To say that Craig David is the best vocalist in the UK?

Saw CD in Milton Keynes last night and his voice was of incredible - of angelic perfection. It was incredible to hear him live. I read today that Elton John said in 2013 that he thought CD had the best voice in the UK.

Just can't stop thinking about how good CD sounded last night!

What happened to that 'comedian'? Probably on universal credit now. Was one of the unfunniest people I've ever seen.

Leigh Francis is still knocking around.

What's wrong with being on universal credit?

I'm on it and I'm fucking hilarious 🤣

Blisssful10 · 09/02/2025 12:38

Universal credit because he can't get a job in comedy because he isn't funny.

I've seen him.and was surprised at how good he is.

Haven't you got some batch cooking to do babe? No one is making you hang around on this thread lols.

😂

Nah, I'm good ta. I'm happy staying on here. It's funny and entertaining. It's making me LOL that someone is so obsessed with Craig David. Do you tell people about this obsession in real life? (I wouldn't!) 😬

BatchCookBabe · 09/02/2025 13:02

SallyWD · 09/02/2025 10:22

I think he's very talented but it's a bit of a stretch to say he's the best vocalist in the UK. I'm sure others are equally good.
I know what it's like when you see a performer live and you feel like "Wow, they are AMAZING!!" But it doesn't mean they're the best.

OP is entitled to think Craig David is the best singer/artist in the world.

She is NOT entitled to demand that everyone else agrees, and state that anyone who doesn't agree is 'wrong.'

It's also quite hilarious that she is almost wetting herself with excitement when someone agrees with her slightly. 😂

This is the thread that keep on giving! 😆

In a world in which Bruce Dickinson also exists, yes, you are either unreasonable or deaf.

ElizaGolightly · 09/02/2025 13:07

I mean...Bryn Terfel, Tom Jones...so many to choose from who are better than Craig David.

Bob The Builder, Mr Blobby, Jasper Carrot, Billy Connolly, Benny Hill, The Teletubbies. LOADS who are better than Craig David! 😂

You sure he was actually singing live and not voice synthesised or prerecorded?

When I was younger I used to go and see Top of the Pops live filming regularly and a lot of the stars mimed and didn't sing live.

CD is a total womaniser. I used to love him but went off him after a documentary when he was living in LA.

grooveraidiator · 09/02/2025 13:34

Not my favourite but I do enjoy his music and saw him live at a corporate event. he was excellent and seemed lovely.

A load of grumpy people!!!!
let op enthuse about CD.

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2025 13:37

Oh op I'm glad you had a great time. Your ott gushing is probably the adrenaline and sheer joy at a good night out. Of course he's not the best singer in the country. But you loved your night out and he put on a good show. Fantastic for live music that people are still so blown away by it.

I've seen a lot of live music over the last 30yrs at gigs and festivals, some exceptional performers. Probably the best live performance simply for vocals, accuracy, range and stamina was Imelda May. I went in with no expectations. I do think the most exceptional singers I've seen however, have been in the West End.

Blisssful10 · 09/02/2025 13:38

Lols I'm loving the music snobbery on this thread! 😄

Years back when Bo selecta I didn't find the Mel b and CD funny. Both have said they were really hurt by it.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 09/02/2025 13:39

I'm very much not a CD fan, I don't really like garage or r&b. I mostly listen to alt country and 90s rap 😬
I saw CD at a corporate gig about 8 years ago and honestly he was brilliant. Completely owned the stage, had everyone dancing (and it was an extremely diverse audience, not an audience of fans) and was great with the crowd. He was milling around the venue throughout the evening before he performed and was charming and funny, happy to have his photo taken by endless amounts of people.
Since then I've had a real soft spot for him, and would happily go and see him again despite not knowing much of his music.

I’m with you OP. I think CD is brilliant. As someone who also grew up in Southampton in the 1980s I was thrilled when he put the city ‘On The Map’. Nice to be known for something other than where the Titanic sailed from and our sh*t football team for a while! 😆

SophieStrange · 09/02/2025 14:03

MasterBeth · 09/02/2025 10:56

It never ceases to amaze me what different people consider as "the best", which is why any concept of "the best vocalist" is just ludicrous.

There is only ever "my favourite" or "to my taste."

Craig David and Florence Welch! The best vocalists!?!?!

You’re right that ‘best vocalist’ is a daft question, I guess for the purposes of an already-daft thread then technical qualities like range and timbre, the sorts of things you’d look for if you were auditioning someone for your pub band, are the least silly metrics. Least silly is still silly, of course.

(And though I couldn’t comment on Craig David’s voice live, on record he sounds like an advert for ProTools’ compress and level functions.)

Ooh. Very bitter.

I bet you don't think Mrs. Brown's Boys is funny, either.

And of course more brilliance from Southampton with Sunak!!

Wow some really unnecessary replies going on.. yes it’s a brave statement to say CD is the best in the uk but sometimes you just have the best experience, it’s like you’re on a high after a concert, so maybe OP just wanted to express that and chat about it! I know I’ve done the same after seeing my favourite artists (CD included lol). Most of my faves (Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Joe - all incredible live) are American so for me Craig David is absolutely the uk’s best voice in terms of that genre.

I’m enjoying the balanced replies where people are mentioning artists that feel the same for them - may be a totally different genre but ultimately it’s that same rush when you hear them sing live!

One performance I loved was when he sang “unbelievable” at Westminster abbey for the commonwealth service.. it was so good and it sticks in my mind as one of the last “normal” performances /occasions before the Covid lockdown which kicked in days later. Unfortunately I can’t find a link to it 😭

Thank you that's lovely. I will try and find that link and the dan bastille duet someone mentioned upthread.

It's funny that Elton John's statement about CD being the best singer in the UK has wound up so many people!

I would agree with YOU that CD is the best singer from his genre in the UK at the very least.

Of course everyone has their own opinions about this!
