the smallest proportion of privately educated cabinet members in our history.

LostittoBostik · 09/02/2025 22:25

David Lammy went to a state boarding school, as you say. Some people might not know these exist. Most of these have been closed down, which I personally disagree with. Their outcomes far exceed the general expectations for care experienced children.

@Parsley1234 He may have been informed that AR had been referred to Prevent and some of the materials they found, but this horrendous, heinous crime wasn’t classified as a terrorist attack influenced by a specific ideology. There were a lot of inaccurate rumours circulating on social media (and being shamefully exploited by Farage and the like). Emotions and anger were understandably high, but for Southport police and town to be attacked by rioters, in the days that followed is indefensible. Nobody owes those rioters anything. These constant demands for the public to know everything immediately and immediate justice to be taken without full facts and legal due process is unhelpful and dangerous. One of the victim’s parents have openly spoken about how much they valued Starmer visiting them in the days after the crime (without media coverage) and promising them justice - I think any decent person will factor that into their opinion.

Well said! On a similar note, let's also not forget how the Tories dealt with Grenfell fall out - Teresa May famously refusing to meet survivors. The sheer callousness.

LostittoBostik · 09/02/2025 22:30

@TheNuthatch Nobody on this thread slagging off Bridget Phillipson is doing so because of the SEN crisis. Would that were a single mother knee deep in real life policy implications talking about it and being heard!!!

"Angela from Housing"?! It's just a bunch of Reform and CPHQ interns jacking off over their future expenses accounts.

What does that actually mean? What are you saying? Because they all ended up at the same universities mostly.

So are you saying that the wealthiest deserve to be parachuted into government by birth right because they're just... better at it?

And based on what metrics compared to this last government?

Most state boarding schools are now just for middle class, Home Counties kids. They pay roughly same fees as independent day schools.

Excellent point.

Musk's links with Putin in the last couple of years aren't new news. Putin's intervention in Brexit vote isn't new news. I'm convinced Putin supports Farage as well.

The problem with the last statement about right propaganda - who was the strongest opposition to Putin in entire Europe? BoJo. Then Truss. What's happened with both? Labour aren't anti Putin at all, they make right noises but do nothing, so in a way Labour win is good for him.

For avoidance of doubt - I'm utterly terrified of Reform. And this in one of the reasons why I despise Labour, because they pave the way.

LostittoBostik · 09/02/2025 22:36

@twistyizzy yeah because all the state funding was withdrawn from them. Shame. Good idea; better than most care for teens - especially with so many kids in dysfunctional privately run children's homes ending up involved in things like county lines

JimHalpertsWife · 09/02/2025 12:20

Also, she isn't "Angela from Housing" - she's the deputy PM and calling her that nickname is quite misogynistic.

I think it is quite polite. You should have a certain level of education or experience to do the job she’s doing. It’s terrifying that you think it’s ok for her to just crack on with it. She has no idea what she is doing. None of them do. I think that is glaringly obvious b the complete and utter mess they are making.

CheeseyOnionPie · 09/02/2025 22:41

The difference is that those nicknames are all based on specific scenarios or incidents or quotes involving those people, whereas “Rachel from Accounts” and “Angela from Housing” aren’t referencing anything specific they have done / said, but are just names to belittle their positions and make them seem like little women that are being humoured.

LostittoBostik · 09/02/2025 22:41

@twistyizzy Yeah, and they're not using misogynistic insulting names for the education secretary like "from the bloc"

For fucks sake.

This thread is RW propaganda and classist with it.

Putin, Aaron Banks (so sue me), Farage, Trump..... all here on mumsnet and not one of them creating a world that will do anything other than impoverish women's lives and life chances.

Fucking depressing. I'm going to get a glass of wine.

nearlylovemyusername · 09/02/2025 22:44

Ah the old "right wing" accusations for anyone who doesn't agree with Labour. Well guess what, that's a huge % of the electorate at the moment and to keep calling anyone who opposes you "RW" is to push them towards Reform. Each time Labour obfuscate, lie, throw out RW accusations etc then the more they ensure Reform victory. They had a huge opportunity and have quite frankly fucked up.
