Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

He’s dire for the world. But here’s hoping he settles down a bit and just ruins his own country rather than everyone else’s .

We can only hope.

Putin must be really enjoying watching all this chaos.

Do you think those who support Trump, Musk (or the Reform Party in the UK) know that they’re playing into Putin’s hands? Perhaps some of them are also fans of Putin, who knows?

You can imagine Putin and his fans thinking if Trump can claim Gaza in the middle east and Greenland on the other side, then Putin wanting Ukraine right next door, doesn't sound as bad.

Cerial · 07/02/2025 15:47

There is no point trying compare health systems unless you have fully participated in both.
There’s a lot to hate in both systems.

DdraigGoch · 07/02/2025 15:48

"Losing"? It's past that. Its credibility was long-since lost.

So what’s the alternative- that they all live on a building site? Are you ok with children living amongst rubble with no sewerage system/running water/shops? What are you wanting to happen to all those people? Maybe moving people out will also break up Hamas who caused all this in the first place - because until Hamas are got rid of the people of Gaza are always going to be under threat..

I am not ok with ethnic cleansing.

I cannot believe that’s a thing I have to state in 2025.

Of course he is. He paid RW influencers to get it.

But this is trump’s MO. He’s been very open about how he negotiates. He is a hard negotiator.

he goes in with an extreme demand. He knows he won’t get it. Greenland/Canada/Gaza- whatever it is. They sound stupid and crazy but he does it to destabilise those he is negotiating with. The craziness puts people on edge - they don’t know what he will do.

clearly then the negotiations start happening and Trump concedes ground and somewhere he gets hopefully what he wants. For instance, I don’t think for a minute Trump expected to buy Greenland. But he wants the key artic influence. He’ll end up with extra influence in the area.

the key to Trump is not his first grandstanding demand. Look at what he really wants…

Hopefully he won't end up with more influence. What it will do it strengthen Europe and make sure they spend more on defence. Trump doesn't have a plan, as was patently demonstrated when his own inner circle said they didn't know that he was planning on taking over Gaza. He's an idiot who shoots from the hip.

I guess you're the kind of poster who believes that crap about the "weave"....

It's amongst the long list of things we once considered crazy/madness, that are now becoming a scary reality.

Apart from the dubious safety record of Musk products he's the sort of person whobwould calculate whether it was worth 2 million extra dollars to save 100 lives.

A lot of people are going to die because of Trump, whether through air safety, pretending infectious diseases don't exist, destruction of law enforcement....

Gymnopedie · 05/02/2025 19:29

What I really fear is that Musk is being set up to be the next President. Either by himself or by Trump, by him having an inside track to government. And if he manages not to completely crash America I can see the Republicans might well go for it. Trump has been a winner for them, Musk would be Trump mk2.

Musk is a very very dangerous loose canon. He could (you wouldn't think it was possible) be worse than the Orange One.

Musk can't be president. You have to be born in America to be president. So you can stop worrying about that anyway 🙂

Chickensilkie · 07/02/2025 22:02

@StandFirm agree but what is the soft power everyone hates the USA esp Muslim countries

Apologies if mentioned but apprently he wants to put pressure on Arab counties to sort out gaza

Maybe so, but he can still be Rod Hull with Trump as Emu.

I notice the 'Trump will be good for America' comments have dried up.

Yep. He is a disaster, and this American expat finds it so very painful to see.

He isn’t an idiot though. Watch the behind the scenes footage of the election. He has a team of people around him. All his tweets are agreed upon and typed by his team- They plan all his big announcements - it is all heavily strategised ahead of time . Trump wants American businesses to be heavily involved in the rebuilding of Gaza. There is no way on earth he thought that America would take control but being first in the door for the investment - that is what he wants. And I’ll bet anything he’ll get it. Helping put his name to peace in the area I am sure he’ll take that too but the investment opportunities first. I admire his stance to put his country above all others. I wish our politicians would do the same.

Robert De Niro’s statement on Trump is so very true

“I’ve spent a lot of time studying bad men. I’ve examined their characteristics, their mannerisms, the utter banality of their cruelty. Yet there’s something different about Donald Trump.

When I look at him, I don’t see a bad man. Truly.

I see an evil one.

Over the years, I’ve met gangsters here and there. This guy tries to be one, but he can’t quite pull it off. There’s such a thing as “honor among thieves.”

Yes, even criminals usually have a sense of right and wrong. Whether they do the right thing or not is a different story — but — they have a moral code, however warped.

Donald Trump does not. He’s a wannabe tough guy with no morals or ethics. No sense of right or wrong. No regard for anyone but himself — not the people he was supposed to lead and protect, not the people he does business with, not the people who follow him, blindly and loyally, not even the people who consider themselves his “friends.”

He has contempt for all of them.

We New Yorkers got to know him over the years that he poisoned the atmosphere and littered our city with monuments to his ego. We knew first hand that this was someone who should never be considered for leadership.

We tried to warn the world in 2016.

The repercussions of his turbulent presidency divided America and rattled New York City beyond imagination. Remember how we were jolted by crisis in early 2020, as a virus swept the world. We lived with Donald Trump’s bombastic behavior every day on the national stage, and we suffered as we saw our neighbors piling up in body bags.

The man who was supposed to protect this country put it in peril, because of his recklessness and impulsiveness. It was like an abusive father ruling the family by fear and violent behavior. That was the consequence of New York’s warning getting ignored. Next time, we know it will be worse.

Make no mistake: the twice-impeached, 4-time indicted Donald Trump is still a fool. But we can’t let our fellow Americans write him off like one. Evil thrives in the shadow of dismissive mockery, which is why we must take the danger of Donald Trump very seriously.

So today we issue another warning. From this place where Abraham Lincoln spoke — right here in the beating heart of New York — to the rest of America:

This is our last chance.

Democracy won’t survive the return of a wannabe dictator.

And it won’t overcome evil if we are divided.

So what do we do about it? I know I’m preaching to the choir here. What we’re doing today is valuable, but we have to take today into tomorrow – take it outside these walls.

We have to reach out to the half of our country who have ignored the hazards of Trump and, for whatever reason, support elevating him back into the White House. They’re not stupid, and we must not condemn them for making a stupid choice. Our future doesn’t just depend on us. It depends on them.

Let’s reach out to Trump’s followers with respect.

Let’s not talk about “democracy.” “Democracy” may be our holy grail, but to others it is just a word, a concept, and in their embrace of Trump, they’ve already turned their backs on it.

Let’s talk about right and wrong. Let’s talk about humanity.

Let’s talk about kindness. Security for our world. Safety for our families. Decency.

Let’s welcome them back.

We won’t get them all, but we can get enough to end the nightmare of Trump, and fulfill the mission of this “Stop Trump Summit.””

I hope those thinking of voting Reform realise that Farage worships Trump and clearly thinks he is a great leader! So scary.

Those thinking of voting Reform are as much a part of the MAGA cult as Trump voters.

@StoneofDestiny beautiful is that all Rob, the quote marks are hard to follow.

Does the UK let in convicted felons?

I would imagine so, yes.

Another question could be whether the US allows immigrants from the UK who lie in their visa applications to stay in the country.... could be interesting!

What are people's thoughts on this post by Palestinian peace activist Bassem Eid?

It's his opinion. Tbh I would be surprised if it was shared by many Palestinians. I would think most would prefer to stay at home.

Watching Trump addressing a Republican dinner.

Today's message is:

Two breakfasts bad.

Americans have different grammar rules on punctuation than the British. I’d imagine @StoneofDestiny cut and pasted it, for which I give thanks. I decided to concentrate on the message rather than the use of punctuation.
