In that, if it's uniform with no name on - goes to the PTA second hand uniform sale.

Bottles/bags/coats/anything else - all taken to charity shop every Friday.

If it has your name in, we will if course hold on to it...but only until half term. Then it's fair game.

I am in the office and have had enough of "have you seen Johnny's jumper?" And when asked if labelled it's 99% "no". Yes, love I've seen his jumper, it's so very different to the 450 others...

OK. I had hoped you would realise how unwise this thread is and stop posting so it didn't have to be addressed at work.

I promise, it's absolutely fine. It won't get addressed at work.

Because there's nothing... Literally nothing.

I am not unprofessional enough to get into a spat on MN.

However, I will speak to the head at school.

Ok, you do that.

You're wasting your time.

And I shall wait for the HT to come and see me.... I won't hold my breath.

Recently my kids primary got the P7s to check every item of lost property for names.
And everything else was sorted into sizes.
Then they told parents say what your missing, ie red cardi age 6-7
We'll get you a red.cardi 6-7 can't guarantee it's your child's red cardi but at least it's a red cardi.

Itisbetter · 06/02/2025 16:11

I think it’s sad that nobody seems at all interested in what would be most beneficial for the children. English primary schools are baffling to me. Do the children really never get taught how to manage their own belongings? Do they not fill their own water bottles etc?

Nchanged89 · 06/02/2025 16:12

What details are identifying then?

Lovelysummerdays · 06/02/2025 16:14

At ours list property is left in a room by the entrance. Parents and children welcome to rummage. Termly it’s washed and put out at a table to take for free or bc swap with smaller stuff. Charity shops would hate the pile of used water bottles. Who would buy them?

So have you just identified yourself as OPs boss seeing as you will be speaking to her soon, or do TAs at this school conduct disciplinary meetings?

Well, I'm confident I don't know you, OP, so whilst waiting for my bolognese to simmer I did an advanced search on you Grin

All I can glean from it is that you had (at some point) a 6yp nephew, last week you ate a soup made from a Sunday Roast leftovers, and you pronounce it Krispy KrEM.

If that poster genuinely thinks she knows you, based on the above alone, then she's in the wrong industry and needs to join MI5.

Weekly is too often. We would be able to go in at the end of half term and it would be in the hall, but the box was always available in reception.

I found several of our items in the lost property box that were named, mine and other people's. It drove me mad that these items were picked up on the playground or wherever and no one bothered to check, but they'd still lecture us about naming everything!

I like the PP who suggested a two week box option. 👍👍

I think the only thing you're going to see when you arrange a meeting with your Head Teacher to talk about a post you saw on Mumsnet about lost jumpers and water bottles, is them slightly tilt their head to one side, while the eyebrows raise and they take a second to wonder what the fuck you're on about this time, and why they didn't choose a different career.

TickingAlongNicely · 06/02/2025 16:50

I can imagine the scene

"Staff member, I've heard you been posting on a public forum"
"Wasn't me" (even if it was)
"Yes, there is actually no evidence it was you. Its not like this is the only school in the country with a lost property box"

HamandCheeseSandwich · 06/02/2025 16:58

I will all post the very anti-climatic update tomorrow letting you all know that indeed IncaDove has got it wrong, and I hope she doesn't actually waste the HT time and possibly upset her innocent colleague.

I shall be updating from the break room in the supermarket I work at on a Friday.

Bottles/bags/coats/anything else - all taken to charity shop every Friday.

I massively disagree with the regularity of this. Sometimes it can take more than a week to realise that the new coat/bottle etc that has gone missing, isn't in the car like you assumed and is in fact, at school. Your DC promised they'd put their name on it but clearly not with the right pen because it's come off.
Or, they lose their bottle/other item the day before they get very sick and need 4 days off school.
A week isn't long enough to find and remember to or find the time to come in and retrieve it.

Yes, everything should be named etc. Obviously but occasionally some things naturally slip through the net. Such is life.

I’ve seen some petty things on MN but this is a shambles 😂

”I’ll speak to the head”. Don’t be a grass. And don’t run the risk of making yourself out to look mentally unstable, reporting posters on MN to your boss.
