Is the point of democracy not to have popular support?

Your statement suggested that we rid ourselves of democracy for the sake of (as you call it) a "strong leader" like "genghis khan".

Complete fascist nonsense.

I suggest you might find it helpful to go read some history books.

This is what you wrote:

"What is requiered, however, are leaders with the unwavering resolve of Genghis Khan, who shaped and ruled empires with an iron will, not weak-willed figures akin to Walter Mitty.

the main pickle and issue lies with the public, whose influence forces the prime minster or president to cater to popular opinion in order to secure election. But how does this serve the nation?"

Basically you've just slagged off democracy and said we need dangerous despots in charge akin to Genghis Khan (!) instead?

You are either deluded, spreading propaganda or being deliberately obtutse.

As I said before it would be helpful if you read a few history books.

The Brexit people voted for was to cut migration, this is not the Brexit that was delivered. Who thinks it is?

It's a good example of populism to say "We want to cut migration and Brexit will do it!" and not be aware of all the other things you lose through voting for Brexit. And also not to realise that the thing you're voting for maybe even can't deliver the thing you want (As brexit has in some ways led to more migration). One characteristic of populist policies is that they are overly simplistic solutions proposed to complex problems, so are unlikely to work.

Populism is shit, because it leads to fascism. You know the kind you are promoting on here? With your "iron rule" Genghis Khan, people's will is bad bullshit?

ramowwo · 11/02/2025 22:55

@CdcRuben I don't think you understand populism TBH.

I can't talk to you any more. You really just don't get it. perhaps try to understand and learn and read a few books.

...And the "strong leader", authoritarian, us vs them, tends to also over simplify. Strangely, there are no "strong leaders" for middle of the road social democracy, the kind with some planetary boundaries considered, the kind that helps us benefit from capitalism but puts in place institutions to rein in its excesses. Because the truth of what we need is nuanced. It is never as simple as a single, big, hate-fuelled rallying cry off "everything is someone else's fault" which is the chant of the populist.

It is not good. It is shit. It leads to fascism. But arguing with you who suggested we need iron rule leaders like your pal Genghis is pointless.

I'm truly wondering about your cognition here.

Goodbye!

I can't debate further with someone who suggested we need "leaders of Iron will like Genghis Khan" FFS.
